Tue Jun 17 2014 | 01:57 | Murphy's Law: Donnie has two HRs in victory |
Donnie Murphy came out of nowhere to slam two homers in the Rangers' 14-8 shootout victory over the A's on Monday. |
Donnie "Babe Ruth" Murphy, the Oakland television broadcast team joked. Murphy's fourth inning two-run homer put the Rangers ahead 4-2. The second one, sliced down the right field line off Fernando Abad in the ninth, scarcely snuck by the foul poll on descent and helped to put an exclamation point on a wild offensive affair. This was fun and all, but Murphy hadn't collected a hit since June 1 coming into tonight. The utility man does have a bit of pop (.392 career slugging percentage; 11 homers last year in limited at-bats), but he's batting just .216 in 102 at-bats. |
