MIAMI -- The Miami Marlins, who were being no-hit and shut out for 7 1/3 innings by Max Scherzer, rallied to defeat the Washington Nationals 2-1 on Wednesday.Scherzer (8-5) had his attempt at a third career no-hitter broken up by backup catcher A.J. Ellis, who hit a comebacker for an infield single with one out in the eighth inning.Ellis, who is hitting just .204, didn't hit the ball particularly hard, but the ball bounced off Scherzer's glove, and shortstop Trea Turner couldn't make the play in time.Pinch hitter J.T. Realmuto reached on a two-out fielding error credited to first baseman Adam Lind, who could not come up with Turner's low throw. Dee Gordon was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Miami got on the board on a high wild pitch by Scherzer. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Erasmo Ramirez dominated early and Tampa Bay's bats broke open a close game, getting four runs in the sixth on the way to a win over Cincinnati.The Rays won two of three from Cincinnati, and Ramirez (4-2) took a no-hitter into the fifth inning. Up only 3-2 in the sixth, the Rays got two-out RBI singles from Corey Dickerson and Steven Souza and a two-run double by Logan Morrison off reliever Wandy Peralta. Peralta and Austin Brice each recorded only one out while giving up two runs and three hits apiece.The Reds have dropped 11 of their last 12 road games and still have four more ahead before they return home. The Rays have won nine of their last 12 at home with three more ahead this weekend.
