RHP Trevor May had his scheduled bullpen session pushed back to Tuesday after he did some mechanical work on Saturday. If things go well early in the week, May could return to the Twins without a rehab assignment. May has been on the 15-day disabled list since June 10 because of back spasms.

With an excellent start by Tyler Duffey on Saturday and Tommy Milone (flexor strain) set to return from the DL on Sunday, May's appears to be the odd man out of the rotation once more. The 25-year-old spent nearly a month in the bullpen after losing his spot in the rotation due to the return of Ervin Santana, only to make a spot start Friday in which he gave up two runs in three innings of work. May's was terrific during his time in the pen, putting together a 2.51 ERA in 14 innings of work, but he could be back in a starting role if one of the starters succumbs to an injury.

May (8-8) pitched just three innings while taking the loss against the Indians, surrendering two runs on five hits and striking out two.

May was expected to pitch limited innings after working from the bullpen over the past month. He was solid on Friday save for a two-run homer by Giovanny Urshela in the second. With Phil Hughes on the disabled list, May is a good bet to get another start, though he may, again, be limited in how deep he can go.

May will start Friday's game against the Indians but he will be limited to roughly 50 pitches, the Star Tribune's Phil Miller reports.

However, May is expected to stick in the rotation for at least another start after Friday's game, so this will not be simply a spot start.
