Wed May 24 202303:31Danny Jansen Homers; New Catcher To Roster In Toronto?
Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen went 3-for-6 with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored as part of a 20-run bonanza against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday. The long ball may have come off position player Christian Bethancourt in garbage time, but Jansen is certainly trending up. Across his last 10 games, the 28-year-old sports a .300 average (12-for-40) with three bombs and 11 RBI. Alejandro Kirk, whose fantasy ownership is dwindling, is hitting a trifling .184 (9-for-49) with a ghastly .504 OPS in May. The Jays are likely to ride some form of hot-hand approach behind the dish, so fantasy managers should watch this situation with a close eye.

Wed Apr 19 202322:02Danny Jansen Continues Drought At The Plate
Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen continues to struggle mightily at the plate, which is quite concerning for Jansen's fantasy managers. He hasn't seen much playing time recently and was benched once again in Wednesday's matchup against the Houston Astros. With counterpart Alejandro Kirk making a sizeable contribution at the plate, there isn't much room for Jansen unless his bat can rejuvenate. On the season, the 28-year-old is hitting .097/.200/.097 with a .297 OPS and just three hits. This is quite a disappointing start for the Illinois native, especially if you compare it to his breakout last season. In 2022, the 28-year-old slashed a career-high .260/.339/.516 with a 140 wRC+. Jansen is mostly found in deeper leagues, but if his bat starts to perk up, his fantasy stock could heighten quickly.

Fri Oct 7 202214:11Danny Jansen Serving As DH In Game 1
Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen will serve as the designated hitter and will bat eighth on Friday in Game 1 of the American League Wild-Card Series against the Seattle Mariners and right-hander Luis Castillo. Jansen has some pop in his bat for a catcher, as he slugged a career-high 15 home runs in 72 games for Toronto this year, also adding a .260/.339/.516 slash line with an .855 OPS, 44 RBI, 34 runs scored and a stolen base. Jansen enters the playoffs on a hot streak at the plate, too, going 8-for-24 (.333) with two home runs, seven RBI and four runs scored in the last seven games of the regular season.

Wed Sep 28 202223:54Danny Jansen Homers Wednesday
Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen hit his 14th home run of the season Wednesday, a solo shot off of New York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole in the sixth inning of an 8-3 loss. Jansen also walked in four plate appearances. Jansen has a solid .841 OPS with 31 runs scored and 38 RBI in 228 plate appearances this year. In Jansen and fellow backstop Alejandro Kirk, the Blue Jays have gotten excellent production from their catchers, and both should be on the radar for fantasy managers heading into 2023.

Fri Sep 2 202216:39Danny Jansen Retreats To The Bench Friday
Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen is not in the starting lineup on Friday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. It will be the second straight day that Jansen will begin on the bench for Toronto. He hit just .213 (10-for-47) with two home runs, nine RBI, seven runs scored and 11 strikeouts in 15 games in the month of August. Overall, the 27-year-old backstop is slashing .219/.293/.474 with 11 home runs, 30 RBI and 21 runs scored for the Blue Jays in 157 plate appearances and 45 games this year. Alejandro Kirk is doing the catching against Pittsburgh and will hit cleanup against Pirates right-hander Johan Oviedo on Friday. Kirk has been much more effective for fantasy managers than Jansen, as he's hitting .296/.380/.443 with an .823 OPS, 13 long balls, 51 RBI and 52 runs scored in 379 at-bats.

Fri Aug 26 202211:38Danny Jansen Goes Deep Against Red Sox
Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen had a big night offensively in Thursday's 6-5 win over the Boston Red Sox, going 3-for-5 with a home run, one RBI and two runs scored. It was a big game for Jansen, who has been mired in a slump in the month of August. Including his three-hit performance on Thursday night, he's hitting .189 (7-for-37) with a home run, five RBI, five runs scored and 10 strikeouts in 12 games this month. The 27-year-old backstop is slashing .213/.278/.457 with 10 home runs, 26 RBI and 19 runs scored in 144 plate appearances over 42 games for Toronto in 2022. Jansen will continue splitting playing time behind the dish with Alejandro Kirk, who has been much better offensively.

Sat Jul 23 202211:21Danny Jansen Hits Two Homers Friday Night
Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen clubbed two home runs in the team's 28-5 embarrassment of the Boston Red Sox on Friday night. Jansen finished the evening 3-for-6 with six RBI, four runs scored, a walk and a strikeout. The home runs were his first since June 1, and he is now hitting .260/.329/.644 with a .973 OPS, nine home runs, 19 RBI and 14 runs scored over 82 plate appearances and 24 games. The 27-year-old has been on fire since returning from the injured list, going 6-for-17 (.353) with five runs scored in five games. It's nice to see Jansen swinging the bat well after missing time due to injury, but he'll continue to split time behind the plate with All-Star catcher Alejandro Kirk in Toronto.

Mon Jun 20 202209:43Danny Jansen Returns To Baseball Activities
Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen (hand) has resumed light baseball activities, according to Blue Jays reporter Keegan Matheson. Jansen has begun swinging a bat and receiving the ball from behind the plate. His next steps will be taking full swings and making contact with pitches. Jansen has been on the shelf for about two weeks after fracturing a bone in his left hand. The 27-year-old has been held to just 19 games this year due to injuries, but he's produced well when he's been on the field, slashing .232/.290/.625 with seven home runs, 13 RBI and nine runs.

Tue Jun 7 202217:53Danny Jansen Has Fracture In Left Hand
Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen (finger) has been diagnosed with a fractured bone on his left hand near his pinkie finger. General manager Ross Atkins called it a "stable" break, so his recovery is expected to be on the shorter side for a fracture recovery. The Blue Jays are calling up catcher Zack Collins from Triple-A Buffalo to replace Jansen on the active roster. Jansen missed over a month already this year with a strained oblique, so he hasn't been able to stay on the field consistently. Alejandro Kirk, who is hitting .306/.389/.465 with an .854 OPS, five home runs and 16 RBI, will be the team's primary backstop moving forward. He's deserving of a pickup off the waiver wire if you're in need of help at the position.

Tue Jun 7 202211:02Danny Jansen Fine After Hit By Pitch
Toronto Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo said that catcher Danny Jansen (hand) is "fine" after being hit by a pitch on his left hand in the eighth inning on Monday against the Kansas City Royals. Jansen finished off the game behind the plate and is undergoing precautionary X-rays to make sure there's no structural damage in his hand. It doesn't mean that Jansen will be back in the lineup on Tuesday, but it looks like he's avoided a serious injury. The 27-year-old is hitting just .232 with a .290 on-base percentage in 56 at-bats this year for Toronto, but he does have seven home runs, 13 RBI and nine runs scored. Don't be surprised if Alejandro Kirk is catching against the Royals on Tuesday.

Sat Jun 4 202211:55Danny Jansen Takes A Seat Against Twins
Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen is not in the starting lineup against the Minnesota Twins on Saturday. It will be the second time in the last three games that Jansen isn't starting. Alejandro Kirk will do the catching and is hitting fifth against Twins right-hander Dylan Bundy. Jansen has cooled off of late and has gone .7-for-30 (.233) in the last 14 days, although he does have four home runs and eight RBI in that span. He's slashing .260/.315/.700 with a 1.015 OPS, seven home runs, 12 RBI and nine runs scored on the season in 17 games. Kirk is in a position to do some damage in DFS on Saturday, and he's hit well this year with a .301/.379/.429 slash line with an .808 OPS, three home runs and 13 RBI in 133 at-bats.

Thu May 5 202216:20Danny Jansen Hopeful To Begin Rehab Assignment Soon
Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen (oblique) travelled with the team to Cleveland for its four-game series against the Guardians. He is expected to do some running as well as some hitting in the batting cages on Thursday. Jansen told reporters that the next step after that will be to see how his body responds to the workouts. He added that he's hopeful he will begin a rehab assignment soon. Jansen has been sidelined since opening weekend due to a left oblique injury. He homered in each of his first two games prior to the injury.

Mon Apr 25 202218:29Danny Jansen Partaking In Baseball Activities
Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen (side) has been partaking in baseball activities, according to Blue Jays reporter Scott Mitchell. However, he has yet to start swinging a bat. The 27-year-old landed on the injured list with left side soreness on April 11. We hadn't received many updates on his rehab progress until now and even this update doesn't give us much information in terms of his timeline for a return. Jansen only appeared in two games before suffering the side injury, but he certainly started the year off with a bang. Over his two games, he went 4-for-7 with two home runs and a double.

Mon Apr 11 202218:43Danny Jansen Placed On Injured List With Side Soreness
The Toronto Blue Jays placed catcher Danny Jansen (side) on the 10-day injured list on Monday. The 26-year-old is dealing with left side soreness. The team selected the contract of fellow catcher Tyler Heineman and he will be part of the team's active roster for Monday night's game against the New York Yankees. Alejandro Kirk is getting the start behind the plate for Monday's game, but Heineman should see a few starts throughout the next week or so. We don't have word yet on how long the Blue Jays expect for Jansen to be sidelined, so make sure to stay tuned for updates.

Mon Apr 11 202218:25Danny Jansen Dealing With Left Side Soreness
Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen (side) is dealing with left side soreness, according to Jays manager Charlie Montoyo. He is set to have an MRI to help determine the nature and severity of the injury. Alejandro Kirk is getting the start at catcher and Zack Collins is serving as designated hitter for Monday night's game against the New York Yankees. Jansen started behind the plate in two of the team's first three games of the year. He went 4-for-8 with a pair of solo home runs across the two starts.

Wed Sep 1 202109:00Danny Jansen Homers In Return From Injured List
The Toronto Blue Jays activated catcher Danny Jansen (hamstring) from the injured list prior to Tuesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. He started the game and went on to hit a solo home run and draw a walk before he was pulled from the game in the seventh inning. Jansen had been sidelined since July 21 due to a strained right hamstring. Going forward, he'll split catching duties with Reese McGuire and Alejandro Kirk, though one player could be demoted and Kirk could also fill in as designated hitter. Over 50 games on the year, Jansen has slashed .183/.270/.365, which is nearly identical to his 2020 slash line, .183/.313/.358.

Wed Aug 11 202121:42Danny Jansen Progressing, Cavan Biggio Still Hurting
Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen (hamstring) is progressing well, is running the bases and could start playing in rehab games soon. Infielder Cavan Biggio (back), however, is still bothered by his back injury. Jansen was placed on the injured list with a right hamstring strain two weeks ago, but he's nearing a return. He was hitting just .176/.259/.336 with five homers and 10 RBI in 49 games this year before his injury, so he'll likely share catching duties in Toronto upon his return, in a best-case scenario. Alejandro Kirk and Reese McGuire have been splitting catching duties. Biggio was put on the injured list on Aug. 3 for an injury that he's been dealing with all year. The 26-year-old has seven home runs in 246 at-bats, but he hasn't helped much with his .215/.316/.350 slash line, and it's looking like he won't be ready to return when he's eligible.

Sun Jul 11 202121:29Altuve's 3-run homer in 9th caps Astros' rally past Yankees
HOUSTON (AP) — Jose Altuve hit a three-run homer to cap a startling six-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning, getting his jersey yanked off in a frenzied celebration and lifting the Houston Astros over the New York Yankees 8-7 on Sunday. The Astros had been shut out by the Yankees the previous two games, highlighted by ace Gerrit Cole’s three-hitter in a 4-0 win on Saturday night. The win came on Altuve replica jersey giveaway at Minute Maid Park — Houston fans left with a No. 27 shirt, while the All-Star second baseman exited without his. New York led 7-2 after a three-run homer by Gary Sanchez in the eighth inning. After the first two Astros reached base against Domingo Germán in the ninth, Chas McCormick hit a two-run double off Chad Green (3-5). Abraham Toro followed with an RBI double to make it 7-5, still with no outs. Pinch-hitter Jason Castro singled and one out later, Altuve launched his soaring shot to left field. Ralph Garza Jr. (1-2) pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings for... [More]
