Evans appears to have a firm grasp on the starting free safety job after Winston Guy was cut Monday, the Florida Times-Union reports.
The Jags parted ways with Guy after a string of poor performances to open the season, which should leave Evans as the unquestioned starter. Evans, whose foot injury opened the door for Guy to start, replaced Guy in the second half of the Indianapolis game in Week 3 and started Week 4's loss to San Diego. On the season, Evans has 26 combined tackles and one pass defended.

Evans has fully recovered from a foot injury suffered during minicamp, Florida Today reports. The safety recorded an interception in Thursday's preseason loss to the Bears.

He returned the pick eight yards and also recorded a solo tackle on the night. Evans will continue to battle Winston Guy for a primary role as the preseason wears on.
