The Chiefs have acquired Grubbs from the Saints in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick, ESPN.com reports.
Obtaining Grubbs will help to further bolster the middle of the Chiefs' offensive line, which was boosted Wednesday by the reported addition of Paul Fanaika. Per the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the move frees up $3.6 million in salary cap space for the Saints.
Wed Feb 27 201318:39Ben Grubbs restructures contract
Saints LG Ben Grubbs has restructured his contract, slashing his base salary from $5.2 million to $1.2 million.
Like teammate Marques Colston, Grubbs' missing $4 million should be turned into a signing bonus that's pro-rated over the final four years of his deal. That would save the Saints $3 million in cap space this season.

Thu Mar 15 201210:32Saints land OG Grubbs as Nicks replacement
Saints signed OG Ben Grubbs, formerly of the Ravens, to a five-year, $36 million deal.
The deal includes a $10 million signing bonus, and $16 million "fully guaranteed." Grubbs provides the Saints a soft landing after they lost LG Carl Nicks to the Bucs, but at a surprisingly steep cost. Grubbs landed just $11.5 million less total money, and will average roughly $2 million less per season. Grubbs graded out as Pro Football Focus' sixth-best left guard in 2011, but Nicks was significantly better in both run and pass blocking. Nicks is also more than a year younger. The Ravens will likely now focus on signing free agent Evan Mathis to replace Grubbs.

Wed Mar 14 201214:16Report: OG Grubbs 'in play' for Redskins
According to the Washington Times, free agent OG Ben Grubbs is "in play" for the Redskins.
Whether the Skins have enough cap space to enter a bidding war for Grubbs is in question after the signings of Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan. The Saints were reportedly pushing hard to sign Grubbs after losing Carl Nicks.

Tue Mar 13 201210:41Grubbs expected to surpass Yanda's deal
Free agent LG Ben Grubbs is expected to surpass Ravens RG Marshal Yanda's five-year, $32 million contract on the open market.
"Barring a last-minute deal that's not expected to transpire," Grubbs is expected to leave Baltimore for a mega contract. In addition to the previously mentioned Bears and Cowboys, the Carroll County Times lists the Browns and Bucs as likely suitors.

Mon Mar 12 201209:22Ravens make 'substantial' offer to LG Grubbs
The Baltimore Sun reports the Ravens have made "what both sides acknowledged" was a substantial offer to impending free agent LG Ben Grubbs.
According to the Sun, "all indications" are that there is not "much leeway" to expand on the offer. If Grubbs turns it down, he's almost certainly headed to the open market. Unless he finds his market unexpectedly depressed by the presence of fellow free agent LG Carl Nicks, Grubbs will likely be moving on from Baltimore.

Thu Mar 1 201210:15Bears, Cowboys may pursue Ben Grubbs
The Carroll County Times mentions the Bears and Cowboys as potential suitors for free agent LG Ben Grubbs.
Both clubs have interior offensive line needs, particularly Dallas. Chicago would likely demote former first-round pick Chris Williams out of the starting lineup should it land someone like Grubbs. Grubbs, 28, has started all but 10 games in his five-year career. He was Pro Football Focus' No. 12 guard in 2011.

Wed Feb 29 201210:50Ravens, Grubbs not close to long-term deal
Although the Ravens' talks involving free agent LG Ben Grubbs have been "very positive," his player rep suggests the two sides are not close to a deal.
"Ben is extremely highly regarded in this league. He's in the prime of his career and may or may not have another opportunity to sign another significant contract," the agent said. "He needs to be sure that he explores all his options." Grubbs may be headed for the open market after all, at which point the Ravens will likely get outbid.

Tue Feb 28 201210:15Grubbs' rep has 'positive meeting' w/ Ravens
Free agent LG Ben Grubbs' player rep says he had a "very positive meeting" with the Ravens at the Scouting Combine.
Grubbs appeared as good as gone earlier this offseason, but the Ravens appear to be at least making an effort to retain their Pro Bowl left guard. With $32.5 million already committed to RG Marshal Yanda, however, it reamins more likely than not that Grubbs will be playing elsewhere in 2012.

Sun Feb 26 201212:32Bears potential landing spot for Grubbs
The Carroll County Times' Aaron Wilson is "hearing" the Bears will be a potential landing spot for free agent LG Ben Grubbs if he is not re-signed by the Ravens.
Grubbs has been expected to reach the open market, but coach John Harbaugh insisted in a radio interview last week that the Ravens were going to "really make a run" at re-signing him. The Bears ended 2011 with former undrafted free agent Edwin Williams at left guard.

Fri Feb 24 201210:06Ravens 'making a run' at re-signing LG Grubbs
Coach Jim Harbaugh insists the Ravens are going to "really make a run" at re-signing LG Ben Grubbs.
"We've offered -- I don't know if we've offered it yet -- but we're in negotiations of offering a lot of money," Harbaugh told a local radio station. Harbaugh believes his guard duo of Grubbs and Marshal Yanda is as good as any in the league, and "we're going to pay Ben as such." Whether Grubbs agrees that amount is "a lot of money" remains to be seen.

Thu Feb 2 201214:49Newsome not ready to give up on Grubbs
Updating a previous item, Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome isn't giving up on the idea of signing free agent LG Ben Grubbs to a long-term contract.
"I think we're at a good spot with Ben," Newsome said. "But, who will Ben keep us from getting and who will we have to let go in order to keep Ben? That's going to be the balance." Newsome has identified the offensive line as his biggest priority for the offseason, followed by continuing to "build at the receiver spot" and adding pass rushers.

Wed Feb 1 201216:52Ben Grubbs not part of Ravens' future plans?
The Ravens were less optimistic about their chances of retaining free agent LG Ben Grubbs than Ray Rice at Wednesday's press conference.
Owner Steve Bisciotti and GM Ozzie Newsome "could make no guarantees" about Grubbs, saying they like him as a player but he's not necessarily a part of their future. Some top notch guards are going to hit the market if Grubbs and Carl Nicks aren't locked up before March 13. Eagles LG Evan Mathis, Titans RG Jake Scott, and 49ers RG Chilo Rachal will also command attention.

Fri Jan 27 201208:50Could be 'complicated' for Grubbs to re-sign
Free agent LG Ben Grubbs realizes that re-signing with the Ravens could get "a little complicated" due to RG Marshal Yanda's five-year, $32 million contract.
"I have a lot of faith and trust that something good will happen no matter what," said Grubbs, "but I know it's a business." One of the league's elite interior players, Grubbs is expected to exceed Yanda's contract. It's rare for a team to devote that much of the salary cap to a pair of guards.

Mon Nov 7 201101:36Grubbs took pain-killing shot to play in W9
Ravens LG Ben Grubbs said after Sunday's win over the Steelers that he wasn't sure if he aggravated the turf toe ailment that has sidelined him since Week 2.
That's because he took a pain-killing shot to play, and Grubbs said he'd know more about his status for Week 10 on Wednesday. He held up well on Sunday, and his mere presence is a difference-maker for the Ravens.

Sun Nov 6 201119:18Grubbs (toe) active for Week 9 vs. Steelers
LG Ben Grubbs (toe) is active for the Ravens' Week 9 game against the Steelers.
As one of the league's top guards his return will be a welcome sight. RB Anthony Allen, WR Tandon Doss, DB Chykie Brown, LB Dannell Ellerbe, WR Lee Evans, TE Kris Wilson, and LB Sergio Kindle have been declared inactive.

Fri Sep 30 201110:35Ravens LG Grubbs hits practice field
Ravens LG Ben Grubbs (toe) returned to practice on a limited basis Thursday.
Grubbs has just now begun jogging, so he's not yet been given the green light to play against the Jets in Week 4. Former Cowboys center Andre Gurode will continue to fill in if Grubbs sits out one more week.

Sat Sep 24 201121:21Grubbs (toe) out for Week 3 vs. St. Louis
LG Ben Grubbs (toe) will not play in Week 3 and backup C/G Andre Gurode will start in his place.
Unlike most centers, Gurode has the size at 6'4/315 to kick over to guard. Grubbs is one of the league's top guards and isn't easily replaced, but we're not downgrading Ray Rice's matchup against a Rams defense that is dead last against the run and allowing 5.07 yards per carry.

Fri Sep 23 201110:31Ben Grubbs to join Rice in 2012 free agency
In addition to Ray Rice, Ravens LG Ben Grubbs is also scheduled to hit free agency next season.
Rice is considered a prime candidate for the franchise tag, but Grubbs' future is more uncertain. As one of the league's top-10 guards, he'll draw plenty of suitors. "It'll be interesting to see what the Ravens do with Grubbs," writes ESPN.com's Jamison Hensley. "Baltimore already invested a big contract ($32 million over five years) this summer on the other starting guard, Marshal Yanda."
