Wed Aug 2116:32Orioles Claim Emmanuel Rivera Off Waivers From Marlins
The Baltimore Orioles claimed infielder Emmanuel Rivera off waivers from the Miami Marlins on Wednesday and designated infielder/outfielder Terrin Vavra for assignment in a corresponding move. Rivera recently lost his spot on Miami's 40-man roster and is now heading to the American League East. Because the 28-year-old is out of minor-league options, he'll report to Baltimore's big-league club and will give the O's some depth at third base with Jordan Westburg (hand) still on the injured list. Don't expect him to be anything more than a bench bat for Baltimore, though, and he could be looking for another team once Westburg returns. The Puerto Rican infielder, formerly a 19th-round pick by the Kansas City Royals in 2015, hit .214/.294/.269 with a homer and 15 RBI in 96 games for the Marlins before getting cut.

Mon Aug 1912:22Emmanuel Rivera Designated For Assignment
The Miami Marlins designated infielder Emmanuel Rivera for assignment on Monday and recalled infield prospect Connor Norby from Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move. The Marlins also recalled right-handers Adam Oller and George Soriano from Jacksonville to begin the week. Norby is the team's No. 3 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and was acquired in the trade in late July that sent Trevor Rogers to the Baltimore Orioles. The 28-year-old was already not playing all that much before the arrival of Norby, so he'll now be dumped from the 40-man roster. The Puerto Rican infielder played in 96 games for the Fish this year and hit just .214/.294/.269 with a career-worst .563 OPS, only one home run, 15 RBI and 15 runs scored in 229 plate appearances. Rivera is likely to pass through waivers unclaimed and could accept an outright assignment to Jacksonville.

Tue Apr 219:33Marlins Acquire Emmanuel Rivera From Diamondbacks
The Miami Marlins announced on Tuesday that they acquired infielder Emmanuel Rivera from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for cash considerations. In a corresponding move, the Marlins designated infielder Jacob Amaya for assignment. Rivera will head to the East Coast as infield depth (mainly at third base behind Jake Burger) and as a candidate to get some at-bats at designated hitter for the Fish. The 27-year-old is off the fantasy radar in pretty much all leagues but would be a candidate for a waiver-wire pickup in NL-only setups if Burger misses time with injury. The Puerto Rican infielder has slashed .247/.304/.380 with 17 home runs, 74 RBI, four stolen bases and 91 runs scored in 217 games played in his three major-league seasons to this point.

Tue Feb 2013:41Emmanuel Rivera A Backup Option At Shortstop
Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Emmanuel Rivera is a backup option at shortstop behind starter Geraldo Perdomo this year, despite the fact that he hasn't played the position as a professional. However, the 27-year-old Rivera has played the 6 in winter ball and again this offseason, and some in the front office think he has the best hands of anyone in the infield and is a right-hander that hits lefties well. Rivera could be an option to spell Perdomo against tough left-handed pitching in 2024. He will get more work at short in camp and is also out of minor-league options. Top prospect Jordan Lawlar is the future at the position in Arizona, but he needs more development in the minor leagues. In addition to Rivera, Ketel Marte, Jace Peterson and Kevin Newman are other backup shortstop options for the Snakes in 2024.

Tue Oct 31 202316:13Emmanuel Rivera Starting Over Evan Longoria In Game 4
Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Evan Longoria will retreat to the bench for Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday against the visiting Texas Rangers. Instead, Emmanuel Rivera will start at the hot corner and bat eighth against Rangers left-hander Andrew Heaney. Rivera has gone 2-for-2 with a double, two RBI, a walk and two runs scored off the bench in the first three games of the World Series, and he'll now receive his first start of the Fall Classic. The 27-year-old is hitting .286 (4-for-14) with no homers, a double, three RBI and three runs scored this postseason. During the regular season, he hit .289 (26-for-90) with one of his four home runs against left-handed pitchers. Rivera has never faced Heaney in his career.

Wed Apr 26 202314:26Emmanuel Rivera Hitting Second Wednesday
Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Emmanuel Rivera will make his first start of the 2023 season at third base and out of the two-hole for Wednesday afternoon's contest against Royals left-hander Ryan Yarbrough. Rivera was promoted from Triple-A Reno on Tuesday and logged a pinch-hit RBI single in his first plate appearance of the 2023 campaign with the D-backs in Tuesday night's contest. The 26-year-old has raked Triple-A pitching so far this season as he's hitting .348 with two homers, six doubles, two triples, and a .969 OPS across just 16 games. He actually split last season between the Royals and D-backs and hit .233 with 12 HR and a .701 OPS across 102 games. His starting at third allows veteran Evan Longoria to switch to designated hitter on Wednesday.
