Thu Jul 3 2014 | 09:27 | Paul Fanaika penciled in at right guard |
Paul Fanaika will enter training camp as the Cardinals' starting right guard. |
Fanaika started all 16 games last year, but struggled badly in the run game and finished as one of the worst guards in the league. He should face serious competition from 2013 fourth-rounder Earl Watford in camp. Regardless, the Cardinals offensive line projects to be far more effective overall this season thanks to the addition of left tackle Jared Veldheer and the return of left guard Jonathan Cooper. |

Cardinals signed OG Paul Fanaika to a one-year contract extension through 2014. |
It's somewhat odd timing, as the 2009 seventh-round pick is coming off his first career start, but coach Bruce Arians must have loved what he saw. Fanaika's power blocking fits Arians' scheme. Fanaika graded out negatively in Pro Football Focus' ratings Sunday. |

Fanaika, 27, was a 2009 seventh-round pick of the Eagles. He's appeared in three career games, never making a start. From left to right, Arizona's Week 1 line will read LT Levi Brown, LG Daryn Colledge, C Lyle Sendlein, RG Fanaika, and RT Eric Winston. They're going to have a helluva time in the NFC West. |

Wed Aug 7 2013 | 09:20 | Fanaika could challenge for starting RG job |
Coach Bruce Arians thinks Paul Fanaika could challenge Daryn Colledge for the Cardinals' starting right guard job. |
Colledge has been out for over a week as he deals with a leg injury, and Fanaika has been getting the first-team reps in his absence. Arians has always tended to like bigger, powerful offensive lineman, and Fanaika fits the bill at 6-foot-5, 327. Colledge (6-foot-4, 308) is a better fit for a zone scheme. |
