The Los Angeles Dodgers designated pitcher Jim Johnson for assignment Wednesday.
The Los Angeles Dodgers designated pitcher Jim Johnson for assignment Wednesday. Johnson had success with the Atlanta Braves prior to being acquired before the trade deadline, compiling a 2.25 ERA in 49 games, but he struggled in his time with the Dodgers, allowing 21 earned runs in 18.2 innings. "I wish I could answer that,” Dodgers manager Don Mattingly told the Los Angeles Times when asked why Johnson was unable to find success. “There were times I felt he threw the ball really well and then there were times he got hit pretty good. And then there were some times that I felt like he was really just a little bit unlucky. He did have some very good games for us and helped us out of situations that were very important. It just came down to we felt other guys were better options. It wasn’t about Jim not really doing anything.” Johnson had back-to-back 50 save seasons in 2012 and 2013 as a member of the Baltimore Orioles.

Johnson allowed one earned run in a one-inning appearance in Sunday's loss to the Rockies.
Johnson had been away from the team for a few days following the birth of his child, but he should be back with the squad for the rest of the campaign. He will continue pitching in middle relief.
Tue Sep 22 201519:39Johnson will leave team for few days for birth of child
Johnson will leave the team for a few days for the birth of his child, MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports.
Johnson was getting the ball in low-leverage situations so this should have a minimal effect in fantasy leagues over the next couple days.

Johnson took a beating on nationan TV Sunday, allowing eight runs in just two-thirds of an inning against the Pirates.
Ouch. Johnson has now allowed runs in all four of his Dodgers' appearances. His ERA has risen from 2.25 to 4.18 as a result, so don't expect him to rack up too many holds until he turns things around.

Johnson took the loss after allowing one run on two hits, walking two and striking out one over one-plus innings against the Pirates on Friday night.
Johnson (2-4, 2.82 ERA) came over to the Dodgers from Atlanta at the trading deadline, and was brought on to pitch as a set-up man, and in higher leverage situations. He made it through a scoreless ninth inning with the game tied 4-4, but loaded the bases without recording an out in the tenth before J.P. Howell came on and gave up the game winning hit. Johnson has pitched reasonably well this season, but has been horribly ineffective in recent seasons so he needs to get things in synch quickly before things unravel.
Thu Jul 30 201514:35Johnson dealt to Dodgers as part of three-team trade
Johnson has been dealt to the Dodgers as part of a three-team trade, Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports reports.
Johnson is one of seven players acquired by the Dodgers on Thursday in a massive three-team trade. Kenley Jansen is firmly entrenched as the Dodgers' closer, so this move will hurt Johnson's value provided he doesn't get moved again before the deadline. Johnson has enjoyed a bounce-back year after a disastrous 2014 campaign and can be a contributor in LA's bullpen, but saves are likely out of the equation for him.

Johnson could be headed to the Dodgers as part of a three-team deal with the Marlins, MLB.com reports.
The 32-year-old is having a very strong season and is working on a cheap, expiring contract, so he's a quality secondary piece in the rumored trade that would also land the Dodgers Alex Wood, Jose Peraza and Luis Avilan. Johnson would move into a setup role in front of Kenley Jansen in Los Angeles, while the closer role would be left wide open in Atlanta should the trade go through.

Johnson blew a save opportunity for the Braves in Monday's loss to the Orioles.
The Orioles didn't win the game against Johnson in the ninth inning, but a game-tying run plated against him opened the door for a Matt Wieters walk-off home run two innings later. Johnson is a candidate to be flipped to a contending club prior to Friday's trade deadline, which would leave the Braves with a glaring need in the back of their bullpen. If that happens, Arodys Vizcaino may be the leading internal candidate to take on save chance in Atlanta.

Johnson worked around a hit in a scoreless inning to earn his ninth save of the season Sunday against the Cardinals.
The 32-year-old has been lights out since taking over the closer's role for Jason Grilli and has converted seven straight seave opportunities. Johnson's 6.1 K/9 and 1.22 WHIP leave much to be desired for fantasy owners, but he should continue to to be a good, cheap source of saves if he remains with the Braves past the trade deadline.

Johnson pitched a clean ninth inning to record his sixth save as Atlanta defeated the Cubs 4-2 Friday night. He struck out one.
As expected with Jason Grilli going on the disabled list, Johnson was called upon to protect the lead in the ninth. He has posted a respectable 2.05 ERA as the Braves' primary set-up man, and will likely be given the chance to serve as their regular closer. Of note, Arodys Vizcaino pitched a clean eighth inning to pick up the win, and could be the first alternate should Johnson stumble.

Johnson is expected to take over closer duties for the Braves with Jason Grilli suffering a season-ending Achilles injury, MLB.com reports.
The Braves haven't officially named a closer, but Johnson is the likely candidate as he has five saves this season as Grilli's understudy.

Johnson allowed a pair of hits, but kept the Phillies at bay in the ninth inning to record his fifth save in a 2-1 Braves win Friday night.
With five saves and a 2.25 ERA, Johnson has served respectably as the back-up closer when Jason Grilli has been unavailable. The braves have to be careful with Grilli's workload, so Johnson tends to get a few more save opportunities than would normally be expected for a set-up man, slightly enhancing his fantasy value.

Johnson worked out of a jam to pick up his fourth save of the season in Sunday's 1-0 win over the Mets.
Jason Grilli threw 38 pitches over the previous two games, leaving Johnson to serve as the closer Sunday evening. Grilli's absence nearly cost the Braves dearly, as the Mets started the top of the ninth with back-to-back singles -- one on a bunt -- before Johnson finished things off by inducing a flyout from Lucas Duda and a double play from Michael Cuddyer. Johnson now has a streak of seven consecutive scoreless appearances, dropping his ERA to 2.70. His poor strikeout numbers make him tough to trust in the long run, but he's still a ground-ball machine and an excellent source of holds.
