Sun Apr 17 202222:06Blake Snell Will Throw Side Session Tuesday
San Diego Padres pitcher Blake Snell (groin) is in line to throw a bullpen session Tuesday. He was placed on the 10-day injured list with left adductor tightness. The 29-year-old will miss at least one more turn in the rotation and continues to be day-to-day. On Wednesday, San Diego's top prospect MacKenzie Gore is scheduled to start in Snell's place against the Cincinnati Reds. Gore allowed two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out three over 5 1/3 innings in his previous start against the Braves; the 23-year-old has a ton of upside and is a terrific streamer this week against the woeful Cincinnati Reds.

Thu Apr 14 202217:10Blake Snell Placed On Injured List With Adductor Tightness
The San Diego Padres have placed starting pitcher Blake Snell (adductor) on the 10-day injured list with left adductor tightness. The 29-year-old veteran was scratched from his first start of the year and he will now be out for at least another week and a half, potentially longer. The Padres are calling up the team's top pitching prospect, MacKenzie Gore, to take Snell's spot in the rotation. Gore will make his MLB debut on Friday. Snell struggled in his first year with the Padres last year, pitching to a 4.20 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP over 27 starts. However, he should remain rostered in all fantasy formats as his upside makes him well worthy of stashing in an IL spot.

Wed Apr 13 202214:14Blake Snell Expected To Go On Injured List
According to The Athletic's Dennis Lin, San Diego Padres starting pitcher Blake Snell (groin) is expected to be placed on the injured list on Thursday. Per Lin, Padres manager Bob Melvin said the team believes Snell's injury to be mild. The 29-year-old was previously scratched from his first start of the season on Sunday. The 2018 American League Cy Young winner made 27 starts for San Diego last season, throwing 128 2/3 innings and pitching to a 4.20 ERA and a 3.82 FIP. Mon Apr 11 202221:06Blake Snell May Not Land On IL
San Diego Padres left-hander Blake Snell (groin) is planning to play catch on Tuesday and throw his scheduled bullpen session on Wednesday. Snell was initially expected to land on the injured list after getting scratched from his start last Sunday, but it appears that the team will now wait and see if he's feeling up to making his next start slated for Friday. Snell was reportedly moving well on the field before Monday's game. Fantasy gamers rostering Snell will want to monitor his status closely over the next few days to see whether they will have him at their disposal against the Atlanta Braves on Friday.

Sun Apr 10 202220:53Blake Snell To Land On IL, Mackenzie Gore Could Pitch Friday
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Blake Snell (groin) is probably headed to the injured list, but manager Bob Melvin said Snell's adductor injury isn't nearly as serious as the one that shut the left-hander down last September. The 29-year-old was scratched from his season debut on Sunday against the Arizona Diamondbacks with adductor tightness, and he'll miss at least the next 10 days, if not more. Snell was a disappointment in his first year in San Diego and also dealt with injuries, finishing 7-6 with a 4.20 ERA and 1.32 WHIP while posting a 30.9% strikeout rate and 12.6% walk rate in 128 2/3 innings over 27 starts. The strikeouts are nice, but his walk rate was the highest since his rookie season in 2016, and the injuries have become a real problem. MacKenzie Gore looked like he might've finally turned a corner this spring, and the left-hander should be picked up immediately in fantasy leagues if he's available.

Sun Apr 10 202218:02Blake Snell Scratched With Adductor Tightness On Sunday
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Blake Snell (groin) was a last-minute scratch from his start against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday due to left adductor tightness. The team went on to send out Nabil Crismatt to start the game. Snell dealt with left adductor tightness late last season as well, so it's certainly concerning to see the issue come up again. There's no word yet as to how severe the injury is for Snell. He should be considered day-to-day at this point, but we expect to have more clarity on the situation soon. Make sure to stay tuned.

Mon Apr 4 202209:27Blake Snell Struggles In Only Spring Start
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Blake Snell has made only one start so far this spring. It came last Thursday against the Arizona Diamondbacks and it was an ugly one. He pitched just 1 1/3 innings and allowed two hits, four walks and three runs (two earned) without recording a strikeout. Snell made 27 starts last year in his first season with the Padres. He went 7-6 with a 4.20 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP. He averaged 11.9 K/9 throughout the year. He should be on the mound for one of the team's games in its four-game series against the Diamondbacks to start the year, but it's unclear which game he'll start at this point. All we know is that Yu Darvish is the team's Opening Day starter.

Wed Sep 15 202121:01Blake Snell Placed On Injured List With Groin Strain
The San Diego Padres placed starting pitcher Blake Snell (groin) on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday due to a strained groin. Snell suffered the injury during his last outing against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday. He was forced to exit the start in the first inning and the team has been monitoring him closely throughout the week. He was scheduled to make his next start against the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday, but the Padres will need to find another option now. The team signed recently-released veteran Vince Velasquez on Wednesday and he appears to be primed for a start at some point this weekend. Fantasy managers should stash Snell on an IL spot, but there's a decent chance that we've seen the last of him this season.

Tue Sep 14 202108:20Blake Snell Continuing To Experience Soreness
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Blake Snell (groin) woke up more tender and sore than was expected on Monday morning, according to Padres manager Jayce Tingler. Snell was removed from his start against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday in the first inning due to left adductor tightness. He is in the midst of undergoing treatment and he is still scheduled to start Friday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. However, it sounds like there's a very good chance he'll be unable to make that start. Snell has struggled through the bulk of the year, but he found his groove in August, pitching to a 1.72 ERA over six starts across the month. He should remain rostered in all leagues for now, but fantasy managers should prepare for alternative plans if he's unable to go this weekend.

Sun Sep 12 202119:52Blake Snell Pulled From Sunday's Start With Injury
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Blake Snell(groin) exited Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the first inning of their 8-0 loss. According to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune, he experienced left adductor tightness, which is usually a groin injury. The latest news adds on to what has been a disappointing first year out west for Snell, who owns a 4.22 ERA, but is still striking out 31% of the batters he's faced. He has value in every format, but his inability to go deep into games (128 innings over 26 starts) limits it. He's day-to-day for now, but if forced to miss time, the Padres would probably call upon Ryan Weathers. He's started 17 games this season and has a 5.36 ERA with just 64 strikeouts across 85.2 innings. Fantasy managers should leave him on the waiver wire and find a better starting option.

Wed Sep 1 202112:37Blake Snell No-Hits Snakes For Seven Frames
San Diego Padres starter Blake Snell was pulled after seven no-hit innings Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The left-hander was brilliant with 10 strikeouts, but was lifted after 107 pitches and the Friars eventually lost the no-no courtesy of the bullpen. Aside from two walks, Snell was automatic with his slider clicking at a high level. The 28-year-old has turned it on in his past six starts with a 1.72 ERA, 13.3 K/9 and 4.5 strikeout-to-walk ratio. The strong run has pulled his season totals to a manageable 4.31 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and excellent 30 percent strikeout rate over 121 innings. He'll draw a matchup at home with the Los Angeles Angels next week and should be trusted as an SP3.

Thu Aug 26 202112:36Blake Snell Dazzles In Best Start Of Season
San Diego Padres starter Blake Snell was marvelous in 7 innings Wednesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers, fanning 10 while permitting one earned run. In his best start of 2021, the left-hander allowed three hits and zero walks in a season-high 122 pitches. His only mistake was a late game-tying home run to catcher Will Smith that sent the contest into a 16-inning marathon and eventual 5-3 Friars loss. After being mostly awful this year, Snell has turned in five consecutive strong starts, posting a 2.12 ERA with a 44-to-10 strikeout-to-walk tally. His overall line remains a disappointing 4.58 ERA and 1.45 WHIP with a 29 percent strikeout rate. Snell's next matchup comes next week in Arizona against the Diamondbacks. He's back on the fantasy map as an SP3/4.

Sat Aug 21 202102:23Blake Snell Takes Fifth Loss
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Blake Snell took his fifth loss of the season Friday night, falling to the Philadelphia Phillies. Snell allowed three runs on two hits and two walks in five innings, striking out nine batters along the way. This breaks a streak of three consecutive starts without giving up more than two earned runs. Snell has enjoyed quite a strong August, with a 1.59 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 25 strikeouts in 17 innings. Fantasy managers have to have faith that Snell doesn't revert to the form that saw him post a 5.44 ERA in the first four months of the year.

Wed Aug 18 202108:59Blake Snell Potentially Turning A Corner In August
2021 hasn't been kind to former AL Cy Young winner Blake Snell. The Padres starter entered the month of August with a 5.44 ERA and a 4-4 record on the year. However, he's starting to show some signs of a turnaround. Over his first three starts of August, Snell has gone 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA, striking out 25 batters over 17 innings. Two of his outings were against one of the league's worst hitting teams, the Arizona Diamondbacks, but the third was against a stellar Oakland Athletics lineup. Snell has some scary underlying metrics, including a 13.8% walk rate that ranks in the bottom 6% of the league and a 10.8% barrel rate that ranks in the bottom 10% of the league. He'll need to improve upon those metrics in order to truly turn things around, but at least the first steps toward a turnaround have been taken. Snell's next start will be on Friday against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Mon Aug 9 202100:04Blake Snell Turns In Best Start Of Season
San Diego Padres starter Blake Snell shut out the Arizona Diamondbacks for seven innings Sunday, collecting a season-high 13 strikeouts. Easily his best start of 2021, the left-hander induced 25 whiffs while permitting just two hits and three walks. The outing marked Snell's second consecutive positive start and the fourth time he completed six-plus innings. The 28-year-old has endured a challenging campaign, but Sunday's gem drops his ERA to 4.86 to accompany a 1.56 WHIP and 29 percent strikeout rate. He'll face the D-Backs again next Friday on the road and one more quality performance could put him back in the fantasy circle of trust as an SP3/4.

Wed Aug 4 202111:56Blake Snell Pitches Around Trouble For Fifth Win
San Diego Padres starter Blake Snell bounced back with five innings of one-run ball Tuesday against the Oakland Athletics, earning his fifth win. After getting pummeled by the A's for seven earned runs last week, Snell skirted around six hits and three walks to fan six over 105 pitches. While far from efficient, the outing was relatively pain-free for the left-hander aside from being victimized by outfielder Starling Marte for three hits including a homer. Through 89 frames, Snell still owns a poor 5.24 ERA and 1.62 WHIP while maintaining a 27 percent strikeout rate. With a 14 percent walk rate, the 28-year-old has failed going deep into games, with just three quality starts in 20 starts. He'll square off against the Miami Marlins at home next week and is worth the fantasy gamble for teams comfortable under any innings restrictions.

Wed Jul 28 202119:25Blake Snell Crushed For Seven Earned Runs
San Diego Padres starter Blake Snell was tagged for seven earned runs in four innings Wednesday against the Oakland Athletics. The horrific side of the volatile Snell showed up as he served seven hits and four walks over 86 laborious pitches with a single strikeout. His doom was sealed before the Friars saw a pitch as A's third baseman Matt Chapman crushed a three-run job in a nightmare first inning. After 84 frames, Snell's lost season continues in the form of a 5.44 ERA and 1.61 WHIP. Despite a 29 percent strikeout rate, the left-hander has devolved into a fantasy spot starter outside of shallow formats. He'll rematch the A's next Tuesday at the Oakland Coliseum.
