OF Carlos Quentin was reassigned to the Twins' minor league camp on Saturday. However, on Monday, he requested and was granted his release. Twins GM Terry Ryan said Quentin is likely to retire.Quentin, 33, had retired in May after playing five games for the Mariners' Triple-A Tacoma team, citing his ailing knees. In his comeback attempt this spring with the Twins he hit .250 with a .333 on-base percentage and .500 slugging percentage. He lost the backup outfielder spot to Oswaldo Arcia.
Fri May 1 201521:26Quentin officially announced retirement Friday
Quentin officially announced his retirement Friday, MLB.com reports.
"Over the past several days, it became clear to me that my injuries have taken too great of a physical toll for me to be able to perform at the level I expect from myself," Quentin said in a press release. Knee issues plagued the final couple years of Quentin's career, limiting him to 82 games in 2013 and 50 in 2014. The two-time All-Star, who compiled a .252/.347/.484 batting line with 154 home runs in 834 games, will be released from his minor league deal with Seattle.
Fri May 1 201514:03Quentin in process of retiring
Quentin is in the process of retiring, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports.
It was a brutally quick fall-off for Quentin, who went from an .855 OPS in 2013 to .599 in 2014 (and both seasons injury-shortened). There clearly wasn't a market for corner outfielders that would have trouble cracking the Mendoza line and reaching even a below-average level on defense, so the 32-year-old could be calling it a career.
Wed Apr 22 201519:54Carlos Quentin: Minor League Deal With M's
Quentin agreed to a minor league contract with the Mariners on Wednesday, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.
The 32-year-old will report to Triple-A Tacoma after being officially released by the Braves last week. Atlanta designated Quentin for assignment on Opening Day after acquiring him from San Diego in the Craig Kimbrel trade. Quentin posted just a .599 OPS last season and comes with a ton of injury risk, but it's possible he could eventually push for a part-time role at first base with the big club.
Thu Apr 16 201510:54Quentin officially released by Braves
Quentin has been officially released by the Braves.
This was inevitable after he was shipped from San Diego in the Craig Kimbrel trade, as a player like Quentin not only doesn't fit in the National League, but he also makes little sense for a rebuilding team like the Braves. Look for an American League team in need of a right-handed power bat to come calling in the coming days. If he can find his way to a situation where he can play on a semi-regular basis at DH, Quentin would be worth a flier in deeper mixed leagues. Those in AL-only leagues should consider grabbing Quentin now, as there is legitimate 20-homer upside in his bat if he's in the right situation.
Mon Apr 6 201508:41The Braves will designate Quentin for assignment
The Braves will designate Quentin for assignment, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
According to Bowman, the team will attempt to trade Quentin to an American League club. It's expected that the Braves will have to eat the $11 million in salary that Quentin is owed for the upcoming season.

Quentin might get designated for assignment by the Braves before reporting to Atlanta, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.
The Padres had been unsuccessfully peddling Quentin before this monster deal, so the swaps of him and Melvin Upton Jr. strike as exchanges of bad contracts. He really needs to land back in the AL so that DH can become an option.
Sun Apr 5 201518:27Carlos Quentin: Traded To Braves
Quentin has been traded to the Braves, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports.
Quentin was involved in a deal that also sent Cameron Maybin, Matt Wisler, Jordan Paroubeck, and the 41st pick in the draft to the Braves in return for Craig Kimbrel and Melvin Upton. With the outfield already set, San Diego had been looking to deal Quentin throughout the spring.
Wed Apr 1 201503:16Quentin appeared in minor league game at first base Tuesday
Quentin appeared in a minor league game at first base Tuesday, theUnion-Tribune reports.
Quentin has seen time at first base for the first time in his career this spring as a way of upping his chances at making the Opening Day roster, which is already loaded in the outfield. The influx of outfield talent leaves Quentin on the fringe of making the 25-man roster. According to the Union-Tribune's report, San Diego's efforts to find an American League trade partner for Quentin have been unsuccessful to this point. The Padres have until Sunday to either move Quentin, release him, or keep him.

Quentin started at first base on Saturday against Arizona and went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Saturday marked Quentin's first career start at first base, a position he has been working at in camp this year. Manager Bud Black has given positive reveiws of Quentin's adjustment to the position, saying, "He's acclimated himself very quickly. He's feeling more comfortable, getting a lot of reps in practice," Corey Brock of MLB.com reports. Black did qualify things by saying that they will have to see how things play out moving forward, however. It looks like Quentin's play has upped his chances at making an opening day roster, with the possibility of a trade factoring into the situation.

Quentin is sporting a .261/.320/.478 slash line with a home run and three RBI through 23 at-bats this spring and has seen time in the outfield and first base.
The project of having Quentin play first may have some traction to it with Bud Black saying that "it's an option moving forward," after Quentin's start at first base last weekend. The Padres have plenty of right-handed power in their current outfield, but Quentin could add some much-needed power from the infield. Quentin is also healthy this spring after failing to appear in 100 games in any of his first three seasons with the Padres.

Quentin hit his first home run of spring training Tuesday and also saw time at first base for the first time in his career.
The rumors of Quentin spending time at first this spring have now become a reality as the Padres' crowded outfield situation and Quentin's injury history have limited his chances of seeing time in the outfield. Manager Bud Black is encouraged by Quentin's performance this spring, saying, "We're happy that he's healthy, he's going through ballgames. That's the first time it's happened in three springs that he's been here," in a Union-Tribune report. Quentin's role with the team moving forward remains uncertain, but he is off to a good start in his new gig at first.
Tue Feb 24 201513:00Quentin (knee) will work out at first base this spring
Quentin (knee) will work out at first base this spring, Jon Morosi of FOX Sports reports.
Although Quentin has no experience at first base, it makes sense for the Padres to give him a look there, as the veteran is on his last legs as an outfielder. Long considered injury prone, Quentin hasn't reached 400 at-bats since 2011, and he no longer has a starting job in the San Diego outfield. Barring a trade to the American League, he'll likely be limited to a bench role, if his health even allows that.
Mon Sep 1 201414:47Quentin (knee) transferred to 60-day DL on Monday
Quentin (knee) was transferred to the 60-day DL on Monday, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Manager Bud Black acknowledged last week that Quentin likely wouldn't make hit back this season, but his move to the 60-day DL all but assures that he won't return in 2014. Quentin played in a career-low 50 games this season, hitting a dismal .177/.284/.315 across 155 plate appearances, and it wouldn't be a surprise if the Padres moved on in the offseason.
Tue Aug 26 201410:27Quentin (knee) will likely miss remainder of season
Quentin (knee) will likely miss the remainder of the season, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Quentin hasn't played in a game since July 25, when he exited early with the knee injury. The veteran outfielder has struggled with injuries in the past, and this season is no exception, as Quentin has played in just 50 games for the Padres.
Mon Aug 25 201413:42Quentin received second opinion on left knee
Quentin received a second opinion on his left knee, which confirmed a bone bruise, MLB.com reports. "He's not going to be returning anytime soon," manager Bud Black said. "Rest is prescribed."
Quentin last took the field on July 26 and is no guarantee to do so before the season concludes. His absence should continue until further notice.
Fri Aug 1 201422:19Quentin will get second opinion on left knee injury
Quentin will get a second opinion on his left knee injury.
Quentin has been hampered by injuries this season, and the latest could cost him the remainder of the season. He is getting a second opinion on the injury in hopes of better news, but the team will be in no hurry to rush the veteran back considering they are not in playoff contention.
Sun Jul 27 201420:29Padres place Carlos Quentin on disabled list
Padres placed OF Carlos Quentin on the 15-day disabled list with soreness in his left knee.
Injuries have been the underlying theme throughout Quentin's career, and his tenure in San Diego has been no different. He has appeared in just 50 games this season, slashing .177/.284/.315 with four homers and 18 RBI.

Sun Jul 27 201414:29Carlos Quentin (knee) not in lineup Sunday
Carlos Quentin (knee) is not in the Padres' lineup Sunday.
He was originally back in there after missing a start with a sore knee but wound up being a late scratch. Quentin was able to pinch-hit Saturday and presumably will again be available off the bench.
