RHP Akeel Morris was optioned back to Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday after eight relief appearances for the Braves in which he allowed six hits and a run over 7 1/3 innings. Morris struck out nine and walked four.

RHP Akeel Morris was called up from Triple-A Gwinnett before Thursday's game, as RHP Matt Wisler was sent back to Triple-A. Morris pitched in one game with the New York Mets in 2015 and came to the Braves in 2016.

Morris was called up Monday after performing well with High-A St. Lucie. He recorded 12 saves and a 1.74 ERA in 31 innings. Morris did not make an appearance for the Mets, but will have to work his way up the ranks to the Mets bullpen.

Morris will be called up from High-A St. Lucie on Monday, but his stay in the major leagues will likely only last a day or two, ESPN New York's Adam Rubin reports.

The Mets are looking for a temporary bullpen arm, and Morris has been excellent for High-A St. Lucie this season, recording 12 saves, a 1.74 ERA and 12.8 K/9 through 31 innings. The Mets hope the 22-year-old can eventually work his way into a late-inning role in the majors, but he still needs to gain experience and work on his control (4.1 BB/9). Morris figures to spend most of 2015 and 2016 working his way up the minor-league ladder.

Morris was sent by the Mets to their minor-league camp Thursday, ESPN New York reports.

Morris went 4-1 with a 0.63 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 57 innings over 41 relief appearances with Low-A Savannah last season. He likely will open 2015 at High-A St. Lucie.
