Mon Dec 8 201412:03Scifres slated to undergo surgery to repair clavicular fracture
Scifres is slated to undergo surgery to repair clavicular fracture, the San Diego Union Tribune reports.
Scifres, who has averaged 45.7 yards on 55 punts this season, is presumably done for the regular season, though the report suggests that a postseason return is plausible, should the Chargers qualify for the playoffs.
Wed Sep 7 201109:45Mike Scifres gets a five-year deal
Chargers agreed to a five-year extension with P Mike Scifres.
Scifres was set to become a free agent after this season. He's been the Chargers' punter since 2004 and has never missed a game, playing through a hernia injury in 2009. Scifres ranked third in the league last season with a 46.9 yards-per-punt average and the Chargers clearly didn't blame him for their 2010 special teams woes.

Mon Jan 3 201113:11Acee thinks Crosby could be out of a job soon
Chargers beat writer Kevin Acee believes the Chargers will fire special teams coach Steve Crosby at some point during the week.
The Chargers had arguably the worst special teams unit in the history of the NFL, giving up five of the nine blocked punts in the league this season. Crosby has been one of the best special teams coaches in the league during his tenure, but we fully expect him to be the fall man in San Diego.

Thu May 27 201006:29Scifres resumes punting
Chargers P Mike Scifres (hernia surgery) has resumed punting at OTAs.
A bilateral hernia and abdominal tear hindered Scifres throughout 2009, as he finished with his lowest yards-per-punt average (45.0) since 2006. The mark was still good enough to rank top-ten in the NFL, and fourth in the AFC.
