Detroit Tigers first baseman Renato Nunez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in the team's 7-4 loss to the Cleveland Indians on Friday. The Tigers selected his contract on Wednesday and he has made two starts since rejoining the team, homering in both games. Nunez got his first opportunity with the Tigers back in April. He has now played a total of nine games with the team this year and he has four home runs and a .600 slugging percentage over those nine games. However, he's hit just .200, going 7-for-35 with 10 strikeouts.

The Detroit Tigers selected the contract of first baseman Renato Nunez on Wednesday. The move came after the team placed outfielders Akil Baddoo (concussion) and Derek Hill (ribs) on the injured list. Nunez played in seven games for the Tigers in April and he hit two home runs and two doubles while slashing .148/.207/.444. He hit 43 home runs over 203 games with the Baltimore Orioles from 2019 to 2020, so he has some clear power upside. He also slashed .291/.383/.585 with 20 home runs, 64 RBI and 60 runs at Triple-A this year. However, his playing time likely won't be sufficient enough to warrant fantasy appeal and his stay with the team could be brief.

DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Tigers have agreed to minor league deals with infielders Renato Nunez and Greg Garcia. The Tigers said Wednesday both players will receive invites to major league spring training. Nunez hit 31 home runs for Baltimore in 2019, then batted .256 with 12 homers in the shortened 2020 season. The 26-year-old Nunez was released by the Orioles after last season. Garcia hit .200 in 35 games last year for San Diego.
