With Alex Boone still holding out for a new contract, Looney is the front runner to start at right guard for the 49ers' first preseason game Thursday, CSN Bay Area reports.

Looney has looked good in training camp and he will likely be the starting right guard for the 49ers this season if Alex Boone does not end his holdout. The 2012 fourth-round draft pick has only played in one regular season game, but he did not allow a sack, hit, or hurry in 62 snaps.
