Indians optioned RHPs Frank Herrmann, Preston Guilmet and Colt Hynes and INF David Adams to Triple-A Columbus.
Herrmann had Tommy John surgery in March 2013 and missed last season. The 29-year-old right-hander owns a 4.26 ERA and 1.33 WHIP over 120 1/3 career major league innings. Guilmet compiled a 1.68 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 72/14 K/BB ratio in 64 1/3 frames at the Triple-A level in 2013 and should be one of manager Terry Francona's first choices if Cleveland needs bullpen reinforcements. Hynes was acquired from the Padres for cash on Halloween day after allowing 17 runs in 17 innings last season with San Diego. The 26-year-old Adams was non-tendered by the Yankees over the winter and quickly latched on with the Indians. The injury-prone utility man hit only .193/.252/.286 across 43 games with the Yankees last season. All four will likely have their shot at the big league roster at some point in 2014.
