Sun May 3 2015 | 15:10 | Colvin signed minor-league contract with White Sox on Sunday |
Colvin signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Sunday, MLB.com's Scott Merkin reports. |
Colvin has some level of pedigree as a former first-round pick by the Cubs in 2006, but at this stage in his career, the 29-year-old's flaws as a hitter have been too frequently exposed at the MLB level. Over 1,316 career plate appearances in the big leagues, Colvin has produced a .239/.287/.446 batting line while striking out 26.7 percent of the time. Without a 40-man roster spot to hang his hat on, Colvin will have a difficult time reaching the majors again. |

Colvin opted out of his minor league contract with the Marlins and is now a free agent, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports. |
Colvin did not make the Marlins' Opening Day roster and was unlikely to be called up to Miami anytime soon, so he decided to seek another opportunity elsewhere. |
Sat Oct 4 2014 | 13:38 | Colvin has elected free agency |
Colvin has elected free agency, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports. |
Things went downhill quickly for Colvin after a strong month of May (.851 OPS), and he was ultimately designated for assignment in early August. A .239/.287/.446 career hitter at the major league level, Colvin figures to draw some interest as a lefty bench bat, but he'll likely have to settle for another minor league deal. |
Mon Aug 11 2014 | 13:05 | Colvin accepted outright assignment Monday |
Colvin accepted his outright assignment Monday, Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports. |
Colvin will likely head back to Triple-A Fresno rather than electing free agency and looking for work elsewhere. He could find himself back on the Giants' roster in September when they expand, but for now will work on improving at the plate, where he hit just .223/.268/.381 over 57 games with the big-league club this season. |
Fri Aug 1 2014 | 14:39 | Colvin designated for assignment Friday |
Colvin was designated for assignment Friday. |
Colvin was optioned Thursday, but the team decided to remove him from the 40-man roster as well. He will have to decide whether he will accept the assignment or elect to become a free agent and test the waters elsewhere. Colvin joined Dan Uggla as the two Giants designated for assignment Friday, while Matt Duffy and Jarrett Parker will replace them on the active roster. |

Updating a previous report, Colvin was not released, and instead optioned to Triple-A Fresno, Alex Pavlovic of the Bay Area News Group reports. |
Colvin's release was reported earlier Wednesday evening, but it turns out the Giants had one remaining option left. Although the outfielder has been cold lately, there's a chance he could be back with the team when rosters expand in September. |

The Giants released Colvin after Wednesday's 7-5 victory over the Pirates, MLB.com reports. |
Colvin got off to strong start with the Giants, posting a .851 OPS in May, but he's gone just 18-for-89 (.202 average) over the past two months. Desperate for some offense, the team is once against shaking up its roster, bumping not only Colvin but Dan Uggla as well. However, corresponding moves were not immediately announced. |
Wed Jul 30 2014 | 21:53 | OF Colvin released by Giants |
Giants released OF Tyler Colvin. |
Colvin hit a disappointing .223/.268/.381 with the Giants this season. With Brandon Belt's return imminent, the club decided to part ways with the 28-year-old. He'll likely catch on with another club as a bench bat or organizational depth. |

Colvin scored the first run of the game and he added an RBI single in the sixth inning. The 28-year-old also stole his first base of the season. Colvin's playing time may be cut into when Brandon Belt returns in a few weeks, but he should continue to get a few starts per week until then. |

Thu Jun 12 2014 | 19:04 | Tyler Colvin triples, reaches three times |
Tyler Colvin went 2-for-3 with a triple and a walk against the Nationals on Thursday. |
Colvin is known for his power, but he has just one homer in 71 at-bats for the Giants this season. Fortunately, he has contributed nine doubles and two triples, making him a somewhat useful piece as a part-time player with Brandon Belt out. He shouldn't have any fantasy value once Belt returns. |

Fri May 16 2014 | 01:23 | Colvin cracks 2 doubles in Giants victory |
Tyler Colvin finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored in a 6-4 win against the Marlins on Thursday. |
Colvin has blistered the ball in sporadic playing time since his Saturday promotion. He's 6-for-13 (.462) with three doubles, a triple, a homer, three RBI and three runs scored. Colvin is an extremely streaky hitter with direct access to playing time with Mike Morse having shifted to first to cover for Brandon Belt. If he keeps raking, he'll keep playing, and on that chance alone, NL-only owners might want to make a speculation add here. The name Tyler Colvin is radioactive to some fantasy owners, but keep in mind he has a .460 career MLB slugging percentage, has slugged .500 or more in over 350 at-bats twice, and is still only 28. |

Tue May 13 2014 | 01:08 | Colvin triples, homers in leading SFG to win |
Tyler Colvin finished the two easy wheels short of the cycle Monday, going 2-for-3 with a triple and homer in a 4-2 win against the Braves. |
A San Francisco legend is born. Colvin scored two runs and knocked in three. The veteran outfielder is a long-time fantasy bust, but NL-only owners might want to sniff around the streaky hitter with pop. With Mike Morse having shifted to first base to cover the disabled Brandon Belt, left field at-bats are there for the taking. Colvin will have to share those for now. |

Mon Mar 24 2014 | 19:53 | Colvin hits second spring homer vs. Angels |
Tyler Colvin went 2-for-4 with a solo home run as the Giants fell to the Angels 11-4 on Monday. |
Colvin took Kevin Jepsen deep for a solo shot in the eighth inning, his second of the spring. Colvin is battling Juan Perez to be the club's fifth outfielder. CSN Bay Area's Andrew Baggarly suggests the club should choose Perez over Colvin for multiple reasons including Perez's comparatively good spring and defensive prowess, as well as Colvin's lingering back issues. |

Mon Feb 17 2014 | 18:48 | Tyler Colvin could still wind up with Orioles |
Troy Renck of the Denver Post hears that there's a "good chance" Tyler Colvin will still wind up signing with the Orioles. |
The O's and Colvin agreed to terms last month on a major league deal, but it was nixed after the outfielder failed the team's in-depth physical. Baltimore is now only willing to offer him a minor league deal, but it appears Colvin might take it. The 28-year-old is coming off a disastrous 2013 season, but he was terrific in 2012, batting .290/.327/.531 with 18 home runs in 420 at-bats for the Rockies. |

Tue Jan 28 2014 | 10:03 | Colvin sorting through minor league offers |
Tyler Colvin is weighing several minor league offers, according to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal. |
Colvin lost a major league contract with the Orioles after Baltimore's medical staff found something they didn't like during his physical. The outfielder/first baseman enjoyed a nice 2012 season in which he hit .290/.327/.531 with 18 home runs in 420 at-bats, but he struggled to be effective in the majors last season, hitting only .160 with three home runs and 10 RBI while striking out 27 times over 75 at-bats for the Rockies. |

Fri Jan 24 2014 | 16:18 | Orioles won't give Colvin major league deal |
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Orioles are only willing to give Tyler Colvin a minor league contract after discovering a back issue during his physical. |
Colvin has yet to accept the minor league deal, so he remains a free agent. He could wind up still signing with the O's but seems likely to see if he can get a guaranteed deal somewhere else first. Given the thoroughness of Baltimore's physicals, it's possible other teams' doctors won't find anything wrong with Colvin's back. |
