Edwards has been traded to the Padres as part of the Will Venable deal.

Edwards is the "player to be named" in the deal, which was announced Tuesday evening. He'll join minor league catcher Marcus Greene in the Padres' organization. Edwards, 27, has spent the bulk of the year at Triple-A Round Rock, where he holds a 1.42 ERA across 31.2 innings. In 11 appearances for the Rangers (six innings), Edwards allowed four earned runs on six hits. He's likely to begin his tenure with San Diego at the Triple-A level and could be a candidate to be called up next month.

Edwards was optioned back to Triple-A Round Rock on Friday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.

His third stint with the big league club lasted a mere two days. Edwards has had trouble with walks in 11 appearances in the majors this season, issuing eight free passes in six innings, but he should get another opportunity before too long on the strength of his 1.80 ERA and 1.00 WHIP at Round Rock.

Edwards was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday.

The Rangers needed to add a couple arms after the bullpen was forced to go eight innings in relief of Martin Perez on Tuesday. Edwards was one of the two arms added (Alex Claudio was the other), and the promotion was deserved, as he's posted a 1.80, 1.00 WHIP and 36:7 K:BB in 27 appearances with Round Rock this season. It's uncertain, however, if he'll fill anything more than a middle-relief role.

Edwards was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

The 27-year-old was an obvious candidate for a demotion with the team needing to create room on the roster for Adrian Beltre (thumb). Edwards hasn't recorded more than two outs in any of his last six outings and sits with a 6:8 K:BB in six innings spanning 11 total appearances.

Edwards was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday.

Edwards made one appearance in the majors before being sent back to Triple-A last time around, walking each of the two batters he faced. However, he's allowed just two earned runs over 15.2 innings while striking out 20 at Triple-A, leading to another recall Wednesday.

Edwards was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday.

Edwards hardly made it 24 hours in the big leagues, as he walked two and failed to record an out in his only appearance Saturday night. He'll now serve as organizational depth in the minors, with reliever Stolmy Pimentel set to take his spot on the 25-man roster.

Edwards' contract was purchased from Triple-A on Saturday.

A career reliever, Edwards was called up following Derek Holland being placed on the disabled list. He has always shown the ability to miss bats, but walks have also been an issue. Look for him to be used in the middle innings and in mop up duty.
