Free agent OT Jason Smith left his visit with the Titans without a contact. |
Smith was released on Saturday after he failed to win a swing-tackle job with the Jets. He was never considered likely to sign. The No. 2 pick of the 2009 draft, Smith will look to continue his career on the fifth-year veteran minimum. |

Free agent OT Jason Smith visited the Titans. |
Smith is notable because he was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2009 draft. He's on the street because he's been dumped by the Rams, Saints and Jets in the last year. The Titans were likely just updating their emergency list. |

Sat Aug 31 2013 | 20:07 | Jason Smith among Jets' cuts |
Jets released OT Jason Smith. |
Signed just nine days ago, Smith was aiming for a reprise of his 2012 swing-tackle duties, but predictably couldn't hack it. The No. 2 pick of the 2009 draft will enter the season with just six starts since 2010. He's near the end. |

Jets signed OT Jason Smith, formerly of the Saints. |
Smith was cut by the Saints on Wednesday, and it's surprising how quickly the colossal bust has found work. Smith spent the 2012 season with the Jets, and performed decently as the team's swing tackle. He'll fill that role again, but Gang Green will be in serious trouble if Smith has to start games. |

Thu Aug 22 2013 | 18:25 | Jets interested in Jason Smith reunion? |
The New York Post is "hearing" the Jets could bring back free agent OT Jason Smith. |
Smith was cut by the Saints on Wednesday. He signed with New Orleans after being released by the Jets earlier in the offseason. The Saints tried Smith at left tackle, but he's a slow-footed, turnstile right tackle-only lineman. He'd compete for the swing tackle role again with Gang Green. |

Saints released LT Jason Smith. |
The Saints brought Smith in to push Charles Brown for the starting job on Drew Brees' blindside. It never happened. Third-round rookie Terron Armstead will serve as Brown's backup and Smith heads back to the street. The No. 2 overall pick of the Rams in the 2009 draft has now been cut by two teams in the last six months. Smith is one of the biggest busts in the history of the league. |

Mon Jul 29 2013 | 18:22 | Jason Smith shaky early on in Saints camp |
The New Orleans Times-Picayune has observed OT Jason Smith as a player "who's not hot" early on in training camp. |
Not a surprise. Smith, a colossal draft bust, has been getting beat around the edge by pedestrian undrafted rookies and street free-agent pickups often in practice. Billed as a "sleeper" for the starting left tackle job as Drew Brees' blindside protector, Smith "hasn't been threatening" Charles Brown for the gig. Rookie Terron Armstead is also likely ahead of Smith on the depth chart. |

Tue Jun 18 2013 | 19:24 | Jason Smith a 'sleeper' for left tackle job? |
The New Orleans Times-Picayune considers Jason Smith a "sleeper" for the Saints' left tackle job. |
We'll call him a deep sleeper. A deep, deep, deep one. Smith is "competing" with Charles Brown and third-rounder Terron Armstead, but is a distant third. Smith did get some first-team reps in OTAs, but he isn't even a lock for a roster spot. The Saints will be in trouble if they need Smith to start games this season. |

Thu Apr 11 2013 | 14:42 | Saints sign former bust OT Jason Smith |
Saints signed OT Jason Smith, formerly of the Jets, to a one-year contract. |
Smith, 27 later this month, was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2009 draft by the Rams, but he proved to be a complete bust. Concussions forced him to miss 19 games in his three years with the Rams, and he was later traded to the Jets for another turnstile tackle in Wayne Hunter last summer. Smith appeared in all 16 games with New York in 2012 as an extra tackle, and he will compete for a roster spot in training camp. |

Tue Feb 19 2013 | 13:31 | Jets release mega-bust Jason Smith |
Jets released OT Jason Smith. |
The second overall pick in 2009 by St. Louis, Smith is one of the biggest busts in modern draft history. It's not surprising that the Jets are cutting ties with Smith because he was owed a $12 million roster bonus, and all of that comes off New York's cap. Operating as a special teams blocker and tight end in jumbo packages last season, Smith played under 300 offensive snaps. |

Mon Aug 27 2012 | 20:08 | Report: Jets near acquiring Rams RT Smith |
ESPN New York reports the Jets are on the verge of acquiring Rams RT Jason Smith, and that benched RT Wayne Hunter will head to St. Louis as part of the deal. |
From one turnstile to another. Like Hunter, Smith has been benched in St. Louis, and is on the roster bubble. The No. 2 pick of the 2009 draft would push undrafted free agent Austin Howard in New York, and likely become a part of the starting lineup at some point early in the year. Plagued by concussions, Smith has appeared in just 29 games in three years, and been a revolving door when he's in the lineup. He wouldn't be a major upgrade for the Jets' embattled offense. Hunter would back-up Barry Richardson in St. Louis. |

Sat Aug 25 2012 | 12:53 | Jason Smith's roster spot in danger? |
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch believes Rams RT Jason Smith is on the roster bubble. |
The No. 2 pick of the 2009 draft hoped to solidify his roster spot by taking a massive pay-cut in April, but he's been running behind Barry Richardson most of the preseason. Even if it's with the reserves, Smith desperately needs a solid showing in Saturday's regular season dress rehearsal against the Cowboys. |

Thu Aug 9 2012 | 10:13 | Jason Smith in at battle with Richardson |
Rams RT Jason Smith is losing some first-team reps to Barry Richardson. |
Even though Smith is a former No. 2 overall pick and Richardson is a 2008 sixth-rounder, coach Jeff Fisher has opened up the job to competition. Smith certainly has more potential, but both are major liabilities pass protection right now. It's an area of concern for the Rams. |

Mon May 21 2012 | 13:02 | Rams GM admits he's unsure about RT Smith |
Rams GM Les Snead admits he's not sure if Jason Smith is the team's long-term answer at right tackle. |
"But here's what I do know," Snead said. "You've got a really good offensive line coach (Paul Boudreau) who's proven he can make a unit's sum better than its parts. ... Long story short, I think (Smith's) going to have every chance to improve." Wishful thinking at its finest, though Smith's guaranteed $4 million salary ensures he'll get one more chance to prove himself as a starter. |

Sat Apr 21 2012 | 16:44 | Jason Smith restructures contract |
A league source tells MacsFootballBlog.com Rams RT Jason Smith has agreed to slash his $10 million 2012 salary to $4 million. |
However, his salary will be "fully guaranteed," and includes a $500,000 roster bonus. Smith has also agreed to void the final year of his rookie deal (2014), while 2013 is now a voidable year for the Rams. They're massive concessions for a former No. 2 overall pick, but Smith is lucky he wasn't released outright following another season marred by injury and ineffectiveness. The fact he'll still make a healthy $4 million suggests he remains locked in as the Rams' starting right tackle. His $12 million 2013 base salary has been reduced to $750,000, but includes a monster $11.25 million roster bonus that will force the Rams to make a decision on his future. |

Wed Apr 18 2012 | 08:32 | Rams RT Smith participating in OTAs |
Rams RT Jason Smith (concussions) is participating in this week's team activities. |
"He's good. He's been here, he's been working," said Fisher. "He's been working very well inside and his condition level is excellent. We're excited about a new start for him." The new coaching staff seems intent on giving Smith a shot to keep his starting job entering the 2012 season. |

Fri Mar 30 2012 | 14:01 | Rams expect Jason Smith to be cleared |
The Rams anticipate RT Jason Smith (concussions) being fully medically cleared for Organized Team Activities. |
"Jason will be cleared and ready to go," said Fisher. "My understanding now is he doesn't have any issues." Smith has surprisingly stayed on St. Louis' roster to this point, which either indicates they're holding out hope of trading him before the draft or are serious about giving Smith another shot. It's not like the Rams are flush with talent on the offensive line. |

Thu Feb 16 2012 | 13:56 | Jason Smith 'won't be back' at current salary |
A league source tells NFL.com Rams RT Jason Smith "won't be back" at his current 2012 base salary of $10 million, and is a candidate for release. |
This seconds a Profootballtalk.com report from January, which said Smith has received an "ultimatum" that he won't be back if he isn't amenable to a pay-cut. Only $1 million of his 2012 salary is guaranteed. Limited by concussions to just 29 of a possible 48 games since being the No. 2 overall pick of the 2009 draft, Smith has been abysmal in pass protection and only marginally better against the run. He could be on the verge of washing out of the league. |
