Sun Sep 112:02Jake Fraley Reinstated And Starting On Sunday
The Cincinnati Reds reinstated outfielder Jake Fraley (knee) from the 10-day injured list on Sunday and designated right-hander David Buchanan for assignment in a corresponding move. The team also activated left-hander Brent Suter (shoulder) from the 15-day IL and left-hander Brandon Williamson (shoulder) from the 60-day IL. Fraley is right back in the starting lineup in the series finale against the division-rival Milwaukee Brewers and right-hander Tobias Myers, starting in right field and batting sixth in the order. The 29-year-old left-handed-hitting outfielder will return to a platoon role in Cincy's outfield now that he's recovered from his knee sprain and can be useful down the stretch for his speed (16 steals this year). Fraley has battled an assortment of injuries in 2024 and only has 273 total at-bats, hitting .271 with three homers and 23 RBI.

Tue Aug 2722:44Jake Fraley On Track To Return This Saturday
Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell said that outfielder Jake Fraley (knee) is on track to return from the 10-day injured when he's first eligible this Saturday. "He's still on track to get back the day he's available to come back. He had a knee sprain. He had a couple issues in there. Whatever they were able to give to him to help calm that down could help him get back hitting by the end of the week. The 31st is the first day he's eligible to come back," Bell said. Fraley will return to the strong side of a platoon in right field for the Reds against right-handed pitching, giving him some value in deeper fantasy leagues, mainly for his speed. The 29-year-old left-handed hitter has been battling various injuries for most of 2024 and has hit .271 (74-for-273) with 16 steals but only three homers and 23 RBI in 92 games played. He's hit .233 (10-for-43) with two doubles, four RBI, two steals and 11 K's in 14 games in August.

Thu Aug 2216:04Jake Fraley Lands On 10-Day Injured List
The Cincinnati Reds announced on Thursday that they placed outfielder Jake Fraley (knee) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Aug. 21) with a right-knee sprain and signed first baseman Dominic Smith to a one-year major-league deal in a corresponding move. The club also designated right-hander Brooks Kriske for assignment. Fraley will require yet another trip to the IL in an injury-plagued 2024 season for the 29-year-old left-handed swinger. The move comes after he was scratched from Wednesday's lineup. In his absence, the lefty-hitting Will Benson figures to see more playing time in the outfield, at least against right-handed pitching. Benson, a former first-rounder, has plenty of power to spare but is hitting just .189 (57-for-302), adding 12 homers and 14 steals. Eleven of his 12 dingers in 2024 have come against righties.

Wed Aug 2119:06Jake Fraley Scratched With Knee Sprain
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (knee) has been scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre due to a knee sprain. Will Benson draws into the starting lineup in right field and will hit eighth in place of Fraley against Blue Jays rookie right-hander Yariel Rodriguez. Fraley, who has missed time with various injuries throughout the year, could need another trip to the injured list, depending on the severity of his knee sprain. The 29-year-old left-handed hitter has been a batting average (.271) and speed (16 stolen bases) contributor for fantasy managers in deeper leagues in 2024, but he lacks power (three homers) and has only driven in 23 runs in 92 games. Benson, who also hits from the left side, could gain more playing time if Fraley lands on the IL again. The 26-year-old has decent power and speed for a platoon guy with 12 homers and 14 steals despite hitting .191 (12-for-57).

Tue Aug 1310:04Jake Fraley Swipes Two Bags
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley stole a pair of bases in Monday's 6-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals, bringing his total to 16. Fraley finished 1-for-2 with two runs scored and a walk and is batting .280/.330/.378 with three homers, 21 RBI, and 35 runs scored while going 16-for-21 in steals. Fraley is a good asset for stolen bases and benefits from playing on a Reds team that leads the majors with 167 total steals. Fantasy managers in need of swipes and can sacrifice some power will be wise to look in Fraley's direction.

Fri Aug 922:38Jake Fraley Suffers Ankle Sprain On Friday
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (ankle) left Friday's game early against the hosting division-rival Milwaukee Brewers with a left-ankle sprain, according to the team. Before hitting the showers early, Fraley ground out to shortstop in his only at-bat in the second inning before being replaced in right field by Stuart Fairchild in the fourth inning. Fraley will likely be sent for tests on his ankle, but for now, fantasy managers should consider the left-handed-hitting outfielder to be day-to-day. Even if it's not a serious injury, the 29-year-old is unlikely to play on Saturday in Milwaukee. If Fraley needs a trip to the 10-day injured list because of his ankle injury, Fairchild would be the one to benefit from extra playing time. Fraley came into Friday's contest hitting a solid .282 (70-for-248) on the year with 14 stolen bases, but injuries have limited him to only 83 games played in 2024.

Sat Aug 316:16Jake Fraley Heads To Bench Saturday
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley will take a seat on the bench Saturday night against the San Francisco Giants and left-handed starter Kyle Harrison. Fraley often sits against left-handed starters. Stuart Fairchild will play right field and hit eighth in place of Fraley. The veteran outfielder is hitting .278 with three home runs, 19 RBI, 14 stolen bases and 30 runs scored in 250 plate appearances on the season. Fraley may not get back into the lineup on Sunday, either, when the Reds face another lefty in Robbie Ray.

Thu Aug 110:48Jake Fraley Homers In Loss
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and a walk in Wednesday's 13-4 loss to the Cubs. The 29-year-old is on the strong side of a platoon and while he's hit well when given the opportunity, it was just the third home run of the season for the left-handed hitter. Fraley's fantasy value comes from his wheels, stealing 14 bags so far in 2024 (also caught stealing five times). For the season, the Louisiana State product now has a .278-3-19-30-14 line with a .312 wOBA and 96 wRC+ in 250 plate appearances, which only makes him rosterable in very deep leagues.

Thu Jul 2507:25Jake Fraley Goes Yard In Victory
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley put together a big day in Wednesday's contest versus the Atlanta Braves. The outfielder went 3-for-5 in the contest with a two-run homer to help lead the Reds to victory. The left-hander has been a platoon bat for the Reds this season, but has been effective when given the opportunity to play. For the season, Fraley is hitting a solid .282 with two homers, 16 RBI and 13 stolen bases over 216 at-bats. With his limited playing time, he can safely remain on the waiver wire for now.

Wed Jul 1019:33Jake Fraley Back With Reds
The Cincinnati Reds activated outfielder Jake Fraley from the family medical emergency list on Wednesday and optioned outfielder Blake Dunn to Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move. Because of his personal leave and a calf injury, Fraley hasn't played for the Reds since July 4, and he wasn't included in the starting lineup for Wednesday's contest against the visiting Colorado Rockies, either, with a left-hander on the mound. But now that the 29-year-old left-handed hitter is back, he should play regularly in right field or as the designated hitter against righties, especially with Nick Martini (thumb) and TJ Friedl (hamstring) on the injured list. Rookie Rece Hinds, who has gotten off to a roaring start in his first two big-league games, made the start in right field on Wednesday. The biggest loser will likely be the left-handed-hitting Will Benson now that Fraley is back in the fold.

Fri Jul 516:20Jake Fraley Placed On Family Medical Emergency List
The Cincinnati Reds placed outfielder Jake Fraley on the family medical emergency list on Friday and called up first baseman Edwin Rios from the minors in a corresponding move. The Reds also placed catcher Luke Maile (back) on the 10-day injured list with a herniated disc in his back and recalled catcher Austin Wynns from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move. Fraley could miss anywhere from the next three to seven days, so fantasy managers must adjust accordingly moving forward. Nick Martini is starting in left field and batting fifth on Friday, while Will Benson is in right field and hitting eighth against Detroit Tigers right-hander Reese Olson. The 29-year-old Fraley is useful in deep-mixed fantasy leagues against right-handed pitchers, mostly for his speed (12 steals). He's hit just one home run and driven in 12 in 194 at-bats in 2024.

Tue Jul 216:25Jake Fraley Sitting Against Right-Hander
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley is not in the starting lineup for the Reds on Tuesday against the New York Yankees in the Bronx, even with a right-hander on the mound. Nick Martini, Stuart Fairchild and Will Benson are starting from left to right field in this one, with Martini batting sixth, Fairchild in the eight-hole and Benson hitting ninth against Yankees right-hander Luis Gil. It appears to just be a day of rest for Fraley, who hit .266/.324/.313 with no homers, three doubles, two RBI and two stolen bases in 20 games in the month of June. The 29-year-old left-handed-hitting outfielder also has 11 total stolen bases on the year, but his fantasy value in mixed leagues remains limited as a platoon player who has been injured off and on this year. Fraley has managed just one homer and nine RBI in 2024.

Sat Jun 2912:20Jake Fraley Returns Against Cardinals
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (calf) is back in right field and is batting in the cleanup spot for the Reds on Saturday against the division-rival St. Louis Cardinals and right-hander Sonny Gray. Fraley was scratched from Wednesday's lineup with a bruised calf but will return to action on Saturday after missing each of the last three games. The 29-year-old left-handed-hitting outfielder has never faced Gray in his career, but he's a notorious righty killer and is hitting in the heart of the batting order. He's currently sitting on a career-best .277 batting average (51-for-184) this year with 11 stolen bases, but he has just one home run and nine RBI on the year. Fraley has actually been slightly better against lefties in 2024, but he's hitting .272 (41-for-151) with eight doubles and a triple against right-handers.

Fri Jun 2818:22Jake Fraley Absent Again
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (calf) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Friday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. The 29-year-old was scratched from Wednesday's lineup and sat out of Thursday's contest as well. He underwent an MRI exam to determine the severity of the injury, but the results aren't known yet. For now, fantasy managers should consider Fraley as day-to-day until further notice. Nick Martini, Will Benson, and Stuart Fairchild will cover the outfield for Friday's game.

Thu Jun 2718:32Jake Fraley Sitting Out On Thursday
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (calf) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Thursday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. This doesn't come as much of a surprise after Fraley was scratched from Wednesday's lineup due to a lower leg contusion. He underwent an MRI on his right calf on Thursday, but he's still waiting for the results. There should be more information on his status soon. For now, fantasy managers can consider Fraley as day-to-day but that could change. Will Benson will cover right field and bat eighth versus right-hander Miles Mikolas on Thursday.

Wed Jun 2612:34Jake Fraley Scratched With Leg Contusion
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (leg) has been scratched from Wednesday's starting lineup against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates with a right lower-leg contusion. Fraley fouled a ball off his leg a few days ago and is still being bothered by it, so he'll take a seat in the series finale. Consider him day-to-day for now and check back to see if he's back in the lineup for Thursday's series opener in St. Louis against the division-rival Cardinals. With Fraley out on Wednesday, Levi Jordan will draw into the lineup in left field and will bat ninth for the Reds against Pirates right-hander Luis L. Ortiz. Fraley can't seem to stay healthy this year but has been valuable to fantasy managers in deeper leagues against right-handed pitching with his .277 average (51-for-184) with 11 stolen bases.

Fri May 2416:30Jake Fraley Still Out Against Dodgers
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (hand) will not return to action on Friday for the start of a series against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers and left-hander James Paxton. Even if Fraley were ready to go after taking a pitch off his hand during a game against the San Diego Padres earlier this week, he'd likely be on the bench on Friday against a southpaw. The 28-year-old is still dealing with some swelling in his hand but was used as a pinch-runner recently and could get back in the starting lineup later this weekend against a right-hander. When healthy, Fraley is nice for outfield depth in deeper fantasy leagues for his prowess against righties. Rookie Jacob Hurtubise is starting in right field and batting ninth for the Reds on Friday against Paxton. Hurtubise has only three hits in his first 14 MLB at-bats this year and is low-upside dart throw in DFS.

Thu May 2313:25Jake Fraley Still Has Swelling In His Hand
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (hand) still has swelling on the outside of his right hand after being hit by a pitch on Tuesday. Fraley said he was going to try and take some swings to test it on Thursday, but he remained out of the starting lineup for the series finale versus the visiting San Diego Padres. X-rays came back negative on the 28-year-old left-handed hitter's hand, so he's considered day-to-day for now. If Fraley feels better while testing his hand on Thursday, he could return to the lineup at some point this weekend for a series against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers. When healthy, Fraley is an option for fantasy managers in deeper leagues and in DFS lineups against right-handed pitching. The former second-rounder by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2016 out of LSU is currently hitting .272/.333/.359 with a homer, seven RBI and seven steals in 103 at-bats.

Wed May 2214:46Jake Fraley Not In Reds Lineup
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (hand) is not in the team's starting lineup for the second game of the series on Wednesday against the visiting San Diego Padres. Fraley was hit by a pitch on his right hand in the first inning of Tuesday's win over the Friars and was forced to leave the contest. The good news is that X-rays came back negative, but Fraley will take a seat for this one and yield right-field duties to Nick Martini, who was recalled from the minors on Tuesday. Martini is hitting seventh in the batting order against Padres right-hander Michael King. Fantasy managers that have been deploying Fraley in starting lineups will need to bench him and check back on Thursday to see if he's active for the series finale. Martini comes into Wednesday's game hitting just .177 (14-for-79) with three homers and 15 RBI this year for the Reds.

Tue May 2121:36X-Rays Negative On Jake Fraley's Hand
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (hand) left Tuesday's game against the visiting San Diego Padres after being hit in the right hand by a pitch in the first inning. X-rays were negative for a fracture, but Fraley has swelling and will get looked at on Wednesday. Stuart Fairchild entered the game, and he would be in line for an uptick in at-bats in Cincy's outfield if Fraley needs to miss additional time beyond Tuesday. The 28-year-old Fraley is slashing a modest .272/.333/.359 with 17 runs scored and seven stolen bases through 103 at-bats in 2024, but he's going through a power outage with just one home run and seven RBI in 36 games. Consider the right fielder day-to-day ahead of Wednesday's meeting with San Diego, but it's fair to expect Fraley to get at least one day off with the injury.
