Thu Mar 24 201102:42McDyess double-doubles in start at C
Antonio McDyess started at center again for the Spurs and had 13 points, 12 boards and a block in a tough loss at Denver.
With Tim Duncan out it's entirely possible that McDyess, and not Tiago Splitter or DeJuan Blair is the big winner. He's flirted with having fantasy value all year but might finally be there. Keep a close eye on him in the next one and jump on him if he does this again.

Tue Mar 22 201103:54McDyess goes for four and nine on Monday
Antonio McDyess started the Monday's game against the Warriors, but was replaced in the second half by Tiago Splitter at center.
He scored four points on 2-of-4 shooting with nine rebounds and a block, and the only reason we can see Pop moving him from the starting lineup is to tinker with Tim Duncan out for most of the regular season with his ankle injury. Either way, owners in deep formats will want to watch Dice, as he could eek out some value down the stretch with Duncan out.

Tue Mar 15 201100:58Dice flirting with fantasy value as starter
Antonio McDyess is flirting with fantasy value as the starting center for the Spurs, as he scored 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting with five rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block in 28 minutes on Monday.
He double-doubled in his last game with 12 points and 12 boards, and Gregg Popovich appears to be very serious about starting him going forward. If you need a big man, Dice deserves a long look right now.

Sun Mar 13 201101:38McDyess double-doubles with 12 and 12
Antonio McDyess started for the third straight game on Saturday, and double-doubled with 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting with a season-high 12 rebounds and one assist in 22 minutes.
Pop likes him against some of the bigs they will see in the playoffs, and the decision to start him does appear to have a good chance of holding up. This is the first time in a long while that he has posted a usable fantasy game for most formats, so we'd recommend making him do it again before adding him.

Sat Mar 12 201120:27McDyess to start again, Blair to the bench
Antonio McDyess will start again at center for the Spurs, with DeJuan Blair staying on the bench for the third straight game.
"[McDyess] is experienced, a good defender," Gregg Popovich said. "He just matches up well with `four men' [power forwards] on other [potential playoff] teams." This doesn't figure to change the minutes played too much for either player, but coming off the bench isn't making the already risky Blair any safer to use.

Thu Mar 10 201112:31McDyess will start over Blair permanently?
Coach Gregg Popovich said that the decision to start Antonio McDyess over DeJuan Blair Wednesday had nothing to do with McDyess' 1000th career game.
It appears that Popovich, who is looking toward the playoffs, may be ready to roll with McDyess as his starter the rest of the way. "We're just trying to look forward to what matchups are going to be and what we need to do, rotation-wise, so we took a look at it tonight," Popovich said. Blair is averaging just 20.5 minutes over his last five games and is a poor bet for consistent value. McDyess, 36, won't get anywhere near 30 minutes either, turning this situation into a wasteland.

Thu Feb 17 201112:56McDyess says he'll be back next year
Antonio McDyess said he will return for a 15th season in 2011-12.
Just last month, McDyess, 36, said he was leaning toward retirement. But it's hard to walk away from a situation like the Spurs have. "My mind is pretty much made up," McDyess said. "I feel like Iƒ?Tll be able to lace 'em up and go again." He's averaging just 18.1 minutes a game this year, a number that will rise in the playoffs.

Sun Feb 13 201101:17McDyess plays through thumb injury
Antonio McDyess played through a right thumb injury on Saturday and filled the stat sheet, sort of.
He finished with just two points, but added three rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block in the easy win, and played 17 minutes. He doesn't have fantasy value unless you're in a very deep league.
Sat Feb 12 201119:07McDyess to play through thumb injury
Antonio McDyess will play with a wrap on his injured thumb on Saturday.
They might need him without Tiago Splitter available due to his hamstring injury.
Fri Feb 11 201122:34McDyess double-doubles, hurts thumb
Antonio McDyess double-doubled in Friday's game with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting and 11 rebounds, but suffered a jammed right thumb during the game.
X-rays taken were negative and he says that he expects to play in Saturday's game, but we're calling him questionable until we get a better report. If he doesn't play, it will bump up DeJuan Blair's outlook a tad.
Tue Jan 25 201103:42McDyess double-doubles vs. the Warriors
Antonio McDyess double-doubled against the Warriors on Monday, scoring 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting with 10 rebounds, one assist, and no steals or blocks in 24 minutes.
He's much too inconsistent for use in any size league, though results like this may tempt deep leaguers to take a look. The fact is, you just can't count on what Pop is going to do on any given night.
Thu Jan 20 201102:02McDyess plays through sore knee
Antonio McDyess played through a sore knee on Wednesday and had eight points and four boards in 28 minutes.
He's been playing well, but is only worth a look in very deep leagues.
Thu Jan 20 201101:40Antonio McDyess returned to action on Wednesday January 19
Antonio McDyess returned to action on Wednesday January 19.
Wed Jan 19 201110:44McDyess would consider another year
Antonio McDyess, who was expected to retire at the end of this season, said he would considering playing another year in San Antonio.
McDyess would be 37 next season and says he is still leaning toward retirement. But the environment in San Antonio could make him stick around. "It's like heaven, because they ain't trying to kill you," McDyess said. "It would be easy to do another year here." The veteran is coming off the bench for 17 minutes a game this season.

Mon Jan 17 201114:23McDyess tweaks knee but think he's OK
Antonio McDyess tweaked a knee in the first half on Sunday, but doesn't think it is serious.
The veteran PF/C has been providing solid depth for San Antonio but doesn't do nearly enough to be worth owning in average fantasy formats. Consider him probable for Wednesday unless we hear differently.

Sat Jan 15 201100:29McDyess grabs 10 boards for Spus
Antonio McDyess had six points and 10 rebounds in Friday's win over the Mavericks.
Matt Bonner left with a sore knee so McDyess got some run. He's actually played pretty well for a couple weeks, but is only worth a look in deeper leagues.
Fri Dec 17 201011:11McDyess plans to retire this summer
Spurs big man Antonio McDyess intends to retire after the 2010-11 season.
"I've been in it for 16 years," said McDyess. "My body is breaking down. I'm just tired. Enough is enough.'' McDyess has a $5.2 million contract for next year, only half of which is guaranteed, but he's willing to walk away from the money.

Sun Nov 14 201003:32Dice plays just seven minutes vs. Sixers
Antonio McDyess played just seven minutes against the Sixers on Saturday, scoring four points with one rebound and no assists.
The game was a blowout, so the vet got his rest. The worse news for him is the return of Matt Bonner, the ongoing emergence of Tiago Splitter (18 minutes tonight), and the fact that DeJuan Blair may have finally 'got it' with his first double-double tonight.
Mon Nov 8 201022:27Dice goes for seven and five vs. Bobcats
Antonio McDyess scored seven points on 2-of-3 shooting with five rebounds and four blocks in 22 minutes off the bench on Monday.
He double-doubled on Saturday, and there have been rumblings of him possibly moving into the starting lineup for DeJuan Blair, but he is too old and inconsistent for use in most leagues. If he ends up starting we'll be watching him, but for now he belongs on waivers.
Sun Nov 7 201000:49Dice double-doubles against the Rockets
Antonio McDyess double-doubled against the Rockets on Saturday, scoring 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting with 10 rebounds, two assists, and a block in 34 minutes.
It's a good night for the wily vet, but he's much too old and inconsistent for use in fantasy leagues, and Tiago Splitter and Matt Bonner (ankle) should eventually send him back to a minimal role.
