Willis (neck) has decided to retire, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. |
The 33-year-old Willis was hoping to make it back to the majors as a LOOGY, but a neck injury may have dissuaded him. While his peak didn't last long, he'll be best remembered for his first few seasons, highlighted by a 2005 campaign that saw him post a 22-10 record and 2.63 ERA. He was also one of the better batters among major league pitchers, and he'll finish with a career .244/.287/.378 slash line. |

Willis (neck) is improving but might be sent to pitch in minor league games before rejoining the Brewers' bullpen, the Journal Sentinel's Tom Haudricourt reports. |
Willis still has a shot at making it in the Brewers' bullpen out of camp, but his chances will go down if he does not have the opportunity to showcase what he can do in a multitude of appearances with the team this spring. Continue to consider him day-to-day for now. |
Sat Mar 7 2015 | 12:28 | Willis (neck) will not be available Saturday |
Willis (neck) will not be available Saturday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. |
It's uncertain how much time Willis, who's in Brewers camp as a non-roster invitee, may miss as a result of this ailment, but it could hurt his chances of earning a bullpen role if it lingers for a week or more. The 33-year-old Willis threw his last pitch in the major leagues on Sept. 25, 2011. |
Wed Jan 21 2015 | 12:00 | Willis agreed to minor league contract with Brewers on Wednesday... |
Willis agreed to a minor league contract with the Brewers on Wednesday that includes an invite to spring training, Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports. |
Willis hasn't pitched in the major leagues since 2011, and spent most of 2014 playing independent ball with the Bridgeport Bluefish. At age 33, he will likely need a big spring training to nab a roster spot with the Brewers, but the club has few lefties on the pitching staff which may give him an outside shot with a strong performance. |

Willis spent most of last season in independent ball before catching on with the Angels' Triple-A affiliate late in the year. He hasn't appeared in the majors since 2011 and hasn't been effective at the big league level since 2006. Obviously, the 32-year-old is nothing more than a depth add at this point. |

Sat Aug 24 2013 | 00:15 | Dontrelle Willis walks seven in minors start |
Dontrelle Willis struggled mightily in his third start with Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday, surrendering eight runs on five hits and seven walks in just 3 2/3 innings. |
After pitching well in his first two starts, the wheels fell off the D-Train on Friday. Willis also hit a batter and served up a pair of home runs. It's extremely unlikely that he'll contribute at the Major League level again. |

Fri Jan 4 2013 | 21:53 | Cubs sign Dontrelle Willis to minors deal |
Cubs signed LHP Dontrelle Willis to a minor league contract. |
Willis announced his retirement from baseball in July after posting an 8.53 ERA and 2.21 WHIP in four games for the Orioles' Triple-A affiliate. The D-Train hasn't been major league relevant since the 2007 season, but is still only 30 years old. It's a low-risk signing for the Cubs, and if he can regain his control, he could develop into a decent lefty out of the bullpen. |

Mon Jul 2 2012 | 15:30 | Dontrelle Willis, 30, considering retirement |
Dontrelle Willis will not make his next start at Triple-A Norfolk and is considering retirement. |
Willis has posted an ugly 8.53 ERA in four appearances (one start) this season with the O's Triple-A affiliate. The 30-year-old left-hander could probably linger around for a few more years, bouncing from organization to organization. But he's pretty much already done that, and has probably grown tired of the frustrating results. |

Dontrelle Willis allowed four runs on six hits and two walks over just 2 2/3 innings in his first start for Triple-A Norfolk Thursday. |
He did strike out four, but it was an ugly outing for the veteran southpaw. Willis could eventually be an option for the O's rotation if he settles in, but it's certainly a longshot that he'll be a fantasy option this season. |
