Gabbert was near perfect Saturday, completing 9-of-11 pass attempts for 96 yards in the second half of the loss to Denver.
Gabbert improved his preseason completion percentage to 82.1% through three games. This needs to be taken with a grain of salt, as he has been facing second-unit defenses and only attempting short and safe passes (6.71 YPA). Even with his exhibition success, there is little to no chance he surpasses the struggling Colin Kaepernick on the depth chart. However, Gabbert has secured his role as Kaepernick's primary backup.

Gabbert was in control of the offense Saturday, completing 8-of-11 pass attempts for 86 yards and a touchdown in the preseason loss to the Texans.
Gabbert looked strong in his 2015 debut, showing great accuracy on short-to-mid level throws. He continues to show an improvement in his decision making, and has developed into a solid backup quarterback during his tenure with the 49ers. He is all but a lock to be the primary backup behind Colin Kaepernick this season.
Tue Mar 10 201523:38Gabbert agreed to two-year
Gabbert agreed to a two-year, $2 million contract with the 49ers on Tuesday, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports.
Gabbert will return to San Francisco after being traded to the 49ers last March. He appeared in just one game last season but is the favorite to open the season as Colin Kaepernick's top backup.

Gabbert saw the field for the first time this season Sunday, completing 3-of-7 pass attempts for 38 yards and a touchdown in the blowout loss to the Broncos.
Gabbert was called into action once the game was well out of hand, so little should be read into his rare appearance Sunday. Barring a serious injury to starter Colin Kaepernick, Gabbert will remain on the bench going forward.
Thu Aug 28 201423:55Gabbert had X-rays on right shoulder Thursday
Gabbert had X-rays on his right shoulder Thursday, but they came back negative, CSN Bay Area reports.
Gabbert seems to be the likely candidate to back up Colin Kaepernick at this point, in spite of Josh Johnson's preseason push to overtake Gabbert. Despite injuring his shoulder on Thursday, Gabbert seems to have enough time to rest before the 49ers open their season against the Cowboys next Sunday.

Gabbert had his finest game of the preseason Sunday, completing 7-of-11 pass attempts for 66 yards and a touchdown in the win over the Chargers.
There was pressure on Gabbert to perform Sunday after struggling mightily in his previous two starts, but the former first round pick finally came through with a strong performance Sunday. There were rumblings that Josh Johnson could leap frog Gabbert on the depth chart, but Sunday's strong showing should silence those talks for at least another week. It should be noted that Gabbert will be owed $2 million whether the 49ers keep him or not, so he is all but a lock for the backup position behind Colin Kaepernick.

Gabbert completed 8-of-14 pass attempts for 40 yards and an interception in Sunday's preseason loss to the Broncos.
Gabbert's completion percentage was an improvement from last week, but his accuracy problems were still an issue, missing a few passes badly, one of which was picked off. There are rumblings that Josh Johnson may overtake Gabbert on the depth chart, and Gabbert isn't doing anything positive on the field to help his case. The only thing working in his favor is that the 49ers would still owe him the $2 million guaranteed in his contract if they were to cut him. Gabbert should enter week 3 of the preseason as the No. 2 quarterback on the depth chart.

Gabbert will be the second quarterback entering Sunday's preseason game against the Broncos, the Sacramento Bee reports.
After his abysmal 3-for-11 performance last week against Baltimore, there were rumblings that Josh Johnson could surpass Gabbert on the depth charts. But coach Jim Harbaugh came out this week and gave a vote of confidence for Gabbert and stated that he will be the second quarterback on the depth chart this week. This doesn't mean Gabbert will be the backup come week one, but the $2 million guaranteed in his contract will almost force the 49ers' hand in this position battle.

Gabbert was atrocious in Thursday's preseason opener, completing just 3-of-11 pass attempts for 20 yards and an interception.
Gabbert didn't look any different than he has with the Jaguars for the past three seasons. It was generally accepted that he was a lock for the backup quarterback position this season, but after the game coach Jim Harbaugh indicated that the situation is "murky" going forward. This will be a situation to monitor leading up to the regular season.
Tue Mar 11 201417:09Jags flip Gabbert to 49ers for sixth-rounder
49ers acquired QB Blaine Gabbert from the Jaguars for a sixth-round pick.
We're stunned the Jags could get even that. Perhaps the biggest first-round bust of the post-lockout era, Gabbert withers in the face of pressure like few in recent memory. That being said, he's now the favorite for No. 2 duties in San Francisco. Colt McCoy is a free agent. If anyone can salvage Gabbert's career, it's coach Jim Harbaugh, but there's no reason to believe Gabbert will ever develop into even a serviceable backup. He just doesn't have an NFL skill-set.

Fri Jan 10 201416:02Jaguars anticipate retaining Gabbert
Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell expects Blaine Gabbert to return to the roster in 2014.
Unless this is just GMSpeak, the Jaguars apparently like Gabbert as a backup. "At the very least he's a very good backup and he's under contract, so there's no reason why not to keep him here," Caldwell said. "There's no downside. ... We would like to have him back. We feel that he's under contract and he's made great strides this year. You guys probably haven't seen a lot of it because it's been mostly through our practice." Not probably. We definitely didn't see it.

Tue Dec 31 201308:59Jaguars expected to release or trade Gabbert
The Florida Times Union expects the Jaguars to either release or trade Blaine Gabbert.
Gabbert seems delusional, however. "I plan on being back and competing for the job," Gabbert said. "I'll be here [April 21] when we start over and go through the offseason program with the same coach." No, Blaine, you probably won't. Gabbert is due a little over $2 million in the final year of his rookie deal and didn't play a single snap after Week 5. Chad Henne will likely return as the Jaguars' backup. The team will address the starting quarterback spot in the draft or free agency.

Wed Oct 23 201308:56Blaine Gabbert cleared for full practice
Blaine Gabbert (hamstring) has been cleared for full practice.
Now the question is if the Jags will ever go back to the No. 10 overall pick in the 2011 draft. Gabbert showed no signs of improvement when active earlier this season, completing 42-of-86 passes (48.8 percent) for 481 yards with one touchdown and seven interceptions. His 36.0 passer rating would be dead last in the league by nearly 20 points if he had enough attempts to qualify. Chad Henne is fully expected to start Sunday's game against the Niners in London.

Thu Oct 17 201319:46Gabbert practicing, but won't play Sunday
Blaine Gabbert (hamstring) has resumed practicing in a limited fashion, but isn't expected to be active for Week 7.
Ricky Stanzi will back up Chad Henne against the Chargers. It's possible Gabbert won't return until after the Jaguars' Week 9 bye.

Mon Oct 7 201317:41Bradley less committal to Blaine Gabbert
After reviewing the Week 5 game tape Monday, Jaguars coach Gus Bradley was less committal about Blaine Gabbert keeping his starting job when he returns from his "popped" hamstring.
Gabbert has already been ruled out for Week 6 against the Broncos, and Bradley considers him "week to week." Said Bradley of Gabbert's grip on the starting job, "Last week I said he made a lot of good reads and we had to make plays for him. This week, I feel strongly again about Blaine, but there were missed opportunities. He needs to make the passes he does in practice. That's the next step for him." Gabbert has a 1:7 TD-to-INT ratio on the season.

Mon Oct 7 201315:39Blaine Gabbert formally ruled out for Week 6
Blaine Gabbert (hamstring) has been formally ruled out for Week 6.
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported earlier Monday that Gabbert could miss an "extended period of time." Chad Henne will be a low-end QB2 against a Broncos defense that got immolated by Tony Romo in Week 5.

Mon Oct 7 201313:30Report: Gabbert could miss 'extended period'
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Blaine Gabbert "heard his hamstring pop" in Sunday's loss, and could be sidelined an "extended period of time."
It's all the same for the Jags, who are still insisting Gabbert will be their starter when healthy, but have to know he doesn't give them their best chance to win. Not that winning is the Jags' primary concern this season. For now, they'll move forward with Chad Henne, and play slightly better football. Henne improves Justin Blackmon and Cecil Shorts' fantasy stock. Gabbert can be safely dropped in deeper two-quarterback leagues. Any time he leaves a game with injury, there's a chance it will be his last NFL start.

Sun Oct 6 201320:32Jaguars coach: Gabbert still our starting QB
Coach Gus Bradley insisted after Sunday's Week 5 loss Blaine Gabbert remains the Jaguars' starting quarterback when healthy.
Gabbert exited with a third-quarter left hamstring injury and didn't return. Against the Rams, Gabbert threw two interceptions, including a pick-six, and fumbled twice while trying to run around the pocket. "We just have to continue to train," said a glass-half-full Bradley. "The challenge is for our guys to play with some freedom." Fantasy owners would rather not see Gabbert play at all.

Sun Oct 6 201315:12Jags sit Blaine Gabbert due to 'hamstring'
Blaine Gabbert left Sunday's Week 5 game against the Rams in the third quarter with a hamstring injury and will not return.
The Jags say Gabbert strained his left hamstring. But it's certainly possible they're just trying to avoid embarrassing the inept third-year man by not announcing he's been benched. Before getting "injured," Gabbert was 9-of-19 for 181 yards with one touchdown and two horrific interceptions -- one was returned for a touchdown and the other was in the end zone. He now has one touchdown and seven interceptions on the season, proving weekly that he's a backup in the NFL at best. Chad Henne is on and gives the Jags a far better chance to win.
