Feliz gave up one run on two hits and a walk over one inning Tuesday against the Royals in a non-save situation.

He came into a tie game in the ninth inning and gave up the lead, but the Rangers then evened the score in the bottom of the ninth only to lose in extra innings. Prior to Tuesday's outing Feliz had notched saves in each of his last three appearances, so he should still be the Rangers' closer going forward.

Feliz struck out two in a perfect ninth to pick up his fourth save in Thursday's win over the Rays.

Feliz is off to a rocky start, with a 4.38 ERA and two blown saves in six chances, but he was perfect Thursday as he was in his previous outing Monday. The 27-year-old hasn't given up a run in his last three outings, and his role as the Rangers' closer is secure.

Feliz reached 95 mph in his appearance Sunday and has yet to allow a run in four appearances this spring, the team's web site reports.

Feliz doesn't have the flashy peripherals he did five years ago, but the increased velocity this spring from what he showed last September does bode well for a nice bounce-back season.

Feliz and the Rangers agreed to a one-year, $4.125 million contract to avoid arbitration, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Feliz figures to open 2015 as the Rangers' closer, but while he posted an 1.99 ERA over 31.2 innings last year, he managed a strikeout rate of just 17.2 percent. His velocity was way down from its 2010 peak, so it would be wise to keep an eye on spring training reports.

Feliz was unavailable out of the bullpen Tuesday, and Neal Cotts logged the save for the Rangers against the Astros.

Feliz threw 31 pitches over the previous two days, so the Rangers gave him the night off, but he should available for the next Rangers save that presents itself.

Feliz is 7-for-8 in save opportunities, but the lack of strikeouts and velocity lost after coming back from Tommy John surgery is a little worrisome for a closer.

Feliz came in with the Rangers up three but a one-out home run by Jared Saltalamacchia followed a lead off home run by Marcell Ozuna to bring the Marlins within one. After walking Christian Yelich, Feliz got Donovan Solano swinging to escape with the win.

The ninth-inning job in Texas is Feliz's to lose, and he'll need to continue throwing his fastball in the mid-90s in order to push his strikeout rate up from the current 4.5 K/9 mark.

Feliz carried a 2.03 ERA into the contest, but his 5:4 K:BB through 13.1 innings was rather concerning. While he does own a decent swinging-strike rate (8.9) for the season, his average fastball velocity clocked in at just 91.4 mph in Saturday's game. The Rangers have little to play for and will likely allow Feliz to continue in his role as closer, but this isn't the same guy we saw in 2010 and 2011. And, it's not as if that guy was particularly dominant, as Feliz has never delivered on the promise of his 31-inning 2009 campaign.

For now, he's locked in as the closer.

Even though he topped out at 92 mph tonight, Feliz struck out Mark Teixeira on three pitches and got Carlos Beltran to hit a first-pitch popup. Chase Headley then got ahold of a slider, but first baseman Adam Rosales went up and made a leaping catch, ending the game. Feliz's stuff still isn't where we'd like, but the results have been excellent so far.

Soria was dealt to the Tigers on Wednesday night for right-handed pitching prospects Jake Thompson and Corey Knebel. Feliz is still working to regain his dominant raw stuff, but he owns a cool 2.61 ERA and 0.77 WHIP in 10 1/3 innings of relief since rejoining the Rangers' active roster on July 4. The 26-year-old right-hander needs to be owned in all standard fantasy leagues even though his save opportunities may be few and far between for a Rangers team that has clearly mailed it in.
