Houston Astros outfielder Michael Brantley was removed in the sixth inning of Sunday's season finale against the Oakland Athletics. Yordan Alvarez came in to replace him in left field. Brantley finished the game 0-for-2, dropping his season-long batting average slightly to .311. The 34-year-old veteran was a key cog in one of the league's best lineups this year. He of course gave fantasy managers a solid boost in batting average, but his counting stats were a bit underwhelming. He had eight home runs, 68 runs and 47 RBI over 121 games.

Thu Sep 23 202122:08Michael Brantley "Progressing Slowly" From Knee Injury
Houston Astros outfielder Michael Brantley (knee) is progressing slowly in his attempt to return from a knee injury. "He's progressing slowly," said manager Dusty Baker. "He was progressing rapidly, but he's kind of hit a lull in the action. So it's going to take a little bit longer than we thought or we had hoped." The 34-year-old has been sidelined since September 12 with a knee issue and remains day-to-day. Brantley is eligible to come off the injured list, but it's unclear exactly when he will be ready to return. Fantasy managers can continue to stash the Astros outfielder but should look for alternatives with the season about to end in a few weeks.

Wed Sep 22 202108:18Michael Brantley Unlikely To Return When First Eligible
Houston Astros outfielder Michael Brantley (knee) is eligible to be activated from the injured list on Wednesday, but Astros manager Dusty Baker believes he'll need more time to recover first. The 34-year-old veteran has been out since September 11 with a sore knee. Brantley went through workouts prior to the team's game against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday. However, Baker told reporters that Brantley still needs to run the bases and go through more batting practice before returning. He's close to a return, but it may not be until later this week or over the weekend. Over 116 games on the year, Brantley is slashing .315/.367/.441 with eight home runs, 45 RBI and 68 runs.

Sun Sep 12 202111:50Michael Brantley Out Of Lineup Sunday
Houston Astros outfielder Michael Brantley will get a scheduled day off against the Los Angeles Angels Sunday. Yordan Alvarez will shift from designated hitter to left field, and Aledmys Diaz will step in as the DH. Brantley's bat has not been as potent of late, as he's slashed .265/.320/.310 with just one home run over his last 30 games. With just eight homers and 45 RBI on the season, Brantley is more of a solid floor play, which is certainly not what fantasy managers expected at draft time. Mon Sep 6 202117:30Michael Brantley Not In Lineup Monday

Brantley also is not a favorable DFS option against lefties, slashing only .226/.271/.327 against them this season. Fri Sep 3 202117:24Michael Brantley Heating Up Again
Houston Astros outfielder Michael Brantley is trending in the right direction offensively heading into the team's weekend series against the Padres in San Diego. Over his last five games, the veteran is 8-for-22 (.363) with three runs batted in. Brantley dealt with injuries during the month of August and hit only .263 during that span. But Brantley could be locking back in at the plate and will have very strong DFS appeal this weekend. Through 55 games on the road this season, Brantley is slashing a robust .366/.412/.528 this season.

Brantley is batting .314 on the year, which is fifth best in the majors amongst qualified hitters. However, he's hitless over his last three games. He's gone 0-for-11 with four walks and one strikeout over the three-game stretch and he's slashing just .247/.318/.351 over August as a whole. He hasn't provided much power all year with just eight home runs over 104 games on the season, but he should continue to give fantasy managers a solid boost in batting average and runs scored going forward.
