It will be Petit's first start since June 20 of last year, when while with Washington, he was the starter and losing pitcher in a 4-1 loss to the Dodgers. When he starts Saturday, Petit will have gone 54 consecutive relief appearances between starts. In 36 relief appearances for the Angels this year he is 2-0, with a 2.70 ERA.

Petit (1-1) made a spot start Saturday on the back end of a doubleheader in Coors Field, allowing four runs over six innings in a 5-3 loss to the Rockies.
Petit pitched well going into the sixth inning, but allowed a two-run homer to Daniel Descalso. With the doubleheader concluded, Petit will head back to the bullpen 'til he's needed for another spot start. If there are any injuries to the Giants' rotation, Petit would likely step in and become streaming-worthy at minimum.

It will be the first start of the season for Petit, who has a 3.27 ERA and 1.13 WHIP over 22 relief innings. He's scheduled to square off against the Rockies' David Hale, who will be recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque ahead of Game 2.

Either Petit or Ryan Vogelsong will start Thursday's game against the Dodgers, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
The Giants are opting against pushing up Chris Heston and those behind him by a day despite Monday's off-day. If Petit pitches well, he could stick in the rotation temporarily while Jake Peavy and Matt Cain are on the DL.

Petit will not be considered for Wednesday's start in place of Matt Cain, Amy Gutierrez reported on the Giants broadcast Monday night.
The Giants' rotation is already a mess. Jake Peavy will not start Tuesday night due to his back issues but should be available over the weekend, Matt Cain will probably miss a couple of weeks and definitely miss Wednesday's start, and Tim Lincecum dealt with back problems in spring training. Petit may not be considered an option for starting now, but it probably isn't off the table for later this season.

Petit will be stretched out in case Tim Lincecum (back) isn't ready to pitch at the beginning of the season, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Bochy indicated earlier in spring training that Lincecum will begin the season in the rotation, with both Petit and Ryan Vogelsong serving in the bullpen. Ifthe back injury sidelines Lincecum, however, one of the two would likely move into he rotation, which would add a little extra value.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Friday that he envisions using Petit as a "super reliever" during the upcoming season, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
The Giants' signing of Ryan Vogelsong earlier in the day appears to have knocked Petit out of the competition for the No. 5 rotation spot, as that battle will now be decided between Vogelsong and Tim Lincecum. Instead, the versatile Petit appears primed to see both high-leverage and long-relief work out of the San Francisco bullpen to start 2015, a capacity he thrived in last season. Petit produced a 1.84 ERA and surrendered a lone home run over his 49 innings in relief, but saw those numbers skyrocket when injuries and Lincecum's ineffectiveness enabled him to pick up 12 starts. He could be tapped for a starting job at some point if an opening is created later in the season, but it appears the Giants would rather not have him pitch in that role on a long-term basis.
Fri Jan 16 201509:39The Giants inked Petit to one-year
The Giants inked Petit to a one-year, $2.1 million contract Friday, avoiding arbitration, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports.
San Francisco will retain Petit for 2015 at a relative pittance, as he proved highly valuable as a swingman last season, logging a 3.69 ERA and 1.01 WHIP across 117 innings. Tim Lincecum's ongoing decline could allow Petit to assume a rotation spot at some point in 2015, but at the moment, he looks poised to serve as a long man out of the bullpen.

Petit gave up three runs on five hits while striking out eight over 5.1 innings Thursday.
Petit was actually in line for the win before the Giants' bullpen blew the lead in the seventh inning. The 29-year-old journeyman has revitalized his career in the friendly confines of AT&T Park, posting a combined 3.69 ERA as both a reliever and a starter in 2014. He has a strong shot at making the rotation if he is with the club next season.

Petit allowed four hits, three walks and three runs- two earned- while striking out seven in a loss to the Padres on Saturday.
For the season, Petit has an outstanding 125:21 K:BB ratio. He had faced 70 batters in a row without going to a three-ball count before he gave up a walk to Andrew Cashner in the third inning. Since taking Tim Lincecum's spot in the Giants' rotation, excluding his first start at Colorado, Petit has given up 6 runs in 21.1 innings with a 24:3 K:BB ratio.

Petit (5-4) tossed seven innings Sunday, surrendering four runs (three earned) on eight hits while striking out eight in the loss to the Dodgers.
Petit pitched relatively well Sunday, tossing a quality start against a tough Dodgers lineup. Unfortunately for his owners, he was facing off against Clayton Kershaw, who held the Giants' offense in check. Outside of a poor start at Coors Field, Petit has been excellent since joining the rotation, tossing quality starts in three of four starts and posting a sparkling 31:1 K:BB ratio over that span. His next start is a very favorable one against the Padres on Saturday.

Petit pitched a complete-game gem Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, allowing just one run on four hits (no walks), while striking out nine batters. The amazing thing is he completed the game on just 84 pitches, with an astonishing 68 of them strikes.
Although he got rocked his last start (allowing six runs on seven hits and one walk in four innings), that was on the road in Colorado. Otherwise he has been pitching lights out of late, either in relief or now as a starter in Tim Lincecum's stead. He now owns a solid 3.62 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 110:18 K:BB in 99.1 innings this year. His next scheduled start is set for Sunday at home against the Dodgers.
