Wed Sep 1100:08Keider Montero Fires Complete-Game Shutout Tuesday
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Keider Montero was on his game in Tuesday's 11-0 win over the Rockies. Montero took advantage of a favorable matchup inside his home park, tossing a complete-game shutout with three hits, no walks, and five strikeouts. The 24-year-old's season numbers leave something to be desired but he has pitched better in the second half. Specifically, he has gone 4-2 with a 3.69 ERA in eight starts from August onward. He will face a much tougher matchup in his next start against the Orioles. While he has pitched better, fantasy managers may not want to risk starting him in such a tough matchup so deep into the season.

Wed Aug 709:10Keider Montero Racks Up Eight K's
Detroit Tigers rookie starting pitcher Keider Montero put together his best start of his big-league career on Tuesday versus the Seattle Mariners. Making his eighth start of his big-league career, the 24-year-old tossed six scoreless innings and allowed four hits, one hit, one run and eight strikeouts. The eight strikeouts would be a career-high for Montero. Although it was an encouraging outing for Montero, managers should temper their expectation moving forward as he still has a 5.62 ERA over nine outings (eight starts). Montero will look to keep the positive trend going when in his next matchup on the road against the San Francisco Giants. For now, he can be left on the waiver wire.

Thu Jul 408:45Keider Montero Nabs First Victory
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Keider Montero threw 6 1/3 innings versus the Twins and allowed six hits, two runs, one walk and struck out four to earn his first big-league victory on Wednesday. It was his best performance as a big leaguer by a landslide, in his third appearance as he replaced starting pitcher Casey Mize (hamstring) in the rotation. Montero is the Tigers seventh ranked prospect per MLB Pipeline and is expected to remain in the rotation with Mize on the shelf. Despite his strong performance on Wednesday, Montero figures to be more of a streamer in favorable matchups. Montero is projected to face the Cleveland Guardians his next time out and can be avoided in that contest.

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Keider Montero has been recalled ahead of Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Twins. The 23-year-old will slide into the rotation with Casey Mize (hamstring) heading to the injured list. Montero has already made two appearances with the Tigers this season. Neither of them went overly well considering he holds an ugly 9.45 ERA across 8 2/3 innings. Montero won't be a recommended streaming option ahead of Wednesday's game.

Tue Jul 212:30Keider Montero Likely To Join The Tigers
Detroit Tigers pitching prospect Keider Montero was scheduled to start for Triple-A Toledo on Monday night before he was a late scratch. The Mud Hens went with a bullpen game instead. Meanwhile, right-hander Casey Mize (hamstring) will be placed on the 15-day injured list a left-hamstring strain, according to manager A.J. Hinch, so Montero figures to be the one to replace him in the Tigers' starting rotation through the All-Star break in mid-July. Montero, the club's No. 7 prospect per MLB Pipeline, struggled in his first 8 2/3 innings earlier this year in the majors, allowing nine earned runs on 10 hits while walking four and striking out 11 in two appearances (one start). The 23-year-old's second big-league start figures to come this weekend on the road in Cincinnati against the Reds. Montero features high spin rates on his breaking pitches but will need to control them and limit the homers to find success at the next level.UPDATE: Montero is scheduled to start on Wednesday against the Minnesota Twins.

Thu May 3009:13Keider Montero Demoted After Making Debut
After making his big-league debut in Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader, the Detroit Tigers have sent pitching prospect Keider Montero back to Triple-A Toledo. It was an expected move for the club's No. 7 prospect, according to MLB.com. Montero worked 4 1/3 innings in his debut and was a bag of mixed results. Montero recorded five strikeouts, but also allowed five hits, four runs and one walk. Montero, 23, remains a bright spot on the farm for the Tigers, but will need an injury or two to make an impact at the big-league level in 2024. Montero can safely remain on the waiver wire.

Tue May 2822:21Keider Montero Coming Up For Wednesday's Doubleheader
According to a source, the Detroit Tigers are calling up pitching prospect Keider Montero from Triple-A Toledo to be the 27th man on Wednesday for their doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Nothing is official yet, but it looks like Detroit's No. 7 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, will make his major-league debut on Wednesday in a spot start in one of the games of a doubleheader after Tuesday's contest in Pittsburgh was rained out. Montero is getting his first major-league call-up after going 0-1 with a 4.40 ERA and 1.47 WHIP with 17 walks and 36 strikeouts over 30 2/3 innings and nine starts for Toledo. The 23-year-old Venezuelan hurler can spin the ball with the best of them, but his struggles to control his secondary pitches and his vulnerability to the long ball will make him a risky fantasy streaming option in his MLB debut. And there's a good chance he'll be sent back to Toledo after Wednesday's game.
