Tue Dec 16 201415:47Summers released by Bills on Tuesday
Summers was released by the Bills on Tuesday, WGR 550 reports.

Sun Dec 8 201311:42Bills declare Week 14 inactives
Bills declared FB Frank Summers, QB Jeff Tuel, DB Brandon Smith, OL Mark Asper, OL Antoine McClain, TE Tony Moeaki, and LB Jamaal Westerman inactive for Week 14 against the Bucs.
"Frank the Tank" Summers has seen some short-yardage action recently, so his absence can't hurt the fantasy causes of C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson. There are no surprises otherwise among Buffalo's Week 14 inactives.

Tue Feb 15 201119:59Chargers sign FB Frank Summers
Chargers signed FB Frank Summers to a reserve-future contract.
The Steelers surprisingly allowed their seven-day negotiating window to come and go without bringing Summers back. The Chargers have had success with tweener backs like Summers, who are strong runners though not natural lead blockers. With Mike Tolbert and Jacob Hester already on the roster, though, Summers is facing an uphill battle.

Mon Sep 6 201010:56Steelers add eight to practice squad
Steelers signed RB Frank Summers, TE Eugene Bright, G Dorian Brooks, S Da'Mon Cromartie-Smith, WR Tyler Grisham, T Kyle Jolly, DT Steve McLendon and DE Doug Worthington to their practice squad.
Summers was beaten out by Jonathan Dwyer for the team's final running back spot. Cromartie-Smith is the cousin of Antonio Cromartie and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie but obviously is lacking the skills that his relatives possess.
Sat Sep 4 201017:52Steelers waive Summers, three others
Steelers waived FB Frank Summers, OG Kraig Urbik, DL Doug Worthington, and CB Joe Burnett.
With Summers out, Jonathan Dwyer will take the final roster spot in the backfield. Urbik and Burnett were third-round and fifth-round picks respectively last season. The Steelers got nothing out of them. Worthington was a 2010 seventh-rounder out of Ohio State.

Mon Aug 23 201009:07Summers exclusive at fullback
Frank Summers has settled into a first-team fullback role, but isn't a lock to make the final roster.
Summers isn't a natural lead-blocker and the Steelers don't use their fullback too much anyway. Isaac Redman could end up paired with Rashard Mendenhall in "Pony" sets and the Steelers have some H-back types that could serve as fullbacks.

Fri Aug 6 201019:57Frank Summers running as starting FB
Steelers 2009 fifth-round pick Frank Summers is running as the Steelers' first-team fullback in training camp.
"Frank the Tank" was the Rebels' primary halfback at UNLV, but he's settled in as a lead blocker with Pittsburgh. The Steelers don't use a whole lot of I-formations, so Summers won't be guaranteed a roster spot at final cuts.

Sun Apr 25 201008:44Summers practicing as RB and FB
Frank Summers is practicing at running back and fullback.
The Steelers still don't have a true fullback on the roster, as Summers is more of a short-yardage back than a true blocker. With sixth-round pick Jonathan Dwyer now in the mix, Summers' best chance for playing time is probably at fullback. The Steelers could also use tight ends Sean McHugh or David Johnson as a lead blocker.

Sun Apr 4 201010:50Summers working out with teammates
Steelers RB Frank Summers (back), has been working out with his teammates and "looks good," according to beat writer Ed Bouchette.
Summers' rookie season was cut short when he underwent back surgery early in the year. With Willie Parker now gone and Mewelede Moore declining badly, Summers has a shot to fulfill his potential as a short-yardage/goal line kind of back. His role will depend on who the Steelers add to their backfield in the draft and/or free agency.
