Alvarez went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Baltimore's win over Kansas City on Friday night.

It was the first home run in the major leagues for the Cuban outfielder who hit .275 with 16 home runs for Triple-A Norfolk before being called up at the end of August. He has proven to be a solid outfielder with a strong arm, and could continue to see action, particularly against southpaws, as he auditions for a spot on the Orioles roster next year.

Alvarez was recalled from High-A Frederick.

Visa issues prevented Alvarez from joining the team in Toronto, but he'll now return to the active roster as the Jays continue a series in New York against the Yankees. Alvarez, who spent the bulk of the year at Triple-A, has logged only 12 major league at bats in 2015.

Alvarez is expected to rejoin the Orioles on Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com reports.

Problems with his visa ultimately forced the Orioles to option Alvarez to High-A Frederick on Wednesday, although he was never expected to stay in the minors for long. He's recorded three hits in 12 at-bats with Baltimore this season.

The Orioles optioned Alvarez to High-A Frederick following Wednesday's game, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

Visa issues will prevent Alvarez from traveling with the Orioles to and from Toronto, so the Orioles had to remove him from the major league roster for the time being. Alvarez is expected to be called up again next week.

Alvarez is in the lineup Tuesday and will bat eighth against Drew Smyly and the Rays.

After starting all three games this weekend, Alvarez was out of the lineup Monday. He'll draw back in Tuesday, playing in right field as the Orioles look to use a right-handed heavy lineup against the Rays' southpaw starter.

Alvarez is not in Baltimore's lineup Monday after starting three games in a row over the weekend, MASN Sports reports.

Alvarez went 3-for-9 with a double, a walk and three strikeouts in his three games. The Orioles are likely to give him part time at-bats for the remainder of the season.

Alvarez had his contract selected from Triple-A Norfolk on Friday.

Alvarez had been having a solid year at the Triple-A level, slashing .275/.305/.424 with 16 homers in 130 games. He'll now get his first chance at big league action and will likely serve as an extra outfield option for the parent club.

Alvarez is hitting .271/.297/.423 with 14 home runs, 22 doubles and five steals in 110 games at Triple-A through Thursday.

Alvarez does not have numbers that jump off the page, but he is also a good fielder with an outstanding arm. The Orioles were rumored to be considering a call up for Alvarez before acquiring Gerardo Parra at the trade deadline. Alvarez could get some playing time in September, but if the Orioles are still competing at that time it will be 2016 before Alvarez gets a shot at a position with the big league club.

Alvarez was reassigned to minor league camp after Sunday's game, MASN Sports reports.

Alvarez went 2-for-4 with a home run Sunday to finish spring training with slashes of .343/.395/.600 in 35 at-bats with just three strikeouts. The Orioles have difficult decisions to make in the outfield before finalizing the roster and Alvarez is forced to sit in a logjam with those players. However, there is a very good chance he gets an opportunity to play at the MLB this season, with a September call up being the most conservative estimate on his timeframe.
