McDonald is off to a slow start compared to last season, as he has only 17 tackles in three games. His 100-plus tackles from last season may have been an outlier unless he can start to produce more.

Such verbiage implies that McDonald is dealing with a personal concern rather than an ailment. With no mandatory minicamp on the Rams' offseason docket, his availability will become more clear if he's absent for the start of training camp. As his third NFL season approaches, he'll aim to build upon his 104 tackles, two sacks, one interception, and one fumble recovery from a year ago.

Quintin Mikell racked up 101 tackles and four forced fumbles at the same position in 2012.
