Boone will move from right guard to left guard this season, Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports. |
Boone is considered the best guard on the 49ers' roster, so they will move him to the left side to help protect Colin Kaepernick's blind side. |

Boone underwent surgery on his knee to repair meniscus damage, the Sacramento Bee reports. |
Boone went through a lengthy contract holdout in the preseason, but ultimately re-signed with the 49ers and played most of their games this season. He suffered the knee injury late in the year and will undergo offseason surgery to repair it. All indications are that he will be good to go by the start of the 2015 season. |
Sun Aug 31 2014 | 18:33 | Boone has ended holdout with 49ers and will report to team after... |
Boone has ended his holdout with the 49ers and will report to the team after restructuring his two-year deal, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. |
Things were starting to look bleak for both parties after a deal wasn't reached by the 49ers' fourth preseason game, but both sides finally broke down and worked out a deal. Boone agreed to restructure his deal for the next two years, which will bump his yearly salary from $3.7 million to $6 million. The 49ers didn't have a lot of depth behind Boone, and it was evident by their poor protection in the preseason, so that definitely worked in Boone's favor. He will return to his usual role as the starting right guard. |
Sun Aug 10 2014 | 14:23 | The 49ers have received interest from teams regarding Boone |
The 49ers have received interest from teams regarding Boone, who is holding out for a new contract, the Sacramento Bee reports. |
This should come as no surprise considering Boone is a Pro Bowl guard who can also play the tackle position. The team seems firm in their stance to not give in to Boone's demands, so a trade is a likely situation. Joe Looney would fill in at right guard should a trade be executed. |
Wed Jul 30 2014 | 11:35 | 49ers reach out to holdout RG Alex Boone |
The Sacramento Bee reports the 49ers recently reached out to holdout RG Alex Boone, but Boone "remains resolute in his stance." |
The 49ers have about $10 million in cap space, while Boone is the 43rd-highest paid guard in the league and wants to be paid like a starter. Joe Looney has been filling in at right guard during Boone's absence. He's reportedly looked pretty good. It's unclear if the 49ers plan to buckle and work out a new deal with Boone. But he's apparently ready to stay home until then. |

Wed Jul 23 2014 | 12:33 | Alex Boone not taking the Vernon Davis route |
RG Alex Boone will not report to 49ers training camp, as expected. |
Boone isn't going to cave like Vernon Davis. As the 38th-highest paid guard in the league, he has a far better case for raise and appears set to dig in for a long holdout. It's a sticky situation for the 49ers, who have been adamant that they won't tear up existing deals for players with multiple years left on their contract, like Davis and Michael Crabtree. Boone is a valuable lynchpin of their dominant offensive line. |

Sat Jul 12 2014 | 10:38 | 'No way' Boone reports without new contract |
CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco said there is "no way" 49ers RG Alex Boone reports to training camp on time without a new contract. |
This echos a report from ESPN's Bill Williamson earlier in the summer. A holdout would put the 49ers in a difficult position. On the one hand, the team has been adamant they will not tear up existing deals and give out raises. If they acquiesce to Boone, they would have to deal with other players like Vernon Davis who are also after new contracts. On the other hand, Boone is a lynchpin of one of the most dominant lines in the league, and San Francisco does not have anyone else they could plug in that would come even close to his level of play. When principles confront reality, reality usually wins out, and the reality is the 49ers need Boone to keep their offense ticking. |

Wed Jun 18 2014 | 09:01 | Alex Boone digging in for long holdout? |
ESPN 49ers reporter Bill Williamson does not expect RG Alex Boone to report for training camp without a new contract. |
In other words, Williamson gets the sense that Boone isn't running a bluff by skipping this week's mandatory minicamp. He's currently the 38th-highest paid guard in football and is coming off a dominant campaign that saw him grade out third in PFF's rankings. The 49ers have been "steadfast in their stance" that they won't tear up existing deals and give out raises -- especially when there's two years left on the deal as in Boone's case. |

Tue Jun 17 2014 | 16:35 | 49ers RG Alex Boone blows off minicamp |
49ers RG Alex Boone failed to report for mandatory minicamp on Tuesday. |
As he's been threatening to do for weeks. Joining Boone as AWOL was TE Vernon Davis. Coach Jim Harbaugh made his displeasure with their absences known. "I'm disappointed in that decision for them not to be here," Harbaugh said. "(It's) not the decision I envision being the 49er way." Boone has more leverage than Davis, but neither is likely to earn the raise they seek. |

Thu Jun 12 2014 | 23:27 | Alex Boone does not intend to report |
ProFootballTalk reports 49ers RG Alex Boone does not intend to report for the team's mandatory minicamp. |
Boone will forfeit nearly $70,000 if he does not attend. Boone is unhappy with his current contract that is set to pay him "only" $2.2 million in salary and bonuses this season and $1.65 million next season. Boone has started 38 straight games for the 49ers and been an integral part of their back-to-back Super Bowl runs, but with several players up for contract extensions in the near future, Boone may be barking at the wind. |

Tue May 27 2014 | 15:52 | 49ers RG Alex Boone wants a new contract |
49ers RG Alex Boone is unhappy with his current contract and is skipping OTAs. |
Boone is entering the fourth year of a five-year, $7.45 million deal and is scheduled to earn a $2 million base salary this season. He's started all 32 games the past two seasons and was PFF's No. 2 right guard in 2012 before falling off as a pass blocker in 2013. The 6-foot-8, 300-pound mountain works best when he can get out in space as a run blocker. With LG Mike Iupati, Colin Kaepernick, and Michael Crabtree entering contract years, the 49ers are going to find it extremely difficult to pay all their stars. Boone is unlikely to see an extension now. |

Thu Dec 6 2012 | 18:02 | Boone solidifies right guard for 49ers |
49ers OC Greg Roman suggested RG Alex Boone is coming off his best game of the season in Week 14 versus the Rams. |
"When he gets out in space, he can get rolling, a bit like an 18-wheeler going down a hill," Roman said. Undrafted out of Ohio State in 2009, Boone has solidified the one vacancy on the 49ers' front line after converting from tackle. Pro Football Focus has rated Boone as a top-five guard for the majority of the season. |

Fri Jul 6 2012 | 14:01 | Alex Boone heavy favorite for starting job |
Alex Boone will enter training camp as the heavy favorite for the 49ers' starting right guard job. |
Beat writer Matt Maiocco questions whether there will even be a competition. The Niners let Chilo Rachal and Adam Snyder walk without a fight in free agency, and Boone is well out in front of Daniel Kilgore and fourth-rounder Joe Looney. From left to right, the 49ers' starting front five projects to be LT Joe Staley, LG Mike Iupati, C Jonathan Goodwin, RG Boone, and RT Anthony Davis. |

Wed May 23 2012 | 18:28 | Alex Boone favorite for 49ers' RG job |
Coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed that Alex Boone is the frontrunner for the 49ers' starting right guard job in 2012. |
Rookie Joe Looney would be a more viable competitor if he wasn't coming off a Lisfranc fracture. Daniel Kilgore will be a swing center/guard. Boone is tall for a guard at 6-foot-7, 328, but the 49ers are intent on putting their five best linemen on the field. Outgoing RG Adam Snyder (6'6/325) wasn't much smaller. |

Tue Apr 10 2012 | 14:48 | Alex Boone to compete for starting guard job |
49ers OL Alex Boone is expected to compete for a starting guard job this year. |
Coach Jim Harbaugh often referred to Boone as one of his seven "starting" linemen last season. The former Ohio State star played 172 snaps as a swing tackle and extra blocker in short-yardage packages. Right guard is vacant following Adam Snyder's exit, and Boone is in the mix along with 2011 fifth-rounder Daniel Kilgore. |

Thu Dec 8 2011 | 17:25 | 49ers sign Alex Boone to new four-year deal |
NFL.com's Jason La Canfora reports the 49ers recently signed reserve OT Alex Boone to a four-year contract extension with a $1.7 million signing bonus. |
Originally signed as an undrafted free agent in 2009 after alcohol and conditioning issues killed his draft stock, Boone has played in all 12 games this season after appearing in just one between 2009 and 2010. He should remain a reserve for the near future. |
