Ziomek was name the Tigers' pitching Prospect of the Year by MLBPipeline.com. |
The Tigers kept him at Hi-A Lakeland all year rather than advancing him too quickly and it paid off. While he just went 9-11, Ziomek struck out 143 over 154.2 innings in 27 starts and walked just 34. He finished with a 3.43 ERA. His ultimate ceiling may be limited by his lack of a true out pitch, but he gets by with good movement and command. Think of him as a solid, but unspectacular No. 4 starter. |

Ziomek, 23, will begin the season at High-A Lakeland, Chris Iott of MLive.com reports. |
Given his age and the numbers that he's put up in the lower levels of the Detroit system to this point, it would hardly be surprising to see Ziomek push his way to Double-A Erie during the first half of the season. Last season, he carried a 152:53 K:BB over 123 innings (23 starts) in the Midwest League. |
