Mon Mar 30 201516:23Gilmartin expected to make Opening Day roster
Gilmartin is expected to make the Opening Day roster, Matt Ehalt of The Record reports.
The Mets acquired a pair of left-handers Monday, but it appears Gilmartin is still viewed favorably as a bullpen option. He's made 10 appearances this spring, posting a 5.19 ERA while striking out 11 batters over 8.2 cumulative innings.

Gilmartin retired both batters he faced Sunday.
Gilmartin and Dario Alvarez are the only two bullpen lefties left in camp for the Mets. It's possible both come north with the team, though the team is still exploring the trade and post-roster waiver list options to find a lefty for the pen.

Gilmartin had his fourth straight scoreless outing Friday against the Cardinals.
Gilmartin is making a strong late push to head north with the Mets as their main lefty reliever. New York is still exploring deals, with rumored interest in Brian Matusz and Rex Brothers among others, so even if Gilmartin makes the team, it may be short-lived. But for now, he may have a lead for the role as lefty in the pen.

Gilmartin had his second straight solid outing, throwing 1.1 scoreless innings Wednesday against the Yankees.
Gilmartin faced the Yankees on Sunday, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings. With the Mets having a gaping hole as a lefty reliever following the loss of Josh Edgin (Tommy John), Gilmartin was being consisderd for that role. He had a rough start to the spring, but as noted, has rebounded his last two efforts. Gilmartin is a Rule 5 pick, so would have to be returned if he does not make the Mets, but his last two outings has likely improved his chances to stick with the team.

Gilmartin, taken by the Mets in the Rule 5 draft, struggled again Monday.
Gilmartin allowed one run on three hits in just two-thirds of an inning, surrendering back-to-back doubles to open the eighth. He has been given a chance to make the club with Josh Edgin needing Tommy John surgery, but Gilmartin is failing to take advantage, posting a 10.38 ERA so far this spring.

The Mets selected Gilmartin with the 10th pick in Thursday's Rule 5 draft.
The Twins were hoping for a bounce-back from Gilmartin, a former first-round pick, when they traded for him from Atlanta last December. Things were looking promising early on, as Gilmartin posted a 3.12 ERA and 74:16 K:BB in 12 starts with Double-A New Britain to begin the year, but he struggled once again with the move up to Triple-A in mid-June. His overall body of work wasn't enough to warrant protection from the Rule 5 draft, and it's hard to imagine he'll crack the rotation in New York anytime soon given their abundance of quality starting pitching.
Wed Dec 18 201315:41Twins pick up LHP Gilmartin for Ryan Doumit
Twins acquired LHP Sean Gilmartin from the Braves for C/OF Ryan Doumit.
Although not as gratifying as the 1991 World Series result, Minnesota will take the win here. The Twins didn't want to pay Doumit's $3.5 million salary next season, and now they won't have to. This transaction is great news for AL-only owners sniffing around Jason Kubel's 2014 sleeper potential, as Doumit would have been his primary competition for DH at-bats. Gilmartin might remind Twins fans of a more polished Scott Diamond, if you'll forgive the pun. The 2011 first-round pick is a southpaw with subpar velocity who pounds the strike zone with good movement. The Twins can let him marinate at Triple-A Rochester next summer because it has four veteran starters under contract and a host of fifth starter candidates already in place.

Wed Dec 18 201315:04Twins to receive Gilmartin for Doumit
The Twins will receive pitching prospect Sean Gilmartin from the Braves in return for Ryan Doumit, according to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal.
A 2011 first-round pick, Gilmartin shot all the way up to Triple-A in his first full professional campaign. He was blasted this past at Gwinnett, however, going 3-8 with a 5.74 ERA. Gilmartin doesn't have great stuff, but he pounds the strike zone with a three-pitch arsenal. Minnesota, which is desperate for starting pitching of any kind, did well to acquire a lottery ticket for a player they no longer wanted.

Sun Mar 24 201311:06Braves make a couple cuts
Braves reassigned LHP Sean Gilmartin and RHP Wirfin Obispo to minor league camp.
Neither had a real shot to crack the Opening Day roster. One of the club's top pitching prospects, Gilmartin will be part of Triple-A Gwinnett's rotation.

Sat Apr 7 201223:43Gilmartin dominant in Double-A debut
Braves prospect Sean Gilmartin pitched six shutout innings Saturday, allowing only two hits in his debut for Double-A Mississippi.
He did not strike out or walk any hitters in the game, throwing 43 of his 71 pitches for strikes. Gilmartin, a 21-year-old left-hander, was the Braves' first-round selection (28th overall) in the 2011 draft.
