Cleveland Indians All-Star reliever Andrew Miller has been activated from the disabled list, the team announced on Friday.Miller has been sidelined since Aug. 2 with right knee patellar tendinitis.The 32-year-old left-hander was dominant in his rehab start Wednesday with Triple-A Columbus, striking out two of the three batters he faced with 10 of his 12 pitches registered as strikes.Miller owns a 4-3 record with a 1.67 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 54 innings this season.He has issued 10 free passes in his last 19 games (22 2/3 innings), a total that eclipses the nine walks he had during the 2016 season (74 1/3 innings).

BOSTON -- Red Sox starter Drew Pomeranz left Friday night's game against the New York Yankees with back spasms, the team announced.Pomeranz, who is 6-0 in his previous 11 starts and a 12-game winner, left runners in scoring position in the first three innings. After Andrew Benintendi made a diving catch of Didi Gregorius' line drive to start the fourth, Pomeranz was pitching to Chase Headley and behind 2-0 when a meeting took place on the mound.Pomeranz, who was trying to beat the Yankees for a second straight time and was ahead 2-0, could be seen stretching. After throwing a few warmup pitches, Pomeranz was removed from the game.Brandon Workman came on and, after getting as much time as he needed to warm up, issued a walk to Headley.

The Kansas City Royals placed right-hander Joakim Soria on the 10-day disabled list, the team announced Friday.Soria is dealing with a strained left oblique muscle and has dealt with the issue for most of August."He's been battling with it for two weeks," Royals manager Ned Yost told reporters. "He's been pitching through it. He's been pitching very effectively through it."Soria is 4-3 with a 3.96 ERA this season. He has struck out 59 batters in 50 innings.The move is retroactive to Wednesday.Kansas City recalled right-hander Kevin McCarthy from Triple-A Omaha to fill the roster vacancy. McCarthy has made 19 appearances for the Royals this season and is 1-0 with a 1.88 ERA.

The St. Louis Cardinals placed right-hander Adam Wainwright on the 10-day disabled list with a right elbow impingement, the team announced Friday.Fellow right-hander Mike Mayers was recalled from Triple-A Memphis to take the roster spot of Wainwright, who leads the Cardinals with 12 wins.Wainwright owns a 12-5 mark with a 5.12 ERA in 23 starts this season. The 35-year-old has pitched just 11 innings over his last three starts since returning from the disabled list with mid-back tightness.Mayers has pitched four innings in two relief appearances with St. Louis, posting a 4.50 ERA. The 25-year-old notched a 5-6 mark with a 3.36 ERA in 25 appearances with Memphis.

The Cincinnati Reds activated right fielder Scott Schebler from the 10-day disabled list on Friday, the team announced.At the same time, the Reds placed right-hander Scott Feldman (knee) on the DL.Schebler, who has hit 23 homers, has been sidelined since July 30 with a shoulder injury. He is batting .228 with 45 RBIs. Feldman is on the disabled list for the second time due to his knee woes. He returned on Aug. 12 after missing nearly four weeks and gave up nine runs in 7 2/3 innings in two outings.Feldman was handed a 9-0 lead on Thursday and ended up with a no-decision as he served up five homers to the Chicago Cubs. The 34-year-old gave up six runs and seven hits over 3 2/3 innings.Feldman is 7-7 with a 4.77 ERA in 21 starts this season.

The Chicago Cubs placed left-hander Jon Lester on the 10-day disabled list Friday with left lat tightness and shoulder fatigue, but the injury is not expected to be season-ending.Lester was pulled in the second inning of Thursday afternoon's game against the Cincinnati Reds due to the injury and saw a team doctor after the game. He allowed nine runs (seven earned) in 1 2/3 innings as the Reds outlasted the Chicago Cubs 13-10."There's no minimum or maximum, just that it's a 10-day stay and then we'll figure it out," Cubs manager Joe Maddon told reporters Friday of Lester's return.Lester was replaced by left-hander Mike Montgomery in Thursday's game after facing 11 batters in the second inning and Cincinnati leading 8-0. Montgomery will take Lester's slot in the rotation.The 33-year-old Lester is 8-7 with a 4.37 ERA over 148 1/3 innings in 26 starts this season after helping the Cubs win the World Series last year. LHP Aroldis Chapman (hamstring) didn't pitch for a second straight game Thursday, when the Yankees beat the Mets, 7-5. Chapman, who was injured fielding the final out of the Yankees' 5-4 win over the Mets on Tuesday night, threw a bullpen session Thursday and should be ready to pitch again on Friday. The Yankees hope the couple days off help Chapman both physically and mentally after a three-game stretch, dating back to Aug. 11, in which he's recorded two saves and absorbed a blown save while giving up five runs on three hits and four walks over 3 1/3 innings. Chapman is 4-2 with a 3.89 ERA and 16 saves in 37 games this season.

2B Starlin Castro (right hamstring strain) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday night. Castro has been limited to just six games since June 26 due to a pair of hamstring injuries, the most recent of which he suffered July 21. He was placed on the disabled list two days later, retroactive to July 22. Castro will likely require several rehab games before the Yankees consider activating him. He is batting .307 with 12 homers and 45 RBIs in 79 games this season.

DH/1B Matt Holliday (left lumbar strain) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Class A Tampa on Friday night. Holliday was injured during a game on Aug. 4 and was placed on the 10-day disabled list Aug. 6, retroactive to Aug. 5. He may only need a handful of games before returning to the Yankees. Holliday is batting .229 with 16 homers and 51 RBIs in 88 games this season.

RHP Jameson Taillon gave up four runs and seven hits over five innings, with three walks and seven strikeouts, missing a shot at three straight quality starts. Two of the runs he allowed, along with two of the walks, came in the fifth when it was raining. "The weather looked like it was starting to get a little challenging to navigate," Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle said. "It seemed like the more he stayed out there in the rain, the more his execution seemed to tail off some." Even without the rain, Hurdle said he would have pulled Taillon following the fifth.

RHP Joaquin Benoit fell to 1-6. He gave up three runs on three hits and a walk in one-third of an inning, facing five batters. Manager Clint Hurdle said going to Benoit that inning and not pulling him for Daniel Hudson sooner was out of the question because George Kontos was not available.

2B Josh Harrison was 3-for-5. He hit his 13th homer, a two-run shot to left in the first. In the sixth, he left the bases loaded with a flyout to center. Harrison had been in a mini-slump, 8-for-39 in his previous 10 games.

C Francisco Cervelli was placed on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to Monday, because of left wrist inflammation. He left Sunday's game but indicated that the injury has been bothering him and heavily limiting his play for some time.

CF Andrew McCutchen was 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and a run scored. He had been 2-for-10 over his previous three games.

LF Tommy Pham was 2-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored. In the ninth he blasted his 15th homer, a 440-footer to left. He extended his hitting streak to nine games (11-for-31).

RHP Adam Wainwright lasted only three innings and is being sent back to St. Louis for evaluation. He dealt with elbow soreness in his previous start, which kept him from reaching 90 mph or striking out anyone. Wainwright again failed to hit 90 mph Thursday and didn't strike out a batter while allowing five runs on seven hits and a walk, but he extended his unbeaten streak to nine starts (5-0). "It's real disappointing because this time of year ... is usually when I go," Wainwright said. "In my whole career, this is when I've taken off and played some really good baseball. So, it's hard for me to look my guys in the face and tell them that I'm sorry and it wasn't as good as it needed to be."

3B Jedd Gyorko was 3-for-5 with two run scored. He hit his 16th homer, a two-out solo shot to left, in the first. He was coming off of a 1-for-6 showing in a two-game series against Boston.

LHP Enny Romero was sent on a rehab assignment to Triple-A Syracuse. He went on the disabled list Aug. 4. He has pitched in 45 games out of the bullpen and has a 3.99 ERA.

RHP Shawn Kelley was reinstated after a rehab assignment to fill the void left by RHP Ryan Madson going to the DL. Kelley missed 51 games with a right trapezius strain. Kelley made eight appearances with Triple-A Syracuse, going 1-1 with an 8.10 ERA.

RHP Ryan Madson was placed on the disabled list with a sore finger. Madson hadn't allowed a run since coming from the A's on July 16. "It turned out to be a little more than a blister," Nationals manager Dusty Baker said. "There was soreness in his index finger in his throwing hand. It's better that it happened now rather than later."
