Fri Apr 2623:32J.P. Crawford Not Expected To Return When Eligible
There is no timetable yet on Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (oblique), but general manager Justin Hollander said the team doesn't anticipate him being ready by the time he's eligible to be activated from the injured list. In a best-case scenario, it sounds like Crawford will be out at least two to three weeks with a Grade 1 right-oblique strain. The Mariners aren't going to rush the 29-year-old shortstop back with an injury that isn't easy to come back from, even if it's the least-severe variety. It's been a rough year so far for Crawford, as he's hit just .198 (17-for-86) with two home runs, nine RBI and 13 runs scored in his first 22 games. Until he's able to return, Dylan Moore should see most of the playing time at the 6 and will have elevated short-term fantasy value in deeper leagues.

Thu Apr 2513:23J.P. Crawford Heading To The Injured List
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (oblique) said he was diagnosed with a Grade 1 right-oblique strain after undergoing an MRI exam and was placed on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to April 24) on Thursday. In corresponding moves, infielder Leo Rivas' contract was selected from Triple-A Tacoma and right-hander Gregory Santos (lat) was moved to the 60-day injured list. Crawford was scratched from Wednesday's lineup and will now miss at least the next 10 days. The 29-year-old's strain isn't very serious, but it could easily keep him out beyond 10 days. Dylan Moore is making his second straight start at the 6 on Thursday in place of Crawford and is likely to see most of the playing time there as long as Crawford is out. Crawford has had a rough start to 2024, hitting under .200 with two home runs and nine RBI in 22 games.

Wed Apr 2422:03J.P. Crawford Dealing With Oblique Soreness
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (oblique) was scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the division-rival Texas Rangers in Arlington due to soreness in his right oblique. There's no word from the M's on the severity of the injury, but it might be fair to expect Crawford to get another day off during the series finale on Thursday. The 29-year-old on-base machine's fantasy value has been more noticeable in leagues that count walks, as evidenced by his .198/.296/.302 triple-slash line with two home runs, nine RBI, and 13 runs scored over 98 plate appearances (22 games) during the 2024 regular season. Super-utility player Dylan Moore drew the start at short in Crawford's stead on Wednesday, and he can steal bases in bunches when given playing time. In fact, Moore already has four swipes across 15 games and is worth a speculative add for those in need of speed.

Wed Apr 1714:30J.P. Crawford Getting A Breather Wednesday
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford is not in the starting lineup Wednesday versus the Cincinnati Reds and left-hander Andrew Abbott. Crawford enjoyed a nice night at the plate on Tuesday, going 2-for-5 with a run scored in a 3-1 win but will take a seat to begin the lefty-on-lefty matchup on Wednesday. Despite the solid night on Tuesday, it's been a tough start to the season for Crawford who is hitting just .171 with a pair of homers and a .523 OPS across his first 79 plate appearances. Interestingly, he is 6-for-20 (.300) against left-handed pitching but is hitting only .100 (6-for-50) against righties.

Fri Mar 809:09J.P. Crawford Draws A Pair Of Walks
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford drew a pair of walks and scored a run in two plate appearances in Thursdays Cactus League contest versus the Los Angeles Angels. He is now hitless with three walks over his first nine at-bats this spring. Crawford is coming off his best season by far in his seven-year career with career highs in homers with 19 and RBI with 65 to go along with a .266 batting average. The 29-year-old has always been a star defensively, but last year could be an indication that he is a late-bloomer offensively. Managers should still have their reservations as Crawford's history as indicated last year could have been a fluke. Regardless, he deserves to be considered in deeper leagues with last year's performance, but there may be more exciting players to consider at his ADP of 239.

Sat Sep 30 202301:40J.P. Crawford Delivers A Grand Slam In Win Over Texas
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford went 1-for-4 with a grand slam, two runs scored, a walk, and two strikeouts in an 8-0 shutout win over the Texas Rangers on Friday night. Crawford played the hero on Thursday night, delivering a walk-off single to prevent the Rangers from clinching a playoff spot. He wasn't done yet, however, as he roped a grand slam into right field on Friday off of reliever Brock Burke to give Seattle an 8-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth. Neither team would score for the rest of the game and Texas pulled a handful of their star players as they'll try to regroup and clinch a postseason berth on Saturday. As for Crawford, he's put together the best season of his career so far, slashing .266/.381/.440 with 19 home runs, 65 RBI, and two stolen bases over 527 at-bats. The on-base percentage, slugging percentage, home runs, and RBI are all career-bests for the 28-year-old shortstop.

Mon Aug 21 202315:59Mariners Reinstate J.P. Crawford From Injured List
The Seattle Mariners reinstated shortstop J.P. Crawford (concussion) from the seven-day concussion injured list on Monday and optioned infielder/outfielder Sam Haggerty to Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move. Crawford should be right back in the team's starting lineup on Monday against the Chicago White Sox and right-hander Touki Toussaint after he went hitless on Saturday in his only minor-league rehab game. Fantasy managers will be hoping that the 28-year-old can pick up where he left off since the All-Star break, as he's gone 27-for-88 (.307) with two home runs, eight doubles, five RBI and 16 runs scored in 24 starts since July 14.

Mon Aug 21 202312:23J.P. Crawford Could Be Back Monday
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (concussion) went 0-for-3 in his lone minor-league rehab game with High-A Everett on Saturday, and he could be activated from the injured list on Monday for the start of a series against the Chicago White Sox on the road, according to manager Scott Servais. Crawford collided with third baseman Eugenio Suarez on a ground ball on Aug. 9 and was put on the seven-day concussion injured list on Aug. 11. "He came out of it feeling good," Servais said of Crawford's rehab game. "He'll be in Chicago with us Monday. We will see how he feels when he gets up there. Everything was thumbs up there. He was feeling good. The fogginess or whatever he had from the concussion seems to have gone away. Hopefully, we will get him in the lineup Monday."

Sun Aug 20 202310:17J.P. Crawford Starts Rehab Assignment Saturday
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (concussion) cleared concussion protocol and began a rehab assignment on Saturday. The 28-year-old appears to be not far off from being activated off the 7-day concussion injured list. Crawford went on the IL on Aug. 11 following an infield collision with teammate Eugenio Suarez on defense. Fantasy managers should expect Crawford back in the lineup during the coming days, but he is not as valuable in leagues that don't weigh walks. The on-base machine is slashing .266/.379/.411 with 10 home runs, 38 RBI, and 63 runs scored in 460 plate appearances.

Thu Aug 17 202315:17J.P. Crawford Could Return Sunday
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (concussion) "continues to improve" and could play in a minor-league rehab game this weekend with High-A Everett, according to general manager Jerry Dipoto. If that goes well for Crawford, he could rejoin the Mariners as early as Sunday at the Houston Astros or early next week in Chicago. The 28-year-old shortstop landed on the seven-day concussion injured list last Friday after bumping heads with third baseman Eugenio Suarez while trying to field a ground ball earlier in the week. Until he returns, Jose Caballero and Dylan Moore will likely continue sharing playing time at the 6 in Seattle. Crawford doesn't stand out at the position in fantasy without much power or speed, but he's having a fine 2023 campaign, slashing .266/.379/.411 with 38 RBI and 63 runs scored in 384 at-bats.

Tue Aug 15 202320:44J.P. Crawford Trending In The Right Direction
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (concussion) is trending in a positive direction, but it's still unclear if he'll rejoin the team when he's eligible to be activated from the seven-day concussion injured list on Thursday, according to manager Scott Servais. Unless Crawford suffers a setback in the next few days, he should at least return at some point this weekend against the Houston Astros on the road. The 28-year-old landed on the injured list after bumping heads with his own teammate while trying to field a ground ball last week against the San Diego Padres. While the counting stats aren't amazing, Crawford is having a fine season for Seattle in 2023. He's hitting .266/.379/.411 with 10 home runs, 38 RBI and 63 runs scored in 107 games. Crawford's 10 home runs are already a career-high.

Fri Aug 11 202318:30J.P. Crawford Placed On 7-Day Concussion List
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (head) has been placed on the 7-day concussion injured list ahead of Friday's game. Crawford was pulled out of Wednesday's game after colliding with teammate Eugenio Suarez. This is a shame considering Crawford is playing extremely well right now. He's slashing .266/.379.411 with 10 home runs and 38 RBI in 106 games. The hope is that Crawford will have a minimal stint on the injured list. In a corresponding move, infielder Sam Haggerty has been recalled from Triple-A to take the spot on the active roster.

Thu Aug 10 202308:21J.P. Crawford Evaluated For Concussion Symptoms
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (head) left Wednesday's 6-1 win over the San Diego Padres after colliding with Eugenio Suarez on the field. The club is checking him for concussion symptoms, according to Daniel Kramer of MLB.com, and they likely won't know his status until Thursday. Crawford is having a career season at the dish, slashing .266/.379/.411 with 10 bombs, 63 runs, 38 RBI, and one stolen base. Fantasy managers should consider the 28-year-old day-to-day and check back in for more updates, especially those in leagues that count on-base percentage.

Wed Jul 26 202312:06J.P. Crawford Sitting Out Against Twins
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (knee) had a planned day of rest coming on Wednesday against the Minnesota Twins before he was hit in the knee by a pitch on Tuesday night. With Crawford resting, Dylan Moore will get the nod at shortstop and bat eighth against Twins right-hander Joe Ryan. It remains to be seen if Crawford's knee injury is something that will keep him out beyond Wednesday, but the good news is he'll have an extra day to heal up with a scheduled off day coming on Thursday before the series opener on Friday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. For now, consider the 28-year-old to be day-to-day. Crawford has been hot this month, hitting .333 (27-for-81) with two homers, nine doubles, seven RBI and 11 runs scored in 21 games played.

Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (shoulder) is back in the lineup on Saturday against the Baltimore Orioles. Fri Jun 23 202318:49J.P. Crawford Remains Out On Friday
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (shoulder) remains out of the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. This marks the third game in a row that Crawford has missed after suffering a shoulder injury during Tuesday's game. The team hasn't placed him on the injured list as he was expected to return here. However, it doesn't sound like he's quite ready to play yet. In the meantime, Jose Caballero is at shortstop and batting ninth versus right-hander Kyle Gibson. Fantasy managers will have to check back for another update on Crawford.

Thu Jun 22 202316:50J.P. Crawford Out On Thursday
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (shoulder) is not in the team's starting lineup on Thursday as they face the New York Yankees in the Bronx. Crawford injured his shoulder on Tuesday and left the game early. He hasn't played since, but the injury is considered to be minor and he's hoping to be back in the lineup at some point this weekend against the Baltimore Orioles. He's really struggled this month -- .196 average, one homer, two RBI, 10 K's in 14 games -- and is hitting only .239 (57-for-238) with four home runs and one stolen base on the season as a whole. Jose Caballero will start at shortstop for the M's on Thursday and bat eighth in the lineup against Yankees right-hander Domingo German.

Wed Jun 21 202315:59J.P. Crawford Out Of The Lineup Wednesday
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (shoulder) is not in the team's starting lineup on Wednesday against the New York Yankees. It's not a surprise after he was forced from Tuesday's game early due to a right-shoulder contusion. However, the good news is the 28-year-old's X-rays came back negative, so he's considered day-to-day and could return for the series finale against the Yankees on Thursday. Jose Caballero is starting at shortstop and will hit leadoff on Wednesday against Yankees right-hander Jhony Brito. Crawford hasn't offered much for fantasy managers so far in 2023, hitting just .239 (57-for-238) with four home runs, 14 doubles, 24 RBI, one stolen base and 39 runs scored in 68 games (279 plate appearances).

Tue Jun 20 202321:29J.P. Crawford Exits Tuesday's Game
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (shoulder) left Tuesday's game against the New York Yankees prematurely after suffering a right-shoulder contusion, according to Daniel Kramer of MLB.com. Before the injury, he was 0-for-2, bringing his season slash line to .239/.349/.349, while he also has four home runs and one steal across 68 games. If Crawford is forced to miss time, fantasy managers can expect to see more of Dylan Moore. The speedy 30-year-old has no hits yet this year over five games and is just a career .206 hitter. However, Moore has surpassed 20 steals in the past two seasons, so fantasy managers who are looking for steals and can take on his average might want to consider picking him up from the waiver wire. Stay tuned for more news.

Sun Jun 4 202312:36J.P. Crawford Out With Knee Injury
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (knee) is not in the starting lineup on Sunday against the division-rival Texas Rangers. Crawford will take a day to rest after injuring his knee late in the loss to the Rangers on Saturday night, but the team doesn't think it's a very serious injury. And with an off day coming on Monday, there's a good chance that the 28-year-old will be able to return to action on Tuesday to face the San Diego Padres on the road. Crawford has gone hitless in his last two games and has gone 8-for-34 (.235) in his last eight games with a double, home run and two RBI in 36 plate appearances. On Sunday for the M's, Jose Caballero will handle shortstop duties and hit in the eight-hole for Seattle against Rangers right-hander Nathan Eovaldi.
