Sat Aug 2415:49Camilo Doval Set To Return To The Major Leagues
San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Camilo Doval is set to return to the major leagues on Saturday, according to Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic. Doval was surprisingly optioned to Triple-A Sacramento earlier in August after posting a poor 8.59 ERA and a 1.91 WHIP in his previous seven 1/3 frames. At Triple-A, the right-hander held a solid 3.18 ERA and a 0.53 WHIP across five 2/3 frames of work. In Doval's absence, Ryan Walker settled in as the closer in the Bay Area by tossing seven frames of one-run ball (zero earned) with a 0.86 WHIP and a 2:16 BB:K ratio. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to who emerges as the top option for saves in San Francisco down the stretch.

Wed Aug 2115:09Camilo Doval Expected To Return For Upcoming Road Trip
San Francisco Giants right-handed reliever Camilo Doval is eligible to return to the big-league roster on the team's upcoming road trip that starts this Friday in Seattle against the Mariners, and manager Bob Melvin said he expects the former closer to be back. Doval's role will be to be determined, though, as right-hander Ryan Walker has been pretty dominant of late after taking over as the club's primary closer. Doval lost virtually all of his fantasy value when the Giants optioned him to Triple-A Sacramento earlier this month. The Giants had seen enough after five blown saves from the 27-year-old this year while also sporting career-high 14.3% walk rate. He walked one and struck out five while giving up two runs in four innings for the River Cats since being sent down and is likely going to be used in lower-leverage situations in San Fran upon his return. There's no guarantee he'll be closing games again this year at the big-league level if Walker continues to be dominant.

Fri Aug 919:40Giants Option Camilo Doval
The San Francisco Giants optioned right-handed reliever Camilo Doval to Triple-A Sacramento on Friday. The move comes a day after Doval blew his fifth save of the season (he was credited with a win) when he allowed three runs on a hit (a game-tying home run) and two walks over an inning of work against the Washington Nationals on Thursday. Doval was luckily bailed out with a win when the Giants scored four runs in the top of the 10th inning, but the Giants had seen enough. The 27-year-old closer has 22 saves on the year and led the league with 39 saves in 2023, but his 27.6% strikeout rate is a career-low, and he's coupled it with a career-worst 14.3% walk rate in 44 innings in 2024. It's a drastic measure by the Giants team that has plenty of other issues besides Doval at the back end of their bullpen. Moving forward, the Gigantes figure to play the matchups in save situations with Ryan Walker and Taylor Rogers.

Fri Aug 908:35Camilo Doval Blows Fifth Save
San Francisco Giant closer Camilo Doval fell victim to his fifth blown save against the Washington Nationals on Thursday. After picking up the save on Wednesday in a scoreless inning, it would not be as easy Thursday. Doval allowed a pair of walks, while getting two groundouts before giving up a game-tying, three-run home run to Luis Garcia Jr. with two outs to send the game into extra innings. Doval was able to salvage some of his poor outing when the Giants won in extra innings, giving him the victory, but it was an overall rough appearance. Doval has been a rollercoaster of sorts this season, having the occasional blow up, but he should remain the Giants closer and is a strong option when everything is cooking for him on the hill. With Doval working in back-to-back games, the Giants could turn to Tyler Rogers, Taylor Rogers or Ryan Walker if a save is needed on Friday.

Tue Aug 600:54Camilo Doval Notches 21st Save Of Season Monday
San Francisco Giants closer Camilo Doval picked up his 21st save of the season in convincing fashion in a 4-1 victory over the Nationals. Doval came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by three and shut the door by striking out the side. The 27-year-old has converted 21 of 25 save opportunities this season and has provided a strong 12.00 K/9 rate. However, his 4.29 ERA is higher than fantasy managers would like to see, and it could be in part due to his bloated 5.57 BB/9 rate. Job security and high-end strikeout upside should keep Doval in the conversation as a higher-end fantasy option, but he will remain in just the mid-hier tier of options if his walk issues continue to plague him.

Mon Jul 1512:27Camilo Doval Blows A Save Against Twins
San Francisco Giants closer Camilo Doval blew his fourth save of the season on Sunday against the visiting Minnesota Twins, giving up two earned runs on two hits while walking one and striking out one in just one-third of an inning in the team's eventual 3-2 victory. It was Doval's first blown save since June 28, and he had five straight scoreless appearances before struggling again on Sunday. The 27-year-old Dominican reliever hasn't had the best of seasons at the halfway point for the Giants, as he's currently has a 4.38 ERA (3.51 FIP), a 1.62 WHIP, 17 saves, 49 strikeouts and 24 walks in 37 innings pitched. Doval led the league with a career-high 39 saves in 2023, which earned him his first All-Star appearance. However, he's currently sporting a career-high 14% walk rate, and if he continues to hand out free passes in the second half, there's a chance he could lose his grip on the closer role.

Thu Jun 2710:17Camilo Doval Notches 14th Save
San Francisco Giants closer Camilo Doval pitched a scoreless ninth inning to nail down the victory and pick up the save in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Cubs. It was Doval's 14th save of the year. While it was his fifth straight conversion, he has had some rough outings this season including a non-save situation on June 16 in which he allowed four earned runs on four hits and two walks, with that outing marking the second time this season he's allowed four earned runs in an appearance. As such, the 26-year-old is sporting a 4.40 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, and 12.0% K-BB% on the season.

Sun Jun 906:48Camilo Doval Earns Save On Saturday
San Francisco Giants right-hander Camilo Doval tossed a scoreless ninth inning to save a 3-1 win over the Texas Rangers on Saturday. Doval worked around a hit and a walk to keep Texas off the board on the way to earning his 11th save in 13 opportunities in 2024. Overall, it has been an up-and-down season for Doval, who has a 3.91 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, and 31 strikeouts in 25 1/3 innings of work for the Giants. That being said, he has a firm grip on the ninth-inning role in San Francisco and should see the bulk of the save chances for the contending Giants. He should remain in fantasy lineups as a nice source of strikeouts and saves moving forward.

Sat May 2501:04Camilo Doval Hangs On For Ninth Save
San Francisco Giants closer Camilo Doval nearly blew the save in Friday's win on the road over the New York Mets, but he held on to record his ninth save of the year despite a one-run ninth inning. DJ Stewart first doubled to get the tying run to the plate in the ninth, scoring on a Francisco Lindor single. Doval may have been the one to ultimately seal the deal on Friday, but it was Matt Chapman's stunning bare-handed throw to first base to retire Mark Vientos for the final out that completed the adventure. The flame-throwing 26-year-old right-hander features a 3.05 ERA with 27 punchouts through 20 2/3 innings as San Fran's stopper this year, but his 1.50 WHIP is a cause for some concern. Despite the shaky outing, Doval should still be viewed as one of fantasy's preeminent closers going forward.

Thu May 218:43Camilo Doval Snags Sixth Save Of The Season
San Francisco Giants closer Camilo Doval struck out one batter in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save against the Boston Red Sox on Thursday. The 26-year-old is six-for-six on save opportunities this season to go along with a 3.09 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 15/6 K/BB. Doval has not been flawless this year, but he has found a way to work around trouble when it pops up. The right-hander remains a premium fantasy option as he tries to usurp last season's career-high of 39 saves.

Sun Apr 719:42Camilo Doval Locks Down First Save
San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Camilo Doval has experienced a rough start to the season with two runs allowed in 2 2/3 innings coming into Sunday's game. However, the right-hander was able to hold his own versus the San Diego Padres. Doval struck out the side while working around a two-out single by Jackson Merrill. It's still early in the season, but it's nice to see Doval putting together a solid outing. He has been one of the more reliable options at the closer spot over the last few years.

Wed Mar 1307:42Camilo Doval Tosses Another Scoreless Inning
San Francisco Giants closer Camilo Doval tossed another scoreless inning in Tuesday's loss versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. Doval allowed two hits in the contest, with no walks or strikeouts. The fireballer has now thrown four innings this spring and allowed just three hits with two walks and five strikeouts. The 26-year-old appeared in 69 games for the Giants in 2023 and recorded 39 saves with 87 strikeouts in 67 2/3 innings. A steady force at the end of games, Doval can safely be selected as a Top-10 closer option in all formats.

Thu Feb 2900:51Camilo Doval Efficient In First Outing This Spring
San Francisco Giants closer Camilo Doval was very efficient during Monday's Spring Training game against the Los Angeles Angels. He pitched one full inning but required just eight pitches, all of which were strikes. He surrendered one hit and struck out two batters along the way. Doval has emerged as a very effective relief arm, tossing 67.2 innings, maintaining a 2.93 ERA, and registering 39 saves in 2023. He remains the Giants' closer heading into 2023, giving him significant fantasy appeal.

Mon Sep 18 202300:50Camilo Doval Implodes Sunday
San Francisco Giants closer Camilo Doval was once again not on his game Sunday, allowing four runs to the Colorado Rockies in IP. Doval allowed three hits and committed an error that allowed the game to continue. The 26-year-old has been very hittable since the middle of August, a span in which he has allowed 13 runs (8 earned) in 12 IP. With the Giants fighting for a wild card spot, they don't have much time to let Doval figure it out and might have to go with a committee approach if he continues his rough stretch. In the long run, expect Doval to continue as the team's closer, but it is a situation to watch during this stretch run.

Mon Sep 11 202300:44Camilo Doval Picks Up National League-Leading 37th Save
San Francisco Giants closer Camilo Doval cruised to his 37th save on Sunday, closing out a 6-3 win over the Colorado Rockies. Doval allowed a hit and struck out one in his inning of work. The 26-year-old has gotten back on track, converting his last four saves while allowing just one run in his last five innings pitched. Before that he had hit a rough patch, blowing four consecutive saves (more than he had blown all season). He looks fine now though, and should be trustworthy down the stretch. Expect him to be drafted highly among relievers next season.

Wed Aug 23 202321:07Camilo Doval Suffers Fourth Straight Blown Save
San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Camilo Doval has heavily struggled on the mound lately. The right-hander suffered his fourth straight blown save during Wednesday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. To be fair, the first two blown saves were on errors and the runs were inherited runners. However, the last two blown saves have been completely Doval's fault on the mound. On Wednesday, Doval walked two batters before allowing a game typing three-run home run to Bryce Harper. Doval is certainly having a tough time on the mound right now, but it's unlikely that the Giants remove him from the closer role. Doval has 33 saves and a 3.03 ERA, so he has done a good job throughout most of the season. Possibly, the Giants give him a short break to figure things out, but he should remain the long term closer in San Francisco.

Wed Aug 23 202300:35Camilo Doval Blows Save, Takes Loss Tuesday
San Francisco Giants closer Camilo Doval blew his sixth save of the season and picked up his fourth loss in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Phillies. Doval entered the game to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by one. He hit the leadoff batter, got the first out on a flyout, allowed a single, intentionally walked the bases loaded, and ended the game on a two-RBI single. Despite this game, Doval has been one of fantasy's top closers this season, notching 33 saves with a 2.60 ERA and 12.20 K/9 rate. Fantasy managers should have him in their lineups at all times.

Mon Aug 21 202300:44Camilo Doval Takes Tough Blown Save, Picks Up Win
San Francisco Giants closer Camilo Doval blew his fifth save but picked up the win Sunday, recording the final five outs in a 4-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves. Doval came in with the Giants up 3-2 and runners on first and second. He allowed a run to score, but it was on a throwing error. After the Giants regained the lead in the ninth, Doval came back and shut down the Braves. The 26-year-old now holds a 2.29 ERA and 1.04 WHIP on the season, and although he has blown his last two saves (both on unearned runs) he remains near the top of the league with 33 saves. He is a top-five closer for fantasy purposes.

Thu Aug 3 202308:05Camilo Doval Records His 32nd Save On Wednesday
San Francisco Giants reliever Camilo Doval closed out Wednesday's 4-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. He went one inning and allowed no baserunners to earn his 32nd save of the season, tied for the most in all of baseball. Doval also owns a 2.52 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and 33.2% strikeout rate across 50 innings. The right-hander's been one of the most valuable arms this season, and it'll likely remain that way. Fantasy managers should start Doval in every league.

Wed Jul 26 202308:20Camilo Doval Earns Another Save Tuesday
San Francisco Giants right-hander Camilo Doval grabbed himself another save on Tuesday when he closed out the 2-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics. He went one inning, striking out the side without allowing a baserunner. Doval has been one of the most valuable relievers in baseball this season, leading the league with 31 saves while also sporting a 2.35 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and 33.2% strikeout rate over 46 innings. The 26-year-old is a no-doubt must-start in every format.
