Siegrist (5-1) took the loss Friday, allowing two walks and two hits on one run in a 5-4 loss to the Giants.
For those of you who thought you'd be picking up some sneaky saves this weekend with Siegrist, say goodbye to your WHIP. This was one of his worst outings of the season and he was set to take over closer duties while Trevor Rosenthal witnesses the birth of his child. Siegrist still holds a 1.84 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 64 appearances.

Siegrist pitched a scoreless eighth inning Monday against Arizona, allowing one hit while striking out two to bring his holds total to 23 for the year.
For leagues that count holds Siegrist has been a terrific fantasy asset, striking out 69 batters in 57.1 innings this year while posting a 1.73 ERA and 1.08 WHIP.

Siegrist picked up his fifth save of the season Friday, allowing a walk and a hit in a 4-2 win over the Braves. He also struck out two.
Siegrist had to make 25 pitches to escape a bit of a jam in relief of the rested Trevor Rosenthal. The nature of the Cardinals success has allowed the setup man to get five saves and because of that, he is ownable in standard mixed leagues due to his elite peripherals. He may be in line for a closer's role in the future, but for this season, he'll remain the setup man for the best team in baseball.

Siegrist picked up his fourth save of the year Sunday, throwing a perfect ninth inning in a 3-1 victory over the Padres.
With Trevor Rosenthal unavailable after pitching in each of the first three games of the series, Siegrist stepped in for his first save chance since June 18. He retired the side in order on 14 pitches, lowering his ERA to 1.45. While he will likely continue to see only sporadic save opportunities so long as Rosenthal is healthy, Siegrist has provided excellent ratios and he currently ranks fourth in the NL in holds with 14.

Siegrist recorded the save Tuesday with a scoreless ninth inning against the Twins.
Trevor Rosenthal (forearm) was unavailable for the second straight day Tuesday, and it's unclear if he'll be ready to return for Wednesday's matchup. Assuming the Cards don't want to rest Siegrist after he pitched on back-to-back days Monday and Tuesday, he's the leading candidate to take the ball for a save situation Wednesday if Rosenthal remains shut down.

Siegrist picked up his second save Monday against Minnesota with closer Trevor Rosenthal on the shelf due to arm tightness.
Siegrist struck out a batter and now has a 1.57 ERA and 40 strikeouts against just 10 walks in 28.2 innings. Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said the club just needed to "give [Rosenthal] a day," so the arrangement is likely temporary, but Siegrist looks like the first option to close if needed.

Siegrist struck out the side in a scoreless inning of relief Sunday against the Dodgers en route to earning his third win of the season.
The 25-year-old has been electric out of the bullpen for the Cardinals this season, with a 12.4 K/9 and a 1.82 ERA to go along with his perfect 3-0 record. Siegrist is unlikely to see many save opportunities with Trevor Rosenthal in the picture, but still offers appealing ratios and strikeout totals in relief.

Siegrist picked up his 10th hold of the season, getting two eighth inning outs in the win over Los Angeles Friday.
Siegrist has seemingly taken over as the Cardinals go-to eighth inning guy with Jordan Walden on the disabled list. He's posted a 1.90 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP with 31 strikeouts in 23.2 innings this season. He should keep racking up holds and the occasional save, giving him solid value in deeper leagues that count holds.

Siegrist struck out one and tossed a scoreless inning Wednesday, but he allowed an inherited runner to score while working the seventh inning in a loss to the Cubs.
He threw seven of his 10 pitches for strikes Wednesday. Having Siegrist healthy should provide a significant boost to the St. Louis bullpen this season after he was slowed by a forearm injury throughout 2014.

Siegrist has added a slide step to his delivery in an effort to hamper the success base-stealers have had against him in the past, MLB.com reports.
Siegrist believes his arm troubles are behind him and has been working hard on mastering his new delivery in an effort to lock up the Cardinals lefty setup role this spring. He could be a sneaky source of holds in 2015.

Siegrist (forearm) continues to feel good in the early stages of spring training for the Cardinals and is hoping to earn the lefty setup role, MLB.com reports.
Siegrist dealt with a forearm strain and nerve issues last season that caused him to miss significant time. If he can lock up a role as the Cardinals main left-handed setup man he could provide decent value in leagues that count holds.
Fri Feb 20 201516:36Siegrist (forearm) had light bullpen session Tuesday
Siegrist (forearm) had a light bullpen session Tuesday, Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post reports. "Everything feels healed up," said Siegrist. "It's been going great."
Siegrist had a fantastic rookie season in 2013 with 0.45 ERA, giving up only one home run in 45 appearances. Last season with his left forearm strain, Siegrist had a 6.82 ERA and gave up five home runs in 30.1 innings, and he felt his velocity was not the same. "I didn't really have the explosion at the end of my pitches," Siegrist said. "I could tell. I knew I wasn't getting through the ball the same way." He now feels prepared for the upcoming season. "As far as the ball goes, it feels good now coming out of my hand, really good," Siegrist said. He is competing for a bullpen spot.
Wed Dec 17 201410:02Siegrist (forearm) began throwing from 60 feet this week
Siegrist (forearm) began throwing from 60 feet this week, Jim Hayes of FOX Sports Midwest reports.
It's only a preliminary step in Siegrist's recovery from the late-season stiffness in his forearm and throwing hand, but it offers further encouragement that the lefty will be healthy for the start of 2015. Despite his lackluster production last season due in large part to the ongoing forearm issue, Siegrist is still viewed as a integral member of the Cardinals' late-inning mix.

The Cardinals have increasing confidence that Siegrist (forearm/hand) will be ready to handle a significant role in their bullpen again in 2015, the team's official site reports.
Even before he hit the disabled list in late May, Siegrist wasn't as dominant as he was upon arrival in 45 appearances with the Cards in 2013 (0.45 ERA, 0.88 WHIP). He struggled mightily upon returning in July, carrying a 13.06 ERA in 10.1 innings while opposing hitters posted a 1.089 OPS against him. If he's healthy when the season begins, Siegrist projects to have a valuable late-inning role for the Cards.

Siegrist underwent an MRI on Monday as well as several other exams to determine the cause of irritation and ongoing stiffness in his left hand and forearm, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Muscle tears in his hand and inflammation in his forearm were found, according to Siegrist, who attributed his lack of command in recent weeks to the issues. Siegrist handed out six free passes in just 2.1 September innings. He's been prescribed rest for now, but Siegrist said he plans to continue pitching on the side during the NLDS, in the hope that he'll be available later in the month should the team advance.
Thu Oct 2 201413:19Siegrist will not be on Cardinals' NLDS roster
Siegrist will not be on the Cardinals' NLDS roster, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
The lefty made nine appearances during the team's 2013 postseason run, including four in the World Series, but shoulder and forearm issues have limited his effectiveness this season. After missing two months in the middle of the year, Siegrist went on to allow 15 earned runs over his final 10.1 innings.

Siegrist was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Sunday.
Siegrist has allowed six runs over his last two appearances, as the 25-year-old owns a poor 6.11 ERA over his 2014 campaign. He'll iron it out in the minors, with a chance remaining that he returns to the roster in September. Carlos Martinez was recalled Sunday in a corresponding move, and will take on a similar bullpen role.
