LHP Kyle Crockett was recalled Friday from Triple-A Columbus for the second time this season. Crockett, 25, will serve as extra help out of the bullpen. He has a 27.00 ERA in three games covering two-thirds of an inning with Cleveland earlier this season. In the minors, Crockett was 5-5 with four saves and a 3.38 ERA in 51 relief appearances. Lefties hit just .176 off him. Crockett pitched the eighth inning of Friday's second game, giving up a pair of two-out singles but no runs.

LHP Kyle Crockett was recalled Wednesday from Triple-A Columbus where he is 1-0 with a 1.85 ERA in 21 games with eight walks and 16 hits allowed in 24 1/3 innings and 28 strikeouts. Crockett, 25, was drafted out of the University of Virginia in the fourth round in 2013 and pitched in 43 games for the Indians the following year with a 1.80 ERA. But last season, he had a 5.06 ERA for the Indians in 29 games and has spent portions of the 2016 and 2017 seasons with Columbus and Cleveland. Manager Terry Francona said, "It gives us that third lefty (in the bullpen) which we'll always take, plus we get a look at him against major league hitters. But he's worked hard. When he first came out of college, it was, I don't want to say 'easy,' but he was on such a roll that he really didn't get tested until he got sent down and things didn't go real well. So he's worked hard to where he could get back to where he could get back to where he can be that major league pitcher." Crockett was charged with a run after he started the sixth and faced two batters. He struck out pitcher Kyle Freeland and gave up a single to Charlie Blackmon on a grounder that was hit slowly up the middle and made it to the outfield.

Crockett has made seven consecutive scoreless appearances and has held opponents to a .158 batting average during that stretch. "He's making more good pitches," Francona said. "When you don't overpower people, you've got to make your pitches and hit your spots."

Despite of his unsightly numbers (5.97 ERA, 1.87 WHIP in 28.2 innings) at Triple-A Columbus this season, Crockett's left-handedness could be enough to earn him late-inning duties after Marc Rzepczynski was dealt to the Padres prior to the deadline. The soft-tosser should become a fixture in the Tribe's bullpen within the next season or two, but he's unlikely to experience an overwhelming amount of success in the second half.

Crockett has tossed 3.2 scoreless innings with the Indians this season, but he was optioned to Triple-A Columbus when the Indians needed room for starter Cody Anderson. With Nick Hagadone placed o the disabled list Wednesday, he will rejoin the bullpen.

Crockett made two scoreless appearances since being recalled Thursday, but will return to the minors after throwing just 11 pitches in the big leagues. His roster spot was needed to make room for Sunday's starter, Cody Anderson, but look for the Indians to turn his way again down the stretch if in need of another left-handed bullpen arm.
