ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Trevor Story grew up about 15 minutes from the Texas Rangers' ballpark, where he got to see the team he cheered for play in the World Series. Now the Rockies shortstop from Irving is finally playing in that stadium as a big leaguer."This was my Yankee Stadium growing up," Story said Friday before Colorado opened an interleague series in Texas. "I always was in the stands watching from afar."Story wasn't able to play the last time the Rockies were at Texas two years ago. He hit an NL rookie shortstop-record 27 homers in 97 games that year, but missed the games he had long circled on his calendar because of a season-ending thumb injury suffered about two weeks earlier."I circled it again for this year," Story said. "It was tough honestly ... obviously dying to be out there."Story went into Friday night's game, batting fourth, as the National League leader with 50 RBIs and hitting .270 overall with 14 homers. He had multiple hits in five of his previous six games, and... [More]

BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore Orioles reliever Richard Bleier is likely lost for the year with a shoulder injury, yet another setback for the team with the worst record in the major leagues.Bleier (3-0, 1.93 ERA) was the most effective pitcher in a bullpen that only recently got back injured Zach Britton and Darren O'Day.Bleier walked off the mound in pain Wednesday after throwing a seventh-inning pitch against Boston. An MRI determined the injury to be a left shoulder latissimus strain, which probably will require surgery to repair."I don't expect him to play again this year," manager Buck Showalter said Friday. "The worst case is that it's a Grade 3 (strain) and he has surgery and returns sometime next season."Bleier, whose 31 appearances are most on the staff, was placed on the 10-day disabled list."It's a loss," Showalter said. "It's very valuable to have a left-handed pitcher who can pitch to both sides. He keeps you from having to (warm up) behind him because you know you can leave him... [More]

CLEVELAND (AP) — Joe Mauer didn't receive any gifts for returning from a lengthy stint on the disabled list. No, his reward was an immediate matchup against two-time Cy Young winner Corey Kluber."Yeah, welcome back, right?" Mauer said with a laugh. The six-time All-Star returned to the lineup on Friday after missing 25 games with a strained neck and concussion-like symptoms sustained when he was injured diving for a foul ball last month. And while facing Kluber might not be an ideal first step back, the struggling Twins, who have one of the league's weakest offenses, were thrilled to have Mauer back in their lineup."It's good for any manager to have a chance to put a guy like Joe's name down there," said manager Paul Molitor, who had Mauer batting first against Kluber in the opener of a three-game series against the AL Central-leading Indians. "Yeah, he's in a good place, he's excited to be here and we welcome him back. Hopefully, he can give us a little bit of a boost."The Twins came in seven... [More]

A look at what's happening around the majors Friday:TEXAS STORYColorado shortstop Trevor Story gets to play a big league game near home for the first time when the Rockies open an interleague series Friday night at the Texas Rangers, in a stadium only a few miles from his hometown of Irving, Texas. The Rockies last played at Texas in 2016, which was Story's standout rookie season. But Story, the 45th overall pick in the 2011 draft out of Irving High, suffered a season-ending left thumb injury about two weeks before that series. Another Texas native starts the opener for the Rockies in right-hander Chad Bettis (4-1), who is from Lubbock and went to Texas Tech. He got a no decision in the Rockies' 12-9 win during that August 2016 series when he allowed five runs in five innings.ACES UPTwo of the National League's top pitchers this season will face off when the Chicago Cubs open a weekend series at the St. Louis Cardinals. NEW YORK (AP) — Commissioner Rob Manfred says Major League Baseball is trying to remove from the internet the leaked video of former Mets manager Terry Collins ranting at umpires. The profanity-laced video surfaced this week from a Dodgers-Mets game in May 2016 that Fox televised. Collins fumes after ace Noah Syndergaard is ejected in the third inning for throwing a fastball behind Chase Utley. In the 2015 playoffs, Utley broke the leg of Mets infielder Ruben Tejada with a late, hard slide.Umpire crew chief Tom Hallion is heard explaining the ejection to Syndergaard, Neil Walker and other Mets, then he breaks away to head off Collins. For many fans, the loud exchange between Collins and Hallion illuminated what actually gets said during heated disputes."We made a commitment to the umpires that if they would wear microphones, certain types of interactions that we all know go on the field would not be aired publicly," Manfred said Thursday after the owners meetings ended."We promised them...
