BOSTON (AP) — New York Yankees designated hitter Tyler Austin rushed the mound after being hit by a pitch from Boston Red Sox reliever Joe Kelly, and both players began punching away in a bench-clearing brawl Wednesday night at Fenway Park. The bitter rivals tangled in the seventh inning, adding another chapter to a long history that has included some memorable brawls. The benches cleared briefly in the third after Austin's spikes clipped Brock Holt's leg on a slide into second base. Holt took issue with the contact and they exchanged words before being separated. Then with the Yankees leading 10-6, Kelly nearly hit Austin and then caught him on the side with a 2-1 pitch clocked at 98 mph. Austin slammed his bat on the plate, threw it down and took four steps toward the mound while hollering. Kelly waved Austin at him, and things quickly escalated. The scuffle spilled across the field before it broke up in front of the Boston dugout on the first base side, with Yankees sluggers Aaron Judge... The bullpen was hit hard by the Dodgers in the NLCS, and the Cubs batted just .168 in 10 postseason games. The roster returns mostly intact, but the bullpen and coaching staff each has a new look. Tue Jun 20 201703:42RHP Bronson Arroyo placed on 10-day disabled list
RHP Bronson Arroyo was placed on the 10-day disabled list. The move comes one day after the 40-year-old Arroyo told reporters that there is a possibility his 14-year major league career might be over as he deals with a strained right shoulder. "We tried to patch it up and it worked for a while, but I've been hit around the yard for a while now," Arroyo said after allowing five runs and seven hits in three innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers. "It gets stiff. The cortisone isn't working anymore. Have I thought, 'This time might be my last time on the field?' Yeah."

RHP Bronson Arroyo's 14-year major-league career could be coming to an end. After Sunday's start against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Arroyo admitted he's been experiencing shoulder soreness and getting cortisone shots to mask the pain. Arroyo came back after missing more than two seasons following elbow and shoulder surgeries. On Sunday, he lasted only three innings, with five earned runs on seven hits with no walks and three strikeouts. "We tried to patch it up and it worked for a while, but I've been hit around the yard for a while now," Arroyo said. "It gets stiff. The cortisone isn't working anymore. Have I thought, 'This time might be my last time on the field?' Yeah." Arroyo is 3-6 with a 7.35 ERA. He planned to discuss his future with manager Bryan Price by Monday. "It's a combination of things," Price said. "His velocity is down again. ... I'll talk with Bronson and see how he's doing. It's not just a challenge with his stuff. It's a physical challenge."

RHP Bronson Arroyo, who entered the game with a 6.25 ERA in 12 starts, gave up nine runs on a career-worse-equaling 13 hits in 4 2/3 innings to raise his ERA to 7.15. Padres batters were 13-for-25 against Arroyo Monday with four doubles, a triple and two homers. That's 25 total bases in 25 at-bats. It's hard to say what to expect," said Reds manager Bryan Price.

RHP Bronson Arroyo said he feels better physically than he has all season. "That's what's funny about this game," he said following Sunday's game in which he allowed four solo home runs, including one by Rockies starting pitcher Kyle Freeland on a 71 mph slider. He gave up six earned runs on nine hits in 5 1/3 innings. "I think it came down the location of the pitches," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "Even though you're aware of the speed, when his breaking ball has teeth, it's a tough pitch to hit. When you hang them, they tend to be exploited. Today, he wasn't quite as acute with his offspeed pitches."
