Wed Apr 5 202300:57Sandy Alcantara Tosses Complete-Game Shutout Tuesday
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara turned in an excellent start in Tuesday's 1-0 win over the Twins. Alcantara earned his first win of the season in a complete-game shutout, allowing three hits and a walk with five strikeouts on 100 pitches. This is the kind of outing fantasy managers have come to expect of the 2022 National League Cy Young winner, who pitched six complete games in 2022 out of 32 starts. The only non-elite aspect of Alcantara's game is strikeouts, but his ability to effectively pitch deep into games makes up for it. He now has a 1.84 ERA through his first two starts and is next scheduled to face a scuffling Phillies lineup on the road.

Thu Mar 16 202323:02Sandy Alcantara Showing No Rust This Spring
Miami Marlins pitcherSandy Alcantarais enjoying a hot start to his spring on the heels of earning the NL Cy Young Award in 2022. The right-hander has pitched in just two games spanning 4 2/3 innings but has yielded just one earned run on four hits and two walks in that time. His 1.29 WHIP and two strikeouts in that span don't stand out, but Alcantara remains stingy through 74 Grapefruit League pitches nonetheless. It was a marvelous 2022 campaign for the Marlins' ace as Alcantara hurled a 2.28 ERA with a 17.7% K-BB% ratio across 32 starts spanning an MLB-best 228 2/3 innings pitched. The Dominican Republic native also managed to go 14-9 on a Marlins club that finished just 69-93 a season ago. Despite a lukewarm career 21.9 K%, Alcantara is one of the game's elite fantasy arms entering the 2023 campaign.

Mon Dec 5 202222:22Marlins Not Listening On Sandy Alcantara
The Miami Marlins won't listen to trade offers on Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara this offseason, but they will listen on "almost anyone" else. Beyond Pablo Lopez, the Marlins will listen on Jesus Luzardo, Edward Cabrera and other starters. Miami has an abundance of arms in a market where starters' values are sky high, and the Marlins could use more hitters. Alcantara was a unanimous National League Cy Young winner in 2022 with a 2.28 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 207 strikeouts and 50 walks in 228 2/3 innings pitched this season. The 27-year-old signed a five-year, $56 million contract extension in November of 2021 and should remain in Miami for a while.

Wed Nov 16 202218:58Sandy Alcantara Wins National League Cy Young
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara won the 2022 National League Cy Young award on Wednesday. He becomes the team's first-ever Cy Young winner after he tossed a league-high 228 2/3 innings this year, which is the highest total for a pitcher since Justin Verlander's 223 in 2019. The 27-year-old right-hander's six complete games were the most in baseball in six years and more than any other team in 2022. He threw eight or more innings in 14 of his 32 starts. Alcantara's ERA (2.28), expected ERA (2.92), strikeouts (207) and quality starts (24) all ranked in the top five in the NL. Alcantara was an absolute beast and continued to throw in the upper-90s with his fastball deep into his starts. He'll cost a pretty penny as a fantasy ace in 2023 drafts.

Sun Oct 2 202200:14Sandy Alcantara Shut Down For Season
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara (rest) has been shut down for the remainder of the season, according to manager Don Mattingly. The Cy Young candidate was originally scheduled to pitch next Wednesday against the Braves, but the team decided to shut him down early. Alcantara ends the year with a 14-9 record, 2.28 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, and 207:50 K:BB ratio over an astounding 228 IP. Alcantara should be one of the first pitchers drafted next year, especially in points leagues where his volume puts him a step above everyone else.

Wed Sep 14 202200:48Sandy Alcantara Pitches Well, Takes Loss Tuesday
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara fell to 12-8 in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Phillies. Alcantara pitched 7 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits (including a two-run home run) and a walk with four strikeouts. The 27-year-old has been one of fantasy's top starters overall this season, but he has been more pedestrian in the second half, posting a 3.64 ERA in eight starts since August. Regardless, Alcantara is too good for fantasy managers to not start, and he will have a good chance to turn in another strong start this weekend at the Nationals.

Sun Aug 21 202223:43Sandy Alcantara Endures Rare Rough Start
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara endured a rare bad start on Sunday, allowing six runs on 10 hits and one walk to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 3 2/3 innings. He struck out five batters and took his sixth loss of the season. Alcantara is a frontrunner for the National League Cy Young Award with a 2.19 ERA and 0.98 WHIP this season, so fantasy managers can hardly fault the right-hander for this bump in the road. He'll look to get back on track in his next start, expected to come against the Dodgers once again at home in Miami.

Thu Aug 4 202211:47Sandy Alcantara Throws Complete-Game Shutout
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara tossed a complete-game shutout win over the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday, allowing six hits while walking one and striking out three in nine innings. The 26-year-old All-Star now has a major league-leading three complete games this year, and he's now 10-4 with a pristine 1.88 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, 141 strikeouts and 40 walks in 158 1/3 innings pitched over 22 starts this season. Alcantara has been one of the most dominant arms in all of baseball this year, and he's a must-start every time he toes the rubber in fantasy. His next start is scheduled to come against the Philadelphia Phillies next week.

Tue Jul 26 202219:55Marlins Listening On Everyone Besides Sandy Alcantara
The Miami Marlins are reportedly listening to trade offers for everyone not named Sandy Alcantara as the Aug. 2 trade deadline approaches. Alcantara, who made the All-Star team this year for the second time in his six major league seasons, currently leads baseball with a 1.81 ERA and two shutouts in 144 1/3 innings pitched over 20 starts, so it's understandable why he's off limits. Entering Tuesday's action, the Marlins stand at 45-51 and 14 games back of the division-leading New York Mets in the National League East. They are only 5.5 games back of the second wild-card spot, but there are also three teams in front of them for that race, so it's unlikely that they'll be looking at a postseason berth in 2022.

The 26-year-old now has a 1.76 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP over 19 starts on the season. He has been an absolute workhorse this year, leading the majors with 138.1 innings pitched. Wed Jul 6 202200:02Sandy Alcantara Goes Eight Innings Once Again In Win
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara is in a league of his own this season, and he showed it once again on Tuesday, as he went eight scoreless innings against the Los Angeles Angels to earn his ninth win of the season. He gave up just two hits and no walks while striking out 10 batters, a performance which lowered his ERA and WHIP to 1.82 and 0.91. Alcantara has thrown at least seven innings in 11 consecutive starts, leaving him far and away in the league lead for innings pitched with 123 1/3. At some point, the Marlins may have to consider slowing him down to limit his workload, but such considerations appear to be just about the only way anyone is going to stop him right now.

Mon Jun 13 202214:50Sandy Alcantara Has Been Plenty Effective Recently
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara has been excellent on the mound as of late. The 26-year-old has pitched to a 1.61 ERA, a 2.96 FIP, 77 strikeouts and 24 walks in 12 starts spanning 83.2 innings this season. He's been especially effective recently, with a 16-inning scoreless streak that included nine shutout frames against the Washington Nationals in his last outing on June 8. Alcantara also struck out six while scattering six hits that day. His next start will come on Monday night against the Philadelphia Phillies. It's a tough matchup, but fantasy managers should keep the right-hander in their lineups on Monday.

Wed May 18 202214:06Sandy Alcantara Leads League In Innings Pitched
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara threw another gem Monday night, with his eight-inning performance against the Washington Nationals vaulting him to the top of the leaderboard for innings pitched this season. Alcantara allowed just one run on three hits and a walk with two hit batters and five strikeouts. He has five quality starts in eight outings this season, and has allowed more than two earned runs just once. He'll never be a strikeout king, but he provides valuable volume which can make up the difference in many formats. Alcantara is a very steady top-of-the-rotation fantasy option with a 2.49 ERA and 1.11 WHIP this year.

Sat May 7 202208:30Sandy Alcantara Inefficient In Loss On Friday
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara managed to go only 4 2/3 innings pitched in the Marlins' 3-2 loss to the Padres on Friday night. Alcantara threw 94 pitches, allowing two earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five. It was the second start in a row for Alcantara in which he failed to register a quality start, having allowed five earned runs his last time out against the Mariners. Despite the last two outings, Alcantara remains a must-start option, though the walks are a bit troubling so far this year. Over six starts in 2022, Alcantara owns a 3.03 ERA, a 1.32 WHIP, and a 31:16 K:BB ratio in 35 2/3 IP. He lines up to next face the Diamondbacks on the road on Wednesday in a very favorable matchup.

Thu Apr 28 202208:26Sandy Alcantara Pitching To A 1.78 ERA Over Four Starts
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara is off to a fantastic start to the 2022 campaign. Over four starts, he's gone 2-0 with a 1.78 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP. He's earned a quality start in three of four outings. The 26-year-old has been doing a great job at minimizing hard contact. He's allowing a hard-hit rate of just 32.4%, down from 39.4% last year. He's only yielded two barrels across 68 batted balls, good for a 2.9% barrel rate that ranks in the 82nd percentile. The right-hander will look to keep rolling in his fifth start of the year, which will come on Sunday against the Seattle Mariners.

Fri Apr 15 202209:44Sandy Alcantara Picks Up First Win On Thursday
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara went 6 1/3 solid innings pitched in the Marlins' 4-3 win over the Phillies on Thursday. Alcantara picked up the win, allowing only two earned runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out five. Alcantara now owns a 3.18 ERA and 1.41 WHIP over 11 1/3 IP in two starts on the young season. Thursday's performance for Alcantara was a much better outing than his first start of the season against the Giants in which he walked five batters over five innings. On the season, he owns a 9:6 K:BB ratio which should certainly improve in line with his 2021 K:BB ratio of 201:50 over 205 2/3 IP. Alcantara next lines up to face the Cardinals at home on Wednesday and remains a must-start SP option in all formats.
