Treanor, 38, had been in extended spring training with the Indians on a minor league deal. He hadn't played since 2012 and will retire with a career .221/.313/.305 batting line across parts of nine big league seasons. |

Treanor was placed on MLB's new 7-day disabled list after suffering a concussion in a collision with Indians' first baseman Matt LaPorta on July 30. "It's not up to us," said Royals manager Ned Yost. "MLB has a very strict standard on [its] testing. They've got 10 different criteria that you have to pass and, four or five days ago, he flunked eight of the 10. He came back yesterday and only flunked two of the 10. Until you get 10 for 10, they're not going to OK you for any type of playing." Yost believes it will be another five days before the veteran backstop is tested again. |
