Dorsey (leg) is expected to return to practice this week, CSN Bay Area reports.
Dorsey had been sideline with a leg strain, but he will return to practice this week and possibly play in Saturday's preseason tilt against the Broncos. Assuming good health, he will start at defensive end for the 49ers this season.

Dorsey lined up at defensive end during the first day of training camp, CSN Bay Area reports.
Dorsey - who played nose tackle with the 49ers in 2013 - was practicing with the first team at defensive end Saturday. With the departure of Justin Smith and Ray MacDonald this offseason, the club will look to Dorsey to help fill the void on the defensive line. Having fellow nose tackle Ian Williams healthy affords the team the luxury of sliding Dorsey over the one of the defensive end positions. Coach Jim Tomsula did mention that Dorsey will still get snaps at nose tackle as well. From a fantasy perspective, his value doesn't shift much, as he has never been adept at getting to the quarterback (6.0 career sacks).

Dorsey (biceps) is a candidate to replaced the retired Justin Smith at right defensive end, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Dorsey, the fifth overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, was largely a disappointment during his five years with the Chiefs. He turned in a solid season as the 49ers' nose tackle in 2013, but then missed all of 2014 due to a torn biceps. Dorsey said he isn't quite fully recovered, but it sounds as if he should be ready for training camp. While the 49ers are without former mainstays Smith and Ray McDonald, they still have plenty of intriguing names along the defensive line, highlighted by Darnell Dockett and 2015 first-round draft pick Arik Armstead. Starter or not, Dorsey won't merit IDP consideration.
Sat Dec 13 201418:22Dorsey (arm) placed on season-ending injured reserve Saturday
Dorsey (arm) was placed on season-ending injured reserve Saturday, Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com reports.
Dorsey spent most of the year on short-term on IR after undergoing biceps surgery in August, and he did not end up playing after being activated late last month. Cornerbak Marcus Cromartie and guard Andrew Tiller were added to the active roster, with NaVorro Bowman (knee) moved to IR along with Dorsey.
Sun Nov 23 201415:08Dorsey (biceps) inactive for Sunday's game against Washington
Dorsey (biceps) is inactive for Sunday's game against Washington.
After being activated from short-term injured reserve earlier in the week, Dorsey was expected to play Sunday, but instead he'll spend another week in street clothes. The 49ers are a bit thin along the defensive line after the recent loss of Ian Williams to a leg injury.

The 49ers have activated Dorsey (biceps) from IR/designated to return, the Sacramento Bee reports.
The timing of Dorsey's activation coincides with that of fellow nose tackle Ian Williams landing on IR, so Dorsey figures to have a key role in the 49ers' defense out of the gate.
Tue Sep 2 201411:34Dorsey (biceps) expected to be placed on 49ers' injured reserve/...
Dorsey (biceps) is expected to be placed on the 49ers' injured reserve/designated to return list on Tuesday, CSN Bay Area reports.
Dorsey was slated to start at nose tackle before tearing his biceps Aug. 1 and is now expected to miss three-and-a-half months following surgery. With the possibility of returning some time after the mid-season mark, Dorsey will be named San Francisco's designated player to return, ruling him out of practice until after Week 6 and out of games until after Week 8. While Dorsey rehabs, Quinton Dial is expected to open the regular season as the 49ers' starter at nose tackle.

Dorsey (biceps) is expected to miss three and a half months after undergoing successful surgery on August 4, Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports.
The three and a half month timetable is on the short end of the expected recovery from an injury like the one Dorsey sustained, so this is good news for the nose tackle and for the 49ers. Coach Jim Harbaugh is hoping that Dorsey will be ready by late-November to early-December to help out the team down the stretch. He is the leading candidate to be placed in the injured reserve - with a designation to return list. Dorsey recently signed a two-year extension with the 49ers.

Dorsey (biceps) agreed to a two-year contract extension with the 49ers on Tuesday, Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com reports.
Dorsey is uncertain to play in 2014 after tearing his biceps in training camp, but in signing Dorsey to a new deal, they'll be able to ensure he doesn't hit the open market next summer. He'll likely be placed on injured reserve to start the season, but there's a good chance he could be the club's designated player to return if he progresses well in his recovery.

Dorsey (biceps), who will undergo surgery Monday, is at best hoped to be able to return late in the regular season, CSN Bay Area reports.
Dorsey tore the biceps tendon in his left arm during Friday's practice and is now likely to miss the upcoming campaign. Although the 49ers are keeping hope that Dorsey will possibly be able to return toward the end of the season, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio now must find a new starting nose tackle. Ian Williams was slated to fill the role last season, before a lower leg fracture suffered in Week 2 ended his year and resulted in four subsequent surgeries. While Williams still hasn't been cleared to practice, teammates Mike Purcell and Quinton Dial have received reps at nose tackle, where San Francisco will suddenly weigh an important position battle.
Sat Aug 2 201415:50Dorsey (torn biceps) will be evaluated over next few days
Dorsey (torn biceps) will be evaluated over the next few days, and he has not yet been ruled out for the season, CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco reports.
It can safely be assumed that Dorsey will miss a good chunk of the year, but he may still stand a chance to make a late-season return. With Ian Williams still out indefinitely more than 10 months after suffering a broken ankle, Quinton Dial will likely get the first shot to replace Dorsey on the first-team defense.
Sat Aug 2 201413:59Glenn Dorsey: Out For Year With Torn Biceps
Dorsey (arm) is out for the season with a torn biceps, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Dorsey was slated to start at nose tackle, but the 49ers may now turn to either Ian Williams (ankle) or Quinton Dial. Williams opened last season as the starter, then landed on IR in September with a broken ankle. Dorsey filled in effectively, but the job may now swing back to Williams, who is currently on the preseason PUP list while recovering from the same injury. Dial, a 2013 fifth-round selection, barely saw the field as a rookie. In light of Williams' slow recovery and Dial's lack of experience, the Niners may explore an external solution.
Sat Aug 2 201401:24Dorsey suffered arm injury Friday and had to leave training camp
Dorsey suffered an arm injury Friday and had to leave training camp, CSN Bay Area reports.
The extent of the injury was not disclosed, but this is obviously worrisome considering Dorsey was penciled in to be the starting nose tackle for the 49ers this season. He will have the arm examined and severity of the injury should be updated soon. Mike Purcell filled in for Dorsey at nose tackle during practice and Quinton Dial and Tony Jerod-Eddie are the likely replacements should Dorsey's injury keep him out for an extended period.
Mon Mar 25 201311:4749ers give Dorsey no assurances on position
The 49ers gave DL Glenn Dorsey no assurances on his role when they signed him to a two-year, $6 million deal on March 13.
"No, I'm coming into it trying to play whatever they want me to play," he said. "I don't have no set spot." Dorsey is penciled in (lightly) at nose tackle, but at 6-foot-1 and just over 300 pounds, it's not an ideal position in the Niners' 3-4. The 49ers would prefer Dorsey to fill Ricky Jean-Francois' shoes as a utility lineman capable of backing up all three positions up front.

Fri Mar 15 201314:3149ers plan to play Glenn Dorsey at nose
The 49ers plan to play newly signed Glenn Dorsey at nose tackle in their 3-4.
At 6-foot-1 and just over 300 pounds, Dorsey will be an undersized nose tackle in the Jay Ratliff mold. The 49ers will likely give him plenty of penetrating opportunities as opposed to using Dorsey as a two-gap plugger. Dorsey's two-year deal is worth $6 million. He received a $2.285 million signing bonus.

Wed Mar 13 201315:2649ers sign former No. 5 pick DE Dorsey
49ers agreed to terms with DE Glenn Dorsey, formerly of the Chiefs.
Dorsey made San Francisco his lone free-agent visit. The Chiefs initially wanted him back, but they went out and signed DL Mike DeVito on Tuesday. Dorsey is a quality run defender, and he'll slide into the role vacated by free agent DL Ricky Jean-Francois, acting as the top backup at the end spots.

Tue Mar 12 201317:16Glenn Dorsey to visit the 49ers
Free agent DE Glenn Dorsey will visit the 49ers.
Fellow free agent DL Ricky Jean-Francois appears headed out of San Francisco, so Dorsey may be pegged as his replacement. He's a fine run defender, but we like the idea of Dorsey as a tackle in a 4-3 better.

Sun Mar 10 201321:19Chiefs 'really trying' to re-sign Dorsey
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Chiefs are "really trying" to re-sign free agent DE Glenn Dorsey.
La Canfora considers Dorsey "likely" to stay in K.C. We'd prefer to see Dorsey get an opportunity to rush the passer from a three-technique position in a 4-3. If he hits the market, Dorsey could make sense as the No. 3 tackle in Detroit.

Sun Nov 11 201214:10Chiefs put DE Glenn Dorsey on injured reserve
Chiefs placed DE Glenn Dorsey (calf) on injured reserve, ending his season.
The transaction also may end Dorsey's career in Kansas City. Done for the year due to a recurring calf injury, Dorsey has also battled a bad knee and was essentially a non-factor in 2012. 27-year-old Dorsey's rookie contract is up after the season, and he'll be eligible for unrestricted free agency in March.

Mon Nov 5 201211:08Glenn Dorsey's time with Chiefs is up?
The Kansas City Star believes DE Glenn Dorsey will not be back with the Chiefs next season.
Dorsey is sidelined by a calf injury once again and is out indefinitely. After this season, his rookie contract will be up and the Chiefs are unlikely to pay the man they made the No. 5 overall pick in the 2008 draft. Dorsey is a better fit as a tackle in a 4-3 scheme.
