The Pirates called up Worley from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday.

Worley till take the roster spot of Radhames Liz and join the Pirates' bullpen. He started eight games for the Pirates earlier this season, but the Pirates already have six potential starters on the roster, so he will likely be used only in relief.

Worley allowed only two earned runs in eight Triple-A innings Saturday, giving him a 2.38 ERA in 34 IP for Indianapolis.

Look for the Bucs to spot-start Worley in September, especially once the team's playoff positioning is settled. He could be used to give starters Gerrit Cole or Francisco Liriano some extra time off.

Worley accepted assignment to Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday and will be stretched out as a starter, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.

With A.J. Burnett out and Francisco Liriano pitching at less than 100 percent, the Pirates could turn to Worley as a fifth starter down the stretch. Recent acquisition J.A. Happ flopped in his rotation debut last week and has had his next start skipped.
