RHP Edward Mujica was designated for assignment by Detroit on Sunday to make room for RHP Jeff Ferrell. Mujica gave up three runs on four hits in 1 1/3 inning Saturday night. He appeared in five games for the Tigers with a 9.95 ERA in 6 1/3 innings.

RHP Edward Mujica had his contract selected from Triple-A Toledo on Thursday after RHP Michael Fulmer (right elbow ulnar neuritis) was placed on the 10-day DL. Mujica has been dominant out of the bullpen for the Mud Hens, posting a 2.35 ERA with 38 strikeouts, five walks and 12 saves over 46 innings.
Thu Aug 3 201722:49Tigers RHP Fulmer placed on DL
BALTIMORE -- Detroit Tigers right-hander Michael Fulmer, the American League Rookie of the Year in 2016, was placed on the 10-day disabled list with right elbow ulnar neuritis, or inflammation, on Thursday. There is no set timeline for Fulmer's return, but there is no ligament damage, according to manager Brad Ausmus."He has some inflammation around the ulnar nerve. Some fluid around it that is putting pressure around it," Ausmus said. "It has been something he has dealt with in almost every start where pinkie and ring finger on his throwing hand get a little tingly."Last start, it kind of went into the middle finger, which he hadn't really experienced. So we got an MRI and saw the fluid and we're going to place him on the DL."Fulmer is 10-9 with a 3.59 ERA in 21 starts. He hopes to be back in the rotation in the short term."Honestly best-case scenario in my eyes," Fulmer said. "I had the MRI and all the tendons and ligaments came back clean. That's more of the concern."The Tigers have not decided which pitcher will take in Fulmer's spot Saturday against Baltimore. In a corresponding move, Detroit selected the contract Edward Mujica from Triple-A Toledo.

RHP Edward Mujica, who was in camp as a non-roster player, was released by the Phillies on Tuesday. Mujica, 31, had a 2.16 ERA this spring. He went a combined 3-5 with one save and a 4.75 ERA in 49 appearances for Boston and Oakland last year.

RHP Edward Mujica will be in a camp as a non-roster player but has a good chance of making the Opening Day bullpen and could even wind up as the closer. The Phillies signed RHP David Hernandez as a free agent in the offseason, and he enters camp as the presumptive closer despite having just 19 saves in six seasons. Mujica has 50 saves in his 10-year career, including 37 for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2013. Mujica, 31, had a rough 2015, as he was a combined 3-5 with one save and a 4.75 ERA in 49 games with the Boston Red Sox and Oakland Athletics.

Mujica (leg) tossed a scoreless inning in Sunday's loss to the Giants.
Mujica had not pitched in two weeks prior to Sunday's game, but he was able to get back on the mound after recovering from his leg injury. He figures to pitch in middle relief the rest of the way.

Mujica (leg) threw off a mound Wednesday and could pitch again this season, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.
Mujica has been out since Sept. 14 with a mysterious leg injury, however manager Bob Melvin believes the 31-year-old could pitch again for the A's this season. If he returns, it's unlikely he will pitch in any high-leverage situations, however it's still a positive sign for Mujica considering he was supposed to be out for a considerable amount of time.

Mujica (leg) will be out "a while," reports Jane Lee of MLB.com.
Obviously that's a rather vague assessment, but it looks as though Mujica will be held out of baseball activity for the next several days. With the A's well out of contention in the AL, they don't have much of an incentive to rush him back with only a few weeks remaining in the season.

Mujica was removed in the fifth inning of Sunday's game with an apparent leg injury, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.
Mujica recorded one out in the inning before exiting, and was replaced by Arnold Leon. The severity of the issue remains unclear, but the team should provide an update at some point.

Mujica imploded on Sunday, blowing a save by allowing a three-run bomb by Colby Rasmus.
Mujica faced three batters and allowed three runs and was then yanked from the game. Any leash Mujica had with the A's closer job is now likely gone and the A's will continue to search for an answer at closer. Manager Bob Melvin indicated after the game that "we'll see" when asked about Mujica staying closer. With Sean Doolittle on a rehab assignment, Mujica's days as closer are almost certainly coming to an end.

Mujica worked a clean ninth inning Saturday to pick up his first save of the season.
Drew Pomeranz started the inning with a walk before being replaced by Mujica, and while the veteran balked Jake Marisnick over to second base he didn't let him advance any further. The A's seem committed to using Mujica as their closer for the rest of the year, or at least until Sean Doolittle is healthy enough to provide competition, but he's a decidedly low-end option for saves.

Mujica (2-3) took the loss Friday, allowing a run on two hits over an inning in a 2-1 loss to the Indians. He also struck out three.
In his first game since supposedly taking over the closer's role, Mujica really struggled. This may hamper his role as the closer and it remains to be seen who gets the opportunity when the time comes. A player with a 4.30 ERA doesn't look like the best candidate for the job, but there's no one in the A's bullpen who has staggering numbers and it appears Mujica is the man for the job.
Tue Jul 28 201520:11Mujica will step into closer role for A's
Mujica will step into the closer role for the A's, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.
This was widely assumed following Tyler Clippard's departure to New York, but manager Bob Melvin confirmed Tuesday that Mujica will take over the closer role, at least for now. Sean Doolittle (shoulder) is still a ways off -- he's slated to throw his first bullpen session Thursday -- but he could supplant Mujica in the ninth inning once healthy.

Mujica or Eric O'Flaherty will likely close for Oakland with Tyler Clippard traded to the Mets, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Whoever takes over the closer role may not last long as Sean Doolittle could return from the DL in mid-August. The A's didn't official announce a new closer, so the job is very much in flux. Mujica could get the first crack at the job given his experience as a closer (49 career saves).

In his first appearance off the DL, Mujica took the loss, allowing three runs (only one earned) in 0.1 innings.
Mujica entered the game with the bases loaded and a four run lead and proceeded to give up a laser to Mike Trout that was dropped by Ben Zobrist followed by a grand slam to Albert Pujols. It was a tough spot for Mujica to be dropped into in his return from the DL, but he definitely did not fool either of the future Hall of Famers.

Mujica (hand) was reinstated from the DL on Friday.
He missed about a month after fracturing his thumb and should be available for this weekend's series against the Angels. Look for him to resume pitching in mid-leverage situations for the A's going forward.

Mujica (hand) will make another rehab appearance Thursday at High-A Stockton, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Mujica is slated to make at least one more rehab appearance before being activated from the disabled list, but it's no sure thing that Thursday will be his final outing at Stockton. His status should become more clear after Thursday's outing.
