LHP Adam Loewen was designated for assignment Monday after pitching in three of the past five games and five of the past nine. He gave up five runs in one-third of an inning a 16-2 loss at Boston on Sunday, giving up three hits, including Red Sox CF Mookie Betts' third homer of the game in the fifth inning. "It's unfortunate, because we really like what Adam brings to our bullpen," manager Chip Hale said. Loewen was 1-0 with a 15.00 ERA in eight appearances since his contract was purchased from Triple-A Reno on July 30. "Hopefully we can re-sign him," Hale said.

Loewen was outrighted off the Phillies' 40-man roster Wednesday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Loewen (1-0) got one out in the form of a fifth-inning strikeout to pick up the victory in a 4-3 win over the Mets on Tuesday.
The 31-year old was the beneficiary of an easy win Tuesday, as he happened to be on the mound to close out the fifth inning. Loewen has provided some uneven performances out of the Phillies bullpen, but has settled down some in September. The hard-throwing southpaw has lowered his still-inflated ERA during the month from 9.00 to 7.79, with scoreless appearances in six out of his last eight outings.
Thu Aug 6 201517:44Loewen had contract selected by Phillies on Thursday
Loewen had his contract selected by the Phillies on Thursday.
Loewen has the rare ability to play both in the field and pitch, but has spent 2015 exclusively as a pitcher in the minors. He's done well for himself as well, posting a 2.01 ERA with 73 strikeouts over 58.1 innings between Double-A and Triple-A. The 31-year-old will finally receive another chance to showcase his abilities, with his last chance coming at the age of 24 with the Orioles.

Loewen credits a mechanical alteration with adding 2 mph to his fastball, which now tops out at 95 mph, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Loewen made the change earlier this season after struggling with his command and getting demoted to Double-A. He returned to Triple-A in June where all but one of his 17 appearances have been scoreless. He has a 1.69 ERA and a 35:7 K:BB ratio in 21.1 innings over that 17 game stretch. The Phillies will likely give the former first-round pick a look in their pen at some point this season.

Sat Jan 12 201319:56Jays sign Adam Loewen to minor league deal
Blue Jays signed OF Adam Loewen to a minor league contract.
It's not yet clear whether the deal includes an invitation to spring training. Loewen, a pitcher-turned-outfielder, hit just .231/.333/.389 at two different minor league levels for the Mets in 2012. He'll probably wind up serving as organizational depth for the Blue Jays.

Tue Mar 27 201219:51Loewen expected to go to minor league camp
Andy Martino of the New York Daily News was told by a team source that there's a "99.9 percent" chance that Adam Loewen will soon be sent to minor league camp.
In turn, Mike Baxter is now expected to make the Opening Day roster. Loewen is batting .268 (11-for-41) with a homer and six walks this spring, so he hasn't played all that badly, but he has also struck out 20 times.

Thu Mar 8 201216:42Adam Loewen homers for Mets
Adam Loewen hit his first spring homer Thursday in the loss to the Marlins.
Loewen's homer off Chad Gaudin was wind-aided, but he actually had another blast that was held up by the wind and would have been a second homer otherwise. He's 3-for-8 this spring, and there's a pretty good chance he'll make the Mets if Scott Hairston lands on the disabled list.

Wed Mar 7 201209:30Loewen and Rottino could make Mets' roster
Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com writes that both Adam Loewen and Vinny Rottino could make the Opening Day roster if Scott Hairston (oblique) begins the season on the disabled list.
Loewen would function as a left-handed bat off the bench and backup center fielder while Rottino would replace Hairston as a righty bench bat. The Mets would prefer prospect outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis to play every day, so he's likely headed to the minors with the Mets' starting outfield already locked in. It's also possible that the Mets could see which players are cut from other teams as spring training moves along.

Tue Nov 22 201111:37Mets sign Adam Loewen to minors contract
Mets signed OF Adam Loewen to a minor league contract.
Lowen, a converted pitcher, hit 17 homers alongside a .306/.377/.508 batting line this year at Triple-A Las Vegas. But he struggled in 32 at-bats in the majors after gaining a September promotion and is unlikely to have an impact for the Metropolitans in 2012.

Blue Jays sent OF Adam Loewen outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Wed Sep 28 201118:08Jays win thanks to walks
Adam Loewen drew the second of back-to-back bases loaded walks in the top of the ninth as the Blue Jays beat the White Sox 3-2 on Wednesday.
Now there's a way to end the season. Mark Teahen had the first walk off Chris Sale, tying the game. Sale remained in afterwards and issued the walk to Loewen, giving him the loss as well as the blown save. It was Loewen's lone plate appearance of the game. He went 6-for-32 with a homer and a 13/3 K/BB ratio in his September audition. The Jays will have a decision to make on whether to keep him on the 40-man roster this winter. The fact that he's out of options next spring will work against him.

Wed Sep 14 201116:40Adam Loewen knocks in two runs
Getting the start in center, Adam Loewen went 2-for-4 with two RBI against the Red Sox on Wednesday.
Unfortunately, he also made two bad outs on the basepaths, once getting picked off and another when he was too aggressive trying to take third. He also committed an error in center. What he did with the bat today, he largely gave right back.

Sun Sep 11 201116:17Adam Loewen goes deep
Adam Loewen belted his first career homer and also added a single in Sunday's win over the Orioles.
Loewen surrendered 14 homers in his career as a pitcher and now has added his first one as a position player, even putting a cherry on top by doing it against his former team. It's a good story, but he's not going to be a fantasy option.
