Mon Nov 18 201314:38Titans place Campbell on injured reserve
Titans placed CB Tommie Campbell (shoulder) on injured reserve, ending his season.
The Titans tried molding Campbell into a starter to take Alterraun Verner's job all offseason. When push came to shove, Campbell couldn't cut it and Verner has exploded to become one of the NFL's top cornerbacks in 2013, his contract year. At one point a core special teamer but never an asset on defense, Campbell shouldn't be assured of a roster spot in 2014.

Sat Sep 7 201313:16Tommie Campbell could start Week 2
Titans DC Jerry Gray suggested that CB Tommie Campbell potentially could start in Week 2 against the Texans.
Campbell lost the starting right cornerback job to Alterraun Verner, but will see playing time in a rotation opposite Jason McCourty. Because he has better size than Verner, The Titans are considering matching him up with Andre Johnson next week. "He can get his hand on big wide receivers, and we know who we've got coming up in a week," Gray said. "And this guy is a really good wide receiver, and one of the best in the league. That may be best for us."

Titans CB Tommie Campbell has lost the starting right cornerback competition to Alterraun Verner.
The Titans desperately wanted Campbell to win this position, both this offseason and last offseason, but he couldn't do it. As ESPN AFC South blogger Paul Kuharsky notes, "They've either overestimated Campbell, failed to develop him or both." Campbell will now be a special teams player only. LCB Jason McCourty, RCB Verner, and Coty Sensabaugh are the Titans' top three corners.

Titans defensive coordinator Jerry Gray singled out third-year CB Tommie Campbell as a standout OTA performer.
Titans coaches talked up Campbell last offseason, too, but he was nowhere to be found when the games started. "Tommie Campbell has stood out, he's done a really good job of covering," said Gray. Campbell is competing to start opposite Jason McCourty, with Alterraun Verner apparently demoted to nickel back.

Wed Jan 30 201311:09Tommie Campbell prepping for bigger role
Titans CB Tommie Campbell says "off the field things" contributed to his lack of playing time in 2012.
Campbell admitted being late to a meeting and failing to gain the coaching staff's trust on the field as well. "If I have deep-third coverage in practice. then I need to be in the deep third," he said. "If I'm playing Cover 2, I need to get the jam and then sink - simple things like that before they could throw a guy like me out there." The Titans would be wise to get Campbell on the field more in 2013, kicking Alterraun Verner into a more natural slot role.

Titans second-year CB Tommie Campbell played 52-of-76 defensive snaps in the Week 17 finale versus Jacksonville.
Campbell, a seventh-round pick out of California (PA) in 2011, had played just 16 defensive snaps all season before Sunday. He was mainly a special teams player, but the coaching staff played him in the base defense over Alterraun Verner this week. Verner has one year left on his contract, but nickel corner Ryan Mouton is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Campbell could see an increased role in 2013.

Wed Jun 27 201216:03Tommie Campbell to be Titans nickel back?
After OTA and minicamp season, the Nashville Tennessean considers Tommie Campbell the favorite for Titans nickel back duties in 2012.
Campbell is big (6'3/205) and really fast, and defensive coordinator Jerry Gray praised his instincts as well. Jason McCourty and Alterraun Verner are locked in as the Titans' starting cornerbacks, but Verner will cover the slot in nickel packages. It sounds like Campbell will play RCB on all passing downs.

Wed Jun 6 201212:54Tommie Campbell looking at increased role
Last year's seventh-rounder, CB Tommie Campbell, is "in the mix for significant playing time" this season.
An intriguing size/speed package at 6'3/206 with legit 4.3 wheels, Campbell has impressed the coaching staff with his commitment level this offseason. With Alterraun Verner shifting to the slot in nickel packages, Campbell will vie with Chris Hawkins and Coty Sensabaugh for snaps opposite Jason McCourty.

Defensive coordinator Jerry Gray describes second-year man Tommie Campbell as the Titans' second best cornerback from a technical standpoint.
