Escalona had some sort of involvement in the Miami-based Biogenesis clinic and is now done for the remainder of the 2013 season. The 29-year-old left-hander posted an ugly 6.60 ERA and 2.07 WHIP in 15 innings this summer for the Astros' Double-A affiliate in Corpus Christi. |

"We wanted to give it a day of rest," Astros manager Brad Mills said. "He's still going to go through some things on the other fields. He's not going to throw on the other fields. He'll do some bunting, but no hitting. As of right now, we're not concerned about it because he didn't hurt it while throwing." It sounds like the 'Stros are just being cautious here. Escalona figures to resume throwing before long and should have a bullpen spot locked up after posting a 2.93 ERA in 27 2/3 innings last year. |
